I’ve always known pain. Existence. Night.Made a sinner.Without a soul to keep me tethered to the world I so desperately want to be a part of but am damned to rule… power surging under my fingertips like the cruel universe was finally answering my screams at night for something more.
And just like that, the memories come, only I don’t know if they’re mine or someone else’s entirely.
Long ago, I made a bargain with a god.
A soul for a soul.
I spent thousands of years without this awareness and now?
Everything I touch turns to ash.
Even my own immortal friends fear what I am.
Everyone but her. The day to my night.
Part of me doesn’t want to know what I am.
But it’s too late, too all-consuming.
Darkness is coming.
That darkness, I’m afraid. Is me.

This is a stand alone read that being said if you get a chance to read the previous books in this series you should. Timber has a new tattoo that seems to pulse and grow throughout the book. Kyra is starting a new job in a new place. The more Timber and Kyra interact the more the tattoo grows. The connection between the two is undeniable.
I love that there is history that we get to discover along with the characters and all of the twists and turns. We get to see Timber’s history and why he is the way he is. We get to meet Timber’s family. Kyra’s family leaves a lot of questions in the beginning but by the end we understand why. This is a great book and one I would recommend to others.
I came into this series with a blank slate – I just knew it was paranormal with action and romance – Heck yeah!
Darkest Sinner can be read as a standalone so that is what I did
I fell in love with the cast within the first few pages! Each one was so vibrant bringing their own quirk to the table. And the way they complimented each other only fed into the feeling of comradery (it was like the show Friends but a bit on steroids)
Timber started out as a real horses backside. Grumpy and pushy and thinking he was all that. That was until one tiny little slip of a gal that he had to tilt his head down to glare at handed him his arse on a plate!
Kyra set him off as nothing else could – Lawd I loved that girl’s tenacity and the honesty in her fear but acceptance was refreshing.
I do not want to give to much away because if you are going into this blind as I did there are so many OMG moments and revelations that make this story the book hangover that it was.
I had so many questions pop up while I was reading this – heck as soon as I closed the last page I hit my local library and grabbed the series from book one – Yes it was that entertaining
The copy I read was comp
I was so excited to finally have Timber’s book. I knew it would be great. But, this was so much better than great!
I wasn’t expecting the twists about who Timber actually is. Or who Kyra is.
Yes, it was hidden from both of them!
But once it all came out, I was so excited. I thought Timber’s book would be the last in the series. But it looks like his brother will get a book also! No, I won’t say his name because it could give Timber’s true identity away.
I really hope Tyreck gets a book too!
I’m greedy! I want more, so much more and it’s all Rachel Van Dyken’s fault!
She’s an amazing writer and story teller. Her worlds just suck you right in and you don’t want to leave…ever.
Darkest Sinner is the fifth book in the The Dark Ones Saga by Rachel Van Dyken. It is also the first book in the series I have read and I didn’t feel lost one bit. I do, however want to read the previous books since this was so good. I don’t read a whole lot of paranormal but it’s RVD. I would the read the back of a cereal box if she wrote it. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will make it fast.
Timber is a cranky demon king who runs a dozen bars around the city. Kyra is his new bubbly employee. And from the moment they met he knew he needed to stay away from her. Not only because of her sunny personality but because when they touched things changed. He didn’t know what was going on between them but he was scared. And a demon doesn’t get scared. They are the ones creatures and humans are afraid of. But not her. She was different and he was fucking terrified.
Kyra didn’t know what Timber’s problem was. That was until one night that changed her way of looking at her past. Her present. And even her future. She was scared of what was to come. But for some reason she trusted Timber and his pack of mythical friends. Should she though, really?
Well, that’s all I can really say. I will say that I loved it! Timber is delicious and Kyra is kind of a badass. Together, they banter well. It’s full of sarcasm, fun, and flirt. With a side of heat. And alpha tendencies. I am excited to see what is up next in the series!
Quotes:
“Stay away from me. This isn’t a game. You’ll only get hurt. Run along now.” He flicked his wrist.
“No, sweetheart, I’m way worse than that. I am the damned.”
“Try not to enjoy my touch too much.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re good looking but I think I can manage.”
“Good looking, wow, easy on the compliments. My ego can’t take it.”
