Master of new noir Dennis Lehane magnificently evokes the dignity and savagery of working-class Boston in Darkness, Take My Hand, a terrifying tale of redemption.Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro’s latest client is a prominent Boston psychiatrist, running scared from a vengeful Irish mob. The private investigators know about cold-blooded retribution. Born and bred on the mean streets of … streets of blue-collar Dorchester, they’ve seen the darkness that lives in the hearts of the unfortunate.
But an evil for which even they are unprepared is about to strike, as secrets that have long lain dormant erupt, setting off a chain of violent murders that will stain everything – including the truth.
With razor-sharp dialogue and penetrating prose, Darkness, Take My Hand is another superior crime novel from the author of Mystic River; Gone, Baby, Gone; and Shutter Island.

While all the Kenzie/Gennaro novels are great — especially GONE, BABY, GONE, of course — DARKNESS, TAKE MY HAND is my all-time favorite. Highly recommended.
This whole series is one of my favorites. Lehane is a master storyteller with some of the best characters, most twisted plots, and creates some of the most lived-in worlds I’ve seen in thrillers.
I am a fan of Dennis LeHane so when I read one of his books, I enjoy it very much. This was not his best, but I did enjoy it very much
This is book 2 in the Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro series, the first being A DRINK BEFORE THE WAR.
DARKNESS, TAKE MY HAND is certainly dark, a gripping and gruesome tale of serial killers whose history with Kenzie dates back to his childhood. The characters of Kenzie and Gennaro are further developed as is their complex relationship with each …
Another great LeHane book
It has probably been 10 years, or more, since I read the Patrick Kenzie/Angie Ginaro series, and every one was a five-star novel. Mystic River was a stand alone, but I read it and was impressed with the literary style of Dennis Lehane. As is expected, the book considerably better than he movie. Lehane is one of my favorite writers.
Well-written and solid. The reader is in excellent hands.
Another great detective novel. The Kenzie-Gennaro series is awesome. Lehane is a master of this genre.
The second installment in the Kenzie and Gennaro series is extremely dark but such a compelling story that it’s one of my absolute favorite books ever. Unlike the first book, this one is much more personal to the characters and veers from the social commentary of its predecessor to focus more on the themes of love and loss, in all their …
So many characters the story can be difficult to follow if not read mostly at once.
