Emily McPhee is in the clutches of a monster…
Despite the protection of her boyfriend Seth Connors and his colleagues with the Orange Police Department, Emily is imprisoned in a basement by her psychopathic stalker Jimmy Lasko. His bizarre behavior adds to her terror, and a video link forces Seth to witness her captivity, leaving him feeling helpless as he, the OPD, and the FBI search for her.
… for her.
Freedom isn’t free, and safety is just an illusion…
Though Emily escapes the basement, the threat is far from eliminated. In fact, things she learned while being held by Lasko lead her to believe he isn’t working alone. Lasko is still out there, determined to get her back, and crazier than ever. If he does have a partner, Emily has no idea where the threat might lie or who she can trust.
It’s impossible to live a normal life when family ties become tangled.
Emily is deeply hurt when Seth is reminded that their relationship might endanger her further and he pulls away again. She’s even more frustrated when her globe-trotting mother returns and is charming to everybody…except her own daughter.
When Emily meets Seth’s family, she loves his mom and little sister, isn’t sure what to make of his flirtatious brother—who is also a cop—and finds herself very uneasy around his father, who is a powerful attorney.
Sometimes things seem very clear…until you look more closely.

The buddy read continues…and all of three of us were floored by that ending in book 1. Book 2 picks up right where we left off. We get to become more intimately involved with Jimmy Lasko and his crazy…and let me tell you. I did not see the twists and turns coming and Jimmy Lasko takes the crazy up ALL the notches!
And as we move through the book… the crazy gets crazier and the rabbit holes deeper. Seriously, WTF is going on here….and now I hate snakes. Really… a snake J.L. Drake? All I am going to say, is this book take us on one wild ride and when you get to the end, your jaw is going to be on the ground.
In Darkness Follows, we learn more about all the characters. Characters may die, and we won’t know who to trust. If you like suspense with a side of crazy, this book is for you. I recommend and I have finished the series.
Oh boy , what a twist that I did not see coming. JL Drake does it again. Leads you down a dark path that you can’t help but follow and just when you think you have it all figured out…. you are hit with the OMG moment.
The fight with Lasko continues! I get so immersed in the book that I’m yelling at Emily every time- run, RUN! Its so hard to put the book down, you need to know how she gets away and what Lasko is really doing. Loved it!
Again J.L Drake knocks it out of the park. I could not put this series down and it all intertwines with her other books.
Emily is a beautiful college student dealing with personal issues, as an unknown stalker makes her his obsession. Trying to remain strong and independent, while her friends, including Officer Seth Conners, stand by Emily’s side offering advice, protection, and a chance at love. Will she break from the stress and who is this crazy guy anyway??
Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat or bed and possibly be more aware of your surroundings!!!
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time you read it. You won’t be able to stop reading and honestly, you probably shouldn’t. There are so many twists and turns that it keeps your attention and makes it really easy to keep reading. You’ll learn so much more in this book so pay attention and enjoy it.