I love every book in this series, but Darkest Sinner might just be my favorite yet! The story is so intricate and unique and definitely keeps you turning the pages to find out what’s really going on with mysterious Timber. Rachel Van Dyken weaves Greek mythology into this book in a way that sucked me in and made me feel like I was part of this powerful world. Timber and Kyra’s story is one that warmed my heart but also set my kindle on fire… Their chemistry and love goes beyond words. Absolutely a must read!
I love me a hot and steamy paranormal book. I especially love when the paranormal characters are descendants of gods.
Timber knows hes a Demon and he fears his time is running out. He can’t quite remember the past or how he came to be cursed but as vine/branch grows on his body, his life nears the end.
Kyra is searching, for what she doesn’t know, but she feels immediately at home around the gruff Timber. the more time they spend together the more she dreams of a past life that’s so vivid she sears its real. But Timber and Kyra are connected more than they know.
Can Kyra help Timber before its too late? definitive click this steamy romance up now.
I have said this before and I will say it again….This is one of the best series Rachel has written…If you liked the Twilight series, YOU. WILL. LOVE this series!!!
Timbre I have always loved Timbre, yea he’s scary but then I fell hard for him…

In theory Darkest Sinner can be read on a stand alone basis, however, I think this book would be best enjoyed by reading the series in order.
I am going to keep this short and sweet to avoid leaving spoilers. I’m not a huge reader of paranormal but I have been enjoying this series and the Darkest Sinner was another enjoyable installment. I was pulled in and found myself quickly sucked into this story. It had mystery and intrigue and some real “What” moments. I really enjoyed Kyra and Timer’s book and look forward to the next!
Wow how did I enjoy Darkest Sinner! I read most of the books of the Dark Ones series (which can be read as standalone) and it was a bit of hit and miss for me.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this opus and Timber/Kyra story. I don’t want to spoil the story but I was very impressed about the back story linking the two characters. It was a fresh take on mythology which I really enjoy and by doing so Rachel opened the door to a new character who I would love to read more about.
This book was not re-heated paranormal background but as I said took a very original outcome on how Timber became who he is and I loved it.
In usual Rachel ways the chemistry between Timber and Kyra is scorching and while sex is not central at all in their relationship it is still very hot.
It was a really emotional book and even if I laughed a few times with our Dark Ones I did get teary eyes a couple of times.
The story really flows nicely and I almost devoured it in one sitting.
All in all it was a great book and I would definitely recommend it to any paranormal romance fans!
4/5
I give Darkest Sinner by. Rachel Van Dyken 4.5 stars. This is a paranormal romance. Not my typical go to genre, but I still really enjoyed it.
If you like Demons, Vampires, werewolves, angles, or all of the above, this is definitely the book for you.
Timber King of the demons has suddenly found himself with a new tattoo, one that he did not intentionally get it just appeared. Not now why or what it means he and his friends try to figure it out.
Kyra started working at Timbers club Soul, than found that he was very mysterious but attractive. She knew there was something different about him just wasn’t sure what it was.
I really enjoyed this story. Love discovering their secrets and getting a glimpse into their world, just a fun experience. Not only did I end up loving Timber and Kyra, but I also loved all the supporting characters. Some of the banter that took place was hilarious and had me laughing out loud. There were also some serious, kind of nail biting moments, and of course love. Put all that together and you have this wonderful book, I am glad I read!
Rachel Van Dyken’s storytelling abilities just keep getting better and better. The care she takes in building these worlds you can’t help but get sucked in and fall in love with the characters.
Timber has always been an interesting character – if you’ve read the previous books (unnecessary, though to enjoy Darkest Sinner). Is he evil? How did he get to be the demon he is now? Basically, who is Timber and what is his goal?
All these questions and more are right here in Rachel Van Dyken’s fabulous new story. Timber’s character has a depth I didn’t know was there, and RVD’s words wrapped around my heart and made me fall in love. Kyra is an interesting character; She’s a little lost, but something is brewing just under the surface. Watching Timber and Kyra’s story unfold felt like I was enjoying a good movie – the chosen words helped me envision the scenes and that kept me turning page after page to find out what happens.
