Coy, an Angel/Fallen hybrid, and her gang find themselves on Terminus, where demons lurk in the shadows, and the most terrifying Fallen rules. Despite the danger, leaving isn’t an option. Terminus has the means to heal her adoptive father, and she’ll do anything to save his life … and Killian will do anything to protect her. Even use the Flaming Sword of Uriel to shatter the gate to Heaven and … and lead the Fallen into a battle they’ll win.
An act that will destroy everything.
Torn between destiny and love, Coy and Killian must unravel the truth behind the prophecy before fate forces them to make a choice. Either join the darkness or fight against Lucifer’s most vicious demons. The apocalypse rests their hands, and the hardest question lies in their hearts. At the end, will they stand with or against each other?

I really enjoyed reading Tarnished Light, the first book in The Disgraced Series. This one is even better! I’ve gotten to know the world and the characters by now, and there’s a couple of twist and turns I didn’t see coming in this book. Coy and Killian are partly on different sides, but they keep getting drawn to each other. I like that we get both Coys and Killians POV’s.
A lot is happening in Darkness Shines, and all you can do is buckle up and enjoy the ride! If there is one thing I might ”complain” about, it’s the atmosphere on Terminus. Since it is the home of Phiams I find it a bit too cheerful and happy. Later it becomes darker but I had some trouble with the image at first. The author also has been cruel enough to end the book with somewhat of a cliffhanger… Now I can’t wait to read the next book! Gah!
Love, love, love this book!!!
OMG what a great book, Coy and Killian are amazing, love the alternating chapters with both POV, showing how much they struggle and sufer with the hard decisions they had to make, all because the so call “destiny” they have to fulfill, BS!!!… Fortunately, Coy is so rebel and her angelic side is stronger, she will do whatever it takes to do the right thing and protect the innocents… Great world building and stroy line, amazing MC, unexpected twists and turns!!!… Can’t wait for the next book!!!
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily decided to write and honest review.
Book 1 was SO AMAZING and left me hanging so I’m stoked to see this one’s out now. Full review coming later ….
This series keeps getting better and better. In Tarnished Light we ended with Killian getting Coy and group into Terminus to protect them and to get his scientists, yes, the evil scientists, to create a cure for the plague hitting both his Phiam and Coy’s father figure, Jeremiah. And if his heart has it’s say, she’ll stay with him forever.
In Darkness Shines, we’re on Terminus, and never before had the Dark and the Light fought each other with quite such ferocity. But this ferocity was born of a burgeoning love, not anger or hate. Because these two are so different in their leanings, they are in constant battle against their inner demons. And from day one, Lilith has been attempting to keep them apart, or, if that fails, get Killian to kill Coy.
I’m not going to tell you how this all unfolds. That’s for you to read and see for yourself. But I will tell you it is a gripping tale that will pull your heart strings over and over again. You will be happy, sad, furious and ecstatic, but never ever indifferent.
Carly Marino is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Fantasy genre. Her incredible character building makes you want to meet these people, hang out with them, perhaps yell at them for awhile and help guide them. Her world building helps you see Terminus in all it’s glory and Haven as not quite the sanctuary you would think.
Between Angels and Nephilim, Phiam and our two Teraphim, we find ourselves on a wild ride among beings who basically rule the world. Lowly humans wouldn’t stand a chance against the Fallen. Not only will you become familiar with Coy, Killian, Demi, Oliver and Jeremiah, you will be faced with Lilith, who leads the Fallen, Obyzouth who gets in the way, Veran of the sea, dangerous in her own right and Amduscias who does Lilith’s bidding, even if it means hurting Killian. You will meet Angels and Nephilim who are so self righteous they’ll make you want to clobber a few yourself. They inflict their will on all beings of the light and their prejudice against the Teraphim cause Coy and Killian nothing but grief.
This series is a treasure trove of mythical creatures that become so real as you go along. This is something that I really enjoy in a fantasy series. And Carly does it with such skill.
So, I can only say Oh So Very Well Done, Carly Marino! So Very Very Well Done indeed. You have amazed me from the start and I don’t see you stopping any time soon.
I received this book from the author. This review is in my own words and of my own volition as always.
