BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Karen Marie Moning’s Bloodfever.
MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks… until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death — … murdered, leaving a single clue to her death — a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone — Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed — a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane — an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women — closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book — because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

First read by this author and first in series.
I had been recommended this book a while ago and eventually it wound up on the top of my tbr pile.
I was sucked into the story straight away, I wanted to know what happened to mac’s Sister.
I wanted to see if anything would come between Mac and barrows…if anything because at this point I’m …
The world with Mac is definitely interesting.
The best read ever. This will make a reader out of anyone.
Loved the series. A bit slow starting, but worth reading
Mac’s story is hard to put down with each twist and turn you go from lovibg Me. Moning to wanting to throw the book across the room. This Fae Fever series is one of the top three series that I recommend and I still reread them from start to finish every year.
Love the entire series! Highly recommend it!
I read this series years ago and really, really liked it. It is intense and kind of dark but enjoyable and easy to get into.
Loved this book in a series. I’ve read all of them.
Total page turner. Couldn’t put it down!
Highly original story and characters. Karen Marie Moning has a wonderful imagination and builds a world you want to know more about. I have read the entire Fever series and love this author.
This series is my favorite series of all time! Darkfever is an amazing introduction into Mac and Barrons’ world!
I only gave this book a rating of 3 simply because it ended with a cliff hanger, and to find out what else happens, the other books must be read. I thought the book had a lot of action. There were times that I was annoyed at a few of the characters, but it was still a good book. I just hate cliff hangers.
A very good writer with a fantastic imagination that takes us along for the adventure. Read the whole series.
What happened to Karen Marie Moning’s writing? I didn’t like this book at all. It’s dark and depressing and doesn’t seem like it’s the same author who wrote the Highlander series, which I loved.
Very promising description—not the greatest writing but certainly enjoyable
KMM is a great writer. I have to binge read her fever series.
Loved the whole series
I like the world Moning created in this book. The two main characters have significant flaws but I am willing to bet they are more fleshed out in subsequent books. I will definitely continue reading this series.
My favorite supernatural novel. Just the right amount of action, intrigue, sexual tension, and great character development. I loved that this series takes place in Ireland and all of the nuances and Celtic details added to enhance the atmosphere. I read this series again and again.
First of all, this is a re-read for me. I read it first in February of last year, but wasn’t writing reviews back then.
I love this series. I find the main character to be a strong female and I love that. She starts out very materialistic and “woe is me” but even through that is determined to right wrongs and figure things out for herself rather …
