Reader be forewarned, this is a dark and grisly story by Adrienne Woods about all the ways the Rubicon tries to avoid the darkness that is supposedly foretold to be his ordained destiny. There are many physical battles which are described in all their grisly and gory detail. There is also a lot, and I mean a lot of sex, but it is primarily described in general terms rather than detail. This book, even though it is about a rather dark existence for its main character was very enjoyable to read as the other characters’ personalities came out and interacted with each other. I also liked the third person narrative, as it was a welcome change in storytelling. This is a very very late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.
I was pleasantly surprised reading this book. I absolutely loved it. It was full of action from start to finish and it was something a little bit different to what I am used to reading. It breathed fresh air into the paranormal genre and I cannot wait to devour the next book and it’s contents.
ONE TUMULTUOUS WILD RIDE
Jumping jammies! Adrienne hit the ground running with this intense ground shaking rollercoaster, dishing out some horrifying facts, nerve racking choices and terrifying lessons, holding you prisoner from start to finish, skyrocketing this gem to staggering heights. Shattering the boundaries and dispensing the limits, laying out strong suits and short straws being weighed and balanced, bouncing this gem into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, slamming it into overdrive, launching it into a frenzy with a mind-blowing culmination. The characters, banter, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and graphic descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Adrienne, thanks for sharing this amazing thrill with us.
The darkness inside is trying to take over, and no one seems to understand how dangerous that is, or how you feel you need to cope to keep it at bay and keep people safe. Fighting, sex, drugs, rock and roll, and betrayal with plenty of twists. A good, decently fast paced story with friends constantly trying to help the best they can. Didn’t want to put it down and can’t wait to see if he can survive the darkness or will he decide to be claimed?

Blake has only a small hope that he can bet the darkness in him, for more often than not a Rubicon dragon has the darkness over take them. He considers his dragon as more of a beast than part of him, because of how it demands dark deeds to satisfy it’s growing needs. Can he one of the few Rubicon dragons to not turn dark? Will he have someone to claim him? And if he does will they just make it worse? I loved tormented Blake, who almost seems to jump out from the pages, and I look forward to the next book in this dark, but gripping tale.

This book was the first for me by this author and I did enjoy it though I thought it was a little slow in parts. The characters were well rounded and did keep the story going overall. The darkness of this was a bit overwhelming at times and I though I did enjoy the book being fantasy nerd I would have like some relief from it here and there especially with the pandemic going on right now. Probably not a good time to read a book like this for me. However if you like a dark book with a sexy dragon this book is for you.

This book was given to me by booksprout. I am leaving this review freely. This book is a great read. Can not wait to read the next. The battle between good and bad is a great twist with dragon shifters. Hope you enjoy as much as I did. I am going to see if I can find the next story. Hope to see you there.
I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down until I read the last page.
He’s the Rubicon. He’s destined to either be one of light or succumb to the darkness. He needs a rider if he is to make it but the royal family was murdered. The King and Queen were murdered before they could produce an heir. Now, Blake battles every day with the darkness that grows within him. He’s fighting, but for how much longer can he hold out? This is his story.
Darkbeam Part 1: The Rubicon’s Story is a spinoff of Adrienne Wood’s Dragonian series. While I have not read the original Dragonian series, I found this book fascinating and overall easy to follow along with what was going on. The main character, Blake, is engaging throughout the entire story. He’s a strong and compelling character. The author does a fantastic job showing the reader how much Blake struggles with the darkness that is ever creeping in on him. He tries so many things to try and keep it at bay. He’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. He does what he feels he needs to do in order to stay sane. He crosses the line multiple times, but it keeps the reader engaged.
There isn’t much that I don’t like about this book. There are moments of where the author leaves things vague and doesn’t explain. While this bothers me it doesn’t detract from my enjoyment of the overall storyline.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I truly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next part of Blake’s story. If you’ve not read the original Dragonian series, I’d say that you don’t need to worry about missing something overall. I do intend to go and read the original series that ties into this spin-off. If you enjoy dark fantasy novels then I highly recommend you read this book. You won’t be disappointed.

This is a tale of a young man fighting with his inner demons of good and evil. Blake believes that his destiny of darkness is waiting for him and he tries to find ways to avoid that destiny. This fantasy is a page turner with the adventures of Blake who is so self-destructive that it appears that he will destroy himself. His mind games are amazing. He is the “bad” boy. Read to see what happens to Blake and his self-destructive ways.

NO Spoilers! I am really glad I did not read any reviews before delving into this – There are a lot of little twists and character details that make a significant impact on the flow of the story line. If you are a newby to the series this is important. Why am I telling you that? Well, I just found out that this is Blake’s POV from an already published series – The Dragonian – which I haven’t read yet .
First thing I have to say is I was impressed with the depth of the characters and the details of the universe within this first book. This is a bit of a complex read with regards to the characters and their forms (Dragon, human Chromatic.. you get the gist)
The characters are vivid, well detailed. An assortment of personalities and traits that interconnected well supporting the main and secondary characters within the plot line. The story line kept me engaged and entertained, there were a few scenes that are slower but with all the “OH NO” moments it was nice to have a breather here and there. I was left with a few questions and no answers. I am curious now to read the original series.
I read a comp copy
I devoured the Dragonian series and so excited to finally get a chance to understand Blake’s side of the story. There are many layers to this Rubicon, Blake Leaf and relieved to know his conscience was still there…buried deep down. Makes my heart go pitter patter all over again.
Can’t wait to learn more about this misunderstood creature and fall in love all over again.
Although reading the Dragonian series is helpful, it is not necessary to dive into this new series.

I received this book for Free for a review. This Story is the same story that was written in the series Just through the narration and eyes of the Rubicon Dragon! Interesting but rather disappointing in that it is basically the same story and plowing through it knowing what will happen takes a lot of effort to force myself to finish reading.
Well written just well who wants to reread the same story almost back to back.

With the rest of the Beam Series under my belt, it was awesome to read this from Blake’s perspective and to live the story through him. It really adds to what I already knew and loved from the overall series! What’s even better is that if you haven’t read the Beam Series yet, you can still read this and not be lost.
On to DarkBeam Part 2!!
I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
First stating. I have read the entire series. I received the first book free for my honest review. It’s an okay book with a great world that was created but the delivery could be so much better. I felt many heartbreaks with this series with the amount of deaths taken place. The storyline is fine. Has mystery. Adventure. Love. It’s just that Blake is just an annoying character for me. I don’t know the way he is portrayed is so mechanical. The book itself is good I just don’t personally like Blake and the way he is written. Would recommend the book itself

There is darkness inside us all…but THE DARKNESS was awakening inside of Blake, consuming him, controlling him, and driving him to kill. Blake was losing control, as the beast began to take over his dragon-self, and the Rubicon grew in size, strength, and power. It was time for the claiming where Blake would discover who was strong enough and destined to become his rider. However, the beast did not want to be controlled, and was slowly taking over Blake’s entire existence. A dream about a red-haired girl was the only thing that brought Blake any comfort. But who exactly was this girl?
I enjoyed the premise of the story; the play of light vs evil; love vs hate; weakness vs strength. However, I felt the story moved too slowly mostly due to the huge number of sexual scenes and encounters. Yes, teenagers are horny, and dragons are even hornier. But this was way overboard. I could have done without these gratuitous sex encounters, and wish the story had moved along a lot quicker. Almost made me feel that the author was just filling pages with the purpose of increasing the word count. And I hated feeling that way.