The original characters (Cassius, Mason, Alex, Ethan, etc.) are all there to give Timber a hard time and watch as lives are once again about to change. The character I adore and want more from is Tarek – he’s funny, sarcastic, witty, and has a huge backstory that I’d like to read.
Darkest Sinner is an epic love story and is a must-read for any RVD fan.

Two souls separated for hundreds of years as a curse for breaking the rules. For loving one when you were promised to another. But when your souls are apart they search for one another to be made whole. No matter the time nor the distance, the search continues until their hearts are reunited.
Timber is searching for his soul mate. She may be the only one able to save him…in more ways than one.
Kyra meets Timber at her job. She feels something immediately for him. She has no idea how or why. It’s just there, like she’s drawn to him.
Timber feels that pull as well. However, he needs to concentrate on figuring out about a curse that is slowly killing him. Kyra is ignorant of their world, except for the dreams she’s been having. It may all be connected.
A Demon, angels, gods, a vampire and a fairy…this story encompasses all of your PNR favorites. Timber has lived for a thousand years without love, so he’s not the happiest of demons. Kyra has found her place where she belongs. Both their worlds will be turned upside down. They will have to fight both the past and the present to get the future they have been searching for.
Let me start off by saying paranormal is not my go to genre. That being said, I could read Rachel’s all day long. I may even have a crush on Timber. Ok, I totally do. The twists and turns kept me flipping the pages, holding my breath and freaking out. The unexpected devotion this couple has for each other just gets bigger and better as the story continues. The sexual tension is through the roof. You will have a new appreciation of light vs darkness and it’s not what you might think. Darkest Sinner is full of power, intensity and unapologetic love that nothing or no one can extinguish.
Tracey, Life Reads With Friends
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
If you haven’t read any of The Dark Ones Saga you can read Darkest Sinner without reading the others. I couldn’t remember if I was caught up on this series or not but it didn’t phase my understanding of the story and these characters.
Darkest Sinner focuses on Timber and Kyra. Timber is a pretty old dude. He believes himself to be a demon. Kyra is human…or so they think.
There’s several events happening during this particular book. You will have to pay attention or you’ll miss some key elements. I thought some of the events could have been explained a little more or made more clear. I’m still a bit confused as to what Timber really is.
Their love story spans eons. Literally. Not just decades we’re talking ancient times to present day. The book is easy to read and enjoyable. I had no problems being immersed in their love story. As a typical RVD book you’re thrown into the story right away and probably won’t take a breath until the end.
Timber is the King of the Demon Race and Kyra is alone. All of the characters from The Dark Ones series are back in action to help him find out about the mysterious tattoos that are appearing all over him and slowly killing him. When he sees Kyra working at his bar, Soul, he begins to realize that maybe not all hope is lost.
As usual, Rachel pulls the reader into the story and holds on right. Darkest Sinner is no different. From the sexual tension to the mystery surrounding Timber and Kyra, we get to see all our favorites and even meet new characters.
I can’t wait for more from this author and I eagerly await the next book in this amazing series.
This book is one more reason why I love Rachel Van Dyken. I love this series and this book was amazing. I loved Timbers story. This author always has a way to make me love the bad guys and even feel sorry for them. I can’t wait to see what is next.
“I was of the first made. I was the last of the first left. And I was alone. A man alone is a terrible thing. A demon alone is a dangerous thing. But a soulless demon alone? That is a tragedy. It is worse than death.”
This series is amazing. It isn’t like any other paranormal romance, fantasy, etc stories I have read before. It has so many elements going for it that I can’t put it into one genre, you have to put it into several. Rachel does a phenomenal job at blending these genres so well that you don’t even notice unless you’re looking to categorize the book. It’s perfection, it’s talent, and it’s some of the best writing I’ve ever read.
“Because the one thing I wasn’t warned—your soul can’t deny it’s other half, your heart can’t lie. And love—transpires through time.”
I’ve stated at the end of each one of these books that THAT book was my favorite one out of the whole series/saga. I can honesty say that this book is truly my favorite one out of all 5 books. Even though I am pretty sure this is where the series ends, I’m still going to beg for a book for Horus (Timber’s brother). We got a little glimpse of him, but I could always use some more. LOL!
