This trilogy has been on my TBR for a looonnnggg time and me and my besties decided to do a buddy read together of the trilogy. Mind you we all have different tastes in books, but we can all agree on one author… J.L. Drake…so we started reading. And then the group chat started to blow up….
This book is told from 3 POVs. The heroine Emily, the hero Seth, and the crazy motherfucker Jimmy Lasko. Book one lays the groundwork and is chalk full of suspense. Jimmy Lasko is one sick character. I mean fucked up! He has fixated on his prey and he does not plan on letting her get away and all we can do is sit back and watch/read. However, could there be more going on than just a simple stalking?
The story kept me on the edge of my seat, and I read this book in one day… I just kept turning the pages. You think you know the who, you think you are figuring out the why, the how, the why…when all you truly wind up doing is going done a sick and twisted path of suspense. The story was great and my appreciate for Ms. Drake’s sick twisted mind has been reinforced with this book. Though I will admit, Ms. Drake, your roach incident has seriously scarred me and my friends for life.
I enjoyed this book, and I did keep reading (I have actually finished them all). If you like suspense, a sick SOB for a bad guy, rabbit holes that will keep you guessing all the way to the end, and a great story. This is for you. And, you do not even have to worry about the holy-shit cliffhanger at the end because all the books are released! This book gets my recommendation!
Book 2 – Darkness Follows – Darkness Follows just stepped up the crazy factor!

The buddy read continues…and all of three of us were floored by that ending in book 1. Book 2 picks up right where we left off. We get to become more intimately involved with Jimmy Lasko and his crazy…and let me tell you. I did not see the twists and turns coming and Jimmy Lasko takes the crazy up ALL the notches!
This book takes us further down the rabbit hole of why Jimmy Lasko is fixated on Emily. It also turns us against all the characters. I do not know who to trust at this point. I am literally texting my friends with all kinds of conspiracy theories. I think we are all going off the rails with speculation and theories.
And as we move through the book… the crazy gets crazier and the rabbit holes deeper. Seriously, WTF is going on here….and now I hate snakes. Really… a snake J.L. Drake? All I am going to say, is this book take us on one wild ride and when you get to the end, your jaw is going to be on the ground.
In Darkness Follows, we learn more about all the characters. Characters may die, and we won’t know who to trust. If you like suspense with a side of crazy, this book is for you. I recommend and I have finished the series.
Book 3 – Darkness Falls – A good end to the trilogy! Holy cow what a ride!

The buddy read continues…and all of three of us were floored by the surprise at the end of book 2 and honestly, I have no idea where this book is going to take us. But trust no one is my new motto.
There is a lot happening in book 3. I mean a lot, sometimes there was almost too much going on for me. We thought we knew what was going on based on books 1 and 2, but book 3 takes us to new heights of suspense and distrust. Seth and Emily are trying to pick up the pieces of the first two books…but still nothing is as it seems and the plot thickens and the crazy gets crazier and the group text (my buddy read cohorts) is getting filled with crazier conspiracy theories.
I am not going to spoil anything, so I am not going any further into this book. More characters will die. You will not know who to trust, and your family regardless of its issues will look fantastic compared to the families in this book. If you like twisted suspenseful thrillers with a side of romance, grab this series. I recommend!
Holy Crap! This is the first series I read by Jodi and it totally floored me. The way she writes has you tip toeing around corners cause you think this is happening to you, it is that good. The mystery and suspense all with a romance woven in between. Who wouldn’t want to read about Hot cops and serial killer they have to catch?
If your a fan of this author she doesn’t disappoint with this series Emily finds herself with a stalker who’s unhinged obsession wrecks the lives of everyone around her. There are more twists and turns and secrets to be told that you are never finished finding out the end game until the very end excellent read
