From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the final story in the sensual, pulse-pounding Darkness series… feels it in his blood, in his soul—but convincing her is another matter. The dragon clan healer finds him obnoxious and annoying, but he knows a woman’s interest when he smells it. And Greer smells like one word: mine.
Meets a giver of life…
Greer has spent hundreds of years using her healing abilities for the good of others, making her the polar opposite of Reaper. The ferocious war general may be an ancient, but his arrogance proves he hasn’t spent any of that time learning about women. Greer is displeased when her Alpha sends her to New Orleans with the insufferable warrior—then she sees him in action against a menace threatening to tear the city apart. Fierce, protective, magnificent…mate-worthy. Maybe opposites do attract, but if they want to live long enough to find out, they’ll first have to save the world teetering on the brink of obliteration.
Length: NOVEL
Author note: This is the final book in the Darkness series and can be read as a stand-alone.

I really enjoyed Darkness Rising, and Greer and Reaper. There was so much going on in with the story that I just wish we got to focus a little bit more on them. With more focus it could of easily been a 5 star read.
Hard to put it down.
Darkness Rising is phenomenal, a absolute masterpiece. Consuming and unable to put this down I had no choice but to continue on with this book.

Katie Reus
A standalone read and the final book in the Darkness Series, “Darkness Rising” is a great ending to a wonderful series. Dragon shifter Reaper was a force to be reckoned with after he was awakened, but when he meets up with healer Greer, the chemistry between them is hot as fire. (pun intended). With suspense and action at every turn, these two burn up the skies on their way to their own HEA. No matter if this is your first read in the series, or you have read them all, if you are a fan of paranormal, this is a read you will want to pick up. Thank you to Netgalley for gifting me “Darkness Rising”. My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.5 Stars!
Always like her books
Loved it! Reaper just makes me happy. I found myself giggling at how literal he is and his misunderstanding of slang. I had to finish this in one day because I needed to find out what would happen next. I loved the twist of villains at the end. This book kept me guessing.
We have to say that this was our first book by this author and we really enjoy it by them and we loved getting to know all the character’s as the were so interesting and fun.We loved Reaper from the onset and his cave man ways. After reading this story I really need to go back and start the story from the very beginning.
Reaper a Greer where amazing together and had amazing heat together and I am not talking about the, breathing fire kind.We loved their fun and flirty relationship.
I love reading about Dragon shifters and it was a whole lot of fun with great character’s mystery and suspense and we loved that they had mates that where a different species as it just showed all the different personalities and alpha ways.
Overall we loved it and we are sorry we didn’t come upon this series sooner but, now that I have caught the bug we plan on reading the rest of the series. We thought it was an awesome read!
Recommended read to all!
Reaper had the kind of reputation that sent chills down the spines of his enemies. One of the fiercest warriors of their kind, he went into hibernation eons ago. Now he has been awoken and when he emerges from the earth, the first being he meets is one of his own kind. But to say Reaper is out of touch is an understatement! He is going to have to take a crash course in 21st-century living before every female he comes across decided to take a bite out of him (and not in a nice way!)
Greer is stunned when this huge dragon warrior dives into her life. She is a healer, not a warrior, but doesn’t mean she is defenceless. Pity this stupid-ass ancient dragon won’t listen to her. But when she realises that he was awoken with a particular task in mind and that he just so happens to b her mate – well that’s a game changer!
Well, there is a whole lot going on in this final book of the Darkness series. There are heartbreaking moments and lots of swearing, especially with Reper’s attitude towards Greer! However, in all, it’s a great read with twists and turns and although there is a HEA for out leads, the same cannot be said for the rest of the world!
Great to see the obnoxious, out-of-date ancient warrior falling for a very capable, Healer who had a trick or two up her sleeves!
It’s always a bittersweet feeling when I open up the last book in a favorite series and start reading. I get invested in the characters of my go to series and think of them as old friends. I have high hopes that they’ll be left secure in their worlds with hard times just a memory. This means that last book in a series has a lot to live up to. Well, Ms. Reus took my expectations for Darkness Rising and spectacularly blew them out of the water and I loved every second of it. Seriously, as I write this, I’m listening to REM’s End Of The World As We Know It and it fits perfectly for the mood this book left me in.