“The darkness wrapped itself around me like a blanket. Thankfully, it didn’t scare me, the darkness. It was just the opposite of light, and that didn’t mean it was bad. Dark was just the absence of light.”
Timber caught my eye as soon as we met him, but I never anticipated loving him as much as I did reading this book. I guess it’s a perfect example of why the tortured ones always become my favorite. Kyra’s strength is something that I admired so much in her. I loved watching the way she handled everything. These two together were so perfect.
I consider this one of my favorite paranormal series ever. I will always recommend it the moment someone asks for a suggestion like this. RVD may never add to this series again but I truly hope she writes one similar or just another PNR series of any kind.
“I saw her fears.
I saw myself the way she saw me.
A monster.
And before my very eyes, I became exactly what I always feared I would become.
Powerful beyond all measure.
And trapped for an eternity in a man’s body I did not choose, with memories of people’s deaths of which I was the cause.
My hell was not death.
My hell.
Was life.”
Darkest Sinner by Rachel Van Dyken is part of The Dark Ones Saga. This is the story of Timber and Kyra. I have read some of the other books (and Loved them!) but feel this could be a standalone book. Timber is King of the Demon Race, and for some reason has a mysterious tattoo that has started growing on his hand. Timber has a bar called Soul where Kyra happens to walk into to get a job. Kyra has always felt something was missing from her life which starts to change when she meets Timber. Timber’s friends have been trying to help him deal with this mystery that has invaded his life but no real leads, then he meets Kyra who may unknowingly have the key. . A mystery lies there between them, which they both start to acknowledge.
Another great and exciting read by Ms. Van Dyken.
Darkest Sinner can be read as a stand-alone book, but you’ll be missing out on some great backstories and a lot of humor if you don’t read the first four books in the series.
Vampires, Angels, and Demons, oh my! Yep, the paranormal gang’s all back! And while I’ve loved all of The Dark Ones Saga books, I think this one is my favorite. Yes…I realize I said that about Mason’s story (Darkest Temptation), but dang it, Rachel snuck in this really hot demon king, and she had me hooked and HAVING to know Timber’s story. But it so did NOT go where I thought it would go based on the last part of Mason’s book. Nope. Not one bit. She did not take it in the general direction I thought the story would go. Instead, she took it in an amazingly twisted journey that had me reading well beyond my bedtime. You’d think after reading so many of Rachel Van Dyken’s books (and honestly yet to find one I would NOT recommend), I’d know better by now than to start one of her books after 7 pm. Yet, I did. And I didn’t put it down until my iPad smacked me in the face when I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. But I quickly picked it right back up the moment my eyes sprung open the next morning, refusing to get out of bed until I was DONE! And what can I say other than Timber has my heart and soul. *Sigh*
NICUnurse’s Rating: I would not call myself a huge paranormal romance fan, but when it’s done really well, I can absolutely lose myself in the other realm for hours on end. Unfortunately, not all paranormal books and authors appeal to me. But as a long time RVD fan, you had to know I was gonna love––and be totally invested in––this series. And Timber’s cover?! I think that’s what made me fall in love with him even more. Hello, hot stuff! OK, OK. I’ll chill. I’m totally a cover whore. If the cover doesn’t appeal to me, I’m less likely to pick up the book and give it a try. Sorry, not sorry! (Actually, I’ll still pick it up if it’s one of my auto 1-click authors but maybe more grudgingly.) I digress…
Anywho…Timber and Kyra are now my favorite Dark Ones couple. With a love beyond the bounds of time and space, their story is definitely not one you’ve read before. It’s the ultimate second chance romance, and I give Darkest Sinner by Rachel Van Dyken 5 out of 5 stars!
4.5 stars
Darkest Sinner is all about Timber. There are secrets and things are uncovered that you don’t see coming. What I found was that although pnr isn’t usually something I like reading, this author has a knack at sucking you into her stories and not wanting to stop reading till you finish it!
There was suspense, drama and mythical creatures, and some rather interesting back story to Timber and why he’s the way he is. What is happening to him? Can no one give a clear answer? But what do they have to do to find out information??. I rather liked the banter and there were some parts where I laughed. I rather liked Kyra and wondered who she really was. A good story!
