“Vampires don’t exist. At least, not anymore…”I celebrated when vampires were declared extinct. Those beasts had preyed on humanity for millennia, committing senseless, brutal murders. Like the rest of my colleagues at the Occult Bureau, I looked forward to a world where we could all sleep at night—where constant cover-up jobs were no longer required to keep the public calm and unaware. But the … the public calm and unaware.
But the end of vampires wasn’t the end of our problems. It was only the beginning.
Other blood-sucking creatures began to lurk in the night. As soon as I turned twenty-one, I became a ground agent at the Bureau because I wanted—no, needed—to join the fight.
And then Dorian Clave burst into my life—turning everything I thought I knew into quicksand. Vampires like him were killers who devoured humanity’s inner darkness until shadows danced beneath their skin. Yet there was more to him than that.
He showed me that light cannot exist without the dark, and that trying to fight this balance would have consequences our human minds couldn’t even comprehend.
Because sometimes darkness needs to exist.

Overall rating: 5
Every once in a while, you stumble upon a book that makes you want to rethink your definition of greatness. This author truly has given me a clear benchmark that should really be used (by me anyways) for future rating guidelines. The storyline gripped me mercilessly, the characters has me so engrossed in figured out motives and possible betrayals. The scenes between the action scenarios relentlessly kept feeding my gut need to keep reading. The tale itself is unique with me not being able to recall any other books that even come remotely similar, and yet the only other series I’ve read that drew me in this deeply have been written by this author and a very select few others. On a scale of one thru five, I want to assign a ten. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
If you liked the Twlight series you will love this series too!
A Gripping Vampire Story. The Start Of Something Epic I Think!! 4.5 Stars.

Darklight (Darklight #1)
Lyra & her brother Zach both work for special section in the Bureau. Their parents & uncle Alan all work for them too but in different capacities now that Vampires extinct. They fought to keep all humans safe & in the dark about vampires when they were on the front lines. Lyra & Zach & all of their colleagues up & down the Country are fighting ‘Redbills’. They’re a giant Stork like bird with razor sharp teeth, they drink blood like vampires, and attack humans at will!!
On a Redbill hunt with their team, which includes Lyra’s bestfriend & Zach’s girlfriend Gina, Lyra is snatched, She’s flown away on a Redbill!! It becomes clear to her that the man who’s taken her is in fact a Vampire! She’s terrified but is trying to control it, he hasn’t hurt her yet & says he isn’t going to, he wants to talk to her & needs her help! He and the group he’s with want asylum & in return they’ll help them with their Redbill problem.
The story he tells her & seems to back up with proof has Lyra promising to help if she can. It will take a huge shift in thought processes & trust to even attempt what they’re suggesting. Can the bloodthirsty vampires of their nightmares be trusted? Is what they claim true & if so, how had they gotten it so wrong all these years??
This was a fang-tastic () read! The world building is, as ever, spot on. The characters, even the grumpy ones (Kane/Roxy), are relatable & still contain something likeable within them. There’s a thread of a potential romance or few, which is nice as it’s not being rushed & there are huge obstacles! The new lore that the Author has created is fascinating & opens up many possible storyline threads which is great! I was thoroughly invested in Dorian & his people and their hopes to coexist in peace. I was also completely captivated by the story as a whole, it’s gripping. I can’t wait to carry on with this series!