Now, I did get some of the things I hoped for like lots of action and suspense, a super hot dragon hero, a strong heroine, and super sexy chemistry that blows the roof off. I expected a bittersweet experience with a sweet ending and lots of shifter babies, especially dragon-shifter ones, and I got that too. But in the middle of all this, everything went to hell in a handbasket and I got so much more.
I freaking loved every delicious inch of Reaper. An ancient known as the Dragon of War, he was one stubborn, obnoxious, perfectly growly alpha dragon. Since he’d been asleep for eons, he was also endearingly clueless at times, not that he ever admitted it. He actually took it all in stride.
Greer turned out to be one surprisingly badass healer entirely capable of holding her own with alpha dragons, especially ancient ones. Reaper drove her crazy in so many ways, but mostly because she wanted the sexy as all get out grump despite how obnoxious he was. This made for some fun dynamics that were a delight to read.
Yes, that bittersweet ending I expected got blown out of the water, but it gave me so much more! Goodbyes are hard, but this wasn’t that and that’s all I’m saying on the matter. Wait, I take that back. Prepare to get your socks blown off. There is sadness and tragedy when things take that turn, but for the last book in a series, it sure left us with so many possibilities.
5 Totally Unexpected Stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
So, I have to start by saying, I have missed a few in this series. I definitely need to do some catching up. So the only reason for my 4 star rating, it took some time getting up to speed. If I would have read the previous book, this really would have been a 5 star read. I did hate to see the series end, but all good things do. Lots of action and a wonderful HEA wrapped up an amazing series. A must read for PNR lovers. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Reus brings us next. It sounds like a spin-off is coming.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book I received from NetGalley. This is my personal opinion.
This is the last book in the Darkness series, which makes me sad, but it definitely goes out with a bang!
Reaper is centuries-old dragon who has recently awoken from hibernation. He’s trying to adjust to this new world he find himself in. He’s drawn to Greer, the dragon clan’s healer and realizes she’s the one for him. Greer, however, doesn’t seem to be on board with his plans. Reaper will have to work hard to get Greer to come around….especially amidst all the danger around them.
With its fast-paced plot and show and steady build up of suspense, this book held my attention and I found myself flipping pages as fast as I could. Until I got to the very end, sat back and thought, “Wow!! What a ride!”
I will miss this series but I’m happy knowing there’s going to be a spin-off series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
Reaper and Greer… talk about a hot steamy mess…lol
omg, this is the final Darkness book NOOOOOOOOOOOOO… But wait there is a spin-off coming to YAY okay I can breathe again now…
Darkness Rising was worth the wait just like every other book in this series Greer finally meets her mate and wow he was a total surprise package in so many ways…lol
I loved the action, I loved the spectacular fight scenes, the vivid descriptions brought the book to life, I LOVE the characters and the laughs in between the serious world changes, this story had a bit of everything.
5 Dragon Reaper Roaring, You’re Mine, Fire Breathing, Stars****
Where there are DRAGONS, I am there!!! I LURRVVEEEE DRAGONS!!! in this beautiful masterfully written book we meet an ancient, a War Dragon, named Reaper who has awakened and his mate is none other, than our beloved Greer, from the Petronilla Clan! Loved it, loved it, loved it!!! Filled action, suspense, a whole new world and the manifestation of the mating call for Greer and Reaper made for a thrilling ride! Though I am a bit saddened to see this series end, there is good news that a spinoff is on the horizon and I am happy to know that. There are so many characters that need their story told, especially Prima and Arthur, then Mira and August, which is the one story I want to read the most! I simply cannot wait!!!
****I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by NetGalley*****
Reaper, an ancient warrior dragon, has awakened from hibernation, as have other ancients. Now they are being murdered. Who is responsible? What is the enemy trying to accomplish? As Reaper adjusts to his new world, he’s drawn to Greer. She’s a healer. I enjoyed seeing how Reaper tries to control his dominant nature. He wants to impress his female. Greer is strong and feisty. She won’t be a pushover. Watching their interaction made me smile. Their battle of wills pulled me into their romance. The dialogue reflects their powerful natures. I, also, liked all the other characters. Prima’s wild personality adds to the action. I was shocked by all the unexpected action and drama. Suddenly there’s a new world for the Humans and the Shifters to adjust to. Katie Reus wrote an exciting story filled with compelling characters and intense action. I’m sorry that the Darkness series is ending but excited to read the upcoming spinoff.
Reaper is awakened after a long Hibernation because his blood told him war was on the horizon. He is determined to find other warriors to help in the battle to come. Before he can figure out how to find those warriors, he meets Greer and it’s hard for him to focus on anything but getting to know her better. And Greer is focused on trying to avoid Reaper and her attraction to him.
When one of the warriors Reaper is trying to find is located in New Orleans, Greer is asked by her Alpha to go to keep an eye on him. Once they are in New Orleans, strange things start to happen and escalate into all out war all over the world. Joining forces with other supernaturals, Reaper and Greer helped to maintain control of New Orleans. They also embraced the fact that they were mates.
Instead of returning to her clan, Greer and Reaper decide they are needed more in New Orleans to help rebuild as others were doing all over the world. Hopefully better than before.
Dragon shifters, fated mates, a whole slew of supernatural creatures a battle to end all in NOLA and across the world and some sexual tension that has no rival? This series has it all!
*Can be read as standalone, but is the end of a 9 book series*
Greer and Reaper are a perfect match if they can get past their stubborn, and they have it in equal measures! Together they feel like an unstoppable couple – the ancient warrior and the healer. Such a fun read! All of the other characters are interesting and engaging as well. I will be headed back to start from the beginning!
If you need a good paranormal read, recommend!
This was such a fantastic paranormal read. The attraction, chemistry and sexual tension between Greer and Reaper was undeniable from their very first meeting and it only intensifies throughout the story. I enjoyed how Reaper riled Greer up. This story not only gives us Reaper and Greer’s story but we also see other characters we have come to love and can’t get enough of, and a few new characters come into play. This story just like the previous ones does not disappoint. This is the last book in the series and it’s full of suspense, destruction and action but I’m excited to read the spin-off series coming. The world needs rebuilding and I’m excited to see how every Alpha rebuilds their territory while enjoyed some of my favorite characters.
DARKNESS RISING (Darkness #9) By Katie Reus
Darkness Rising is the 9th book in the Darkness Series and is the final one. As is true Katie Reus fashion, this is still as fresh, a compelling read as ever. This can be read as a stand alone book, but reading the prior ones will enrich the story in my opinion. This is the story of Reaper who is the Dragon of War and Greer who is a healer for the Petronilla clan. He is an ancient that has recently been awakened from his hibernation and Greer comes finds him. Reaper realizes immediately that Greer is his mate, but convincing her will take some effort. They need to get to the bottom of what is causing this. This story has action, great plot, chemistry and my favorite…we get some past characters from the series. Great job Katie! I give this book 5 stars.
Darkness Rising by Katie Reus is book 9 and the final book in the Darkness Rising series. This is Greer and Reaper’s story. What a deliciously amazing story !! Without giving anything away, there are twists, turns and an ending that I didn’t see coming. I loved this series and hope that we might get spin-offs from this series or revisits down the road. Greer and Reaper’s story was really phenomenal and an amazing way to end the series. Two great characters who sizzled up the pages!! Sad to see the series end but definitely ended on a great note.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
Dragon war – So awesome! This may be the last book in the series but it’s definitely NOT the end. So many changes have happened in this world that it takes a spin-off series to tell them. Katie has me hooked on her shifters, especially the dragons!
Reaper, the ancient dragon War General has just awoken from a long hibernation with his blood telling him war, fire and destruction are on the horizon, fire would bathe everything. That he is needed and things would soon change. Unknownst to him, the other reason he’s awake is his mate, dragon healer Greer is there to witness him awakening. Greer was taking some personal time as healer for the Petronella Clan. She takes him to her alpha Conall and so begins our story. Opposites do complete each other. Something I’ve always believed if they work as a team. And these two are polar opposites, he full of war and death while she’s all about peace and healing.
There is so much to love about this story. We get to see other characters we’ve come to care about working together to save as many as they can. We meet new friends I’m sure we’ll see more of in the new series. And the villain of this story is the Zmey Clan bent on ruling the world. There is so much going on in this story that it’s hard to put down. I can’t wait for the new series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
