First in the all-new Cousins O’Dwyer TrilogyFrom #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love… of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.
Ireland.
County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.
Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.
When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.
Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

I would highly recommend Nora Roberts Books. They are suspenseful, have romance and mystery. There is usually a trilogy of them and they are all excellent reads. Once you get into one you can wait to start the next.
Dark Witch is written in Ireland and goes through each character in a separate book. So those you fall in love with you get to find out how their lifes went. It starts with a young girl coming of age and doesn’t know she has special powers.
Nora just keeps bringing us great novel after great novel. This brings the supernatural to life, but keeps true to her whimsical, romantic style. I fell in love with the whole trilogy, and I’m sure you will too.
Who knew I wanted to read a book about witches? I picked this up and was immediately sucked in! Great mythology and descriptions. The characters are fun, too.
The trilogy Cousins O’Dwyer by Nora Roberts is absolutely one of my favorites! I received this trilogy as a gift for my 19th birthday and I was done with it in a couple of months, I couldn’t put it down! She is currently my favorite author and she has tons of other great books as well! 100% recommend to anyone who likes a little romance mixed in with their action packed thrillers!
Okay, I’ll admit it. This is the first Nora Roberts’ book I’ve ever read. Don’t ask me why, because I loved it. Full of witches and conflict and wonderful characters…and Ireland, who could ask for anything more. Only bad thing is, now I’m going to have to read the other two books in the series.
At this point I have read most of Nora Robert’s trilogies but this one was always one I said I would read but never got the time to do it. Now that I have, I have so many mixed feelings about it. Dark Witch reads like a lot of her older trilogies when she was first getting started and it was a bit clumsy at times, a bit too much in other areas and I never really felt this huge connection between Iona and Boyle. I really adored both separately but together it did seem like Iona really did bother Boyle more often than not and not in the she’s getting under my skin because I love her so much way.
Even with all of that I really enjoyed this book. The setting, County Mayo was the perfect setting for this book. It really made you want to absorb all of that history that was being thrown out and the spells I thought were really clever and thought out. A bit kitschy yes but it is a book on magic so that is bound to happen at times. I think some of the best parts of this book was one the beginning with Iona’s ancestor and then when the three were together. I’m hoping that since this book was kind of laying the story book two will have a better plot and we will actually see what the three are made of.
Read this a while back. Anything by Roberts is excellent.
I loved this entire series! So great!
As one of my favorite series by Nora Roberts, I’ve read it more than once! The characters are wonderful and real, but with a little extra added that brings them extra challenges. You immediately get invested in the story, and because her descriptions are so well written, can easily imagine yourself right there along with them in the story.
While the story is complete, with an HEA, you need to read all three books as this is a trilogy.
I highly recommend the whole series.
Nora Roberts — The Dark Witch — Iona is hoping that she is finally on her way home. After selling everything that wouldn’t fit into her luggage, Iona moves to Ireland to live near her maternal family. Her Nan is the only person who has ever really cared about her, and she is eager to make a place for herself near her cousins. Branna and Conner have known all their lives that their ancestor Sorcha’s power comes to three of her descendants. When Ion arrives, the ancient evil sorcerer Cabhan also slinks back into town. Branna, Conner, Iona, and three of their oldest friends take on the task of ending Cabhan once and for all. But while Iona is learning how to control her newfound power, she might just find her HEA along the way. If you had a horse mad phase, this is your series! Happy Reading!
To be honest, Iona really got on my nerves in the beginning. She talked too much and came across as ditzy. That impression did change, but it took a minute. Her back story is a bit sad and you can’t help but feel bad for her and pray for happiness to find her.
The author does and amazing job with dialect. I felt like I was reading the book with an Irish accent. The difference between the American Iona and the Irish characters is very distinct and believable. The setting in Ireland is described vividly and beautifully. I did a bit of research myself to get a better visual of the land. It really makes you want to visit Ireland.
The book starts out from the very beginning of the O’Dwyer family legacy and gives the reader a great background for the story. The author did not seem to miss anything. There were no lingering questions or confusion. I look forward to reading the next book in the trilogy, which follow two other characters, but still has the main focus of the fight with evil that the family must defeat.
I loved all three Cousins O’Dwyer books, and have re-read them many times in the middle six months of 2020. I HIGHLY recommend this trilogy if you love romance, witchy folks, and Ireland.
While this isn’t quite as good as Nora Roberts’ “Gallaghers of Ardmore” Trilogy, I’m such a sucker for her any of her Irish romances. They’re the perfect guilty pleasure, and this one didn’t disappoint!
Alway her books are good reads. Keep me involved to the end
If you’re looking for a few good books to while away some of those new quiet hours we’re all experiencing, why not start with an intriguing tale of mystery, magic, romance and all of it set in Ireland? Say what you will about Ms Nora Roberts, but she can cast spells on her readers as easily as her characters cast spells in her books. Try this one, Dark Witch, and then go find Books 2 and 3. They’re every bit as entrancing!
The first book in the Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy by the multi-talented Nora Roberts is set in Ireland. Three cousins come together in the modern day to defeat a warlock that has been around since the 11th century.
Iona Sheehan grew up listening the stories told to her by her Nan. The ones about the legend of Sorcha and Cabhan, about the three who would eventually come together to defeat the warlock and finally end him. So she sells everything, quits her job, and takes off from America, heading to the land of her ancestors in County Mayo, Ireland. There she meets up with cousins Branna and Connor, and together they are the fated three. The ones to defeat Cabhan. Along the way though, Iona finds love with Boyle. A brooding Irishman who’s been on his own for far too long. There’s a total of 6 characters (three women/three men) just like in other books by Ms. Roberts, with the couples linking up in their own book in the series.
The reason for the 4-star review is because it was a very slow start and a long build up to not much of a bang. I expect more when reading one of Ms. Roberts books, this just didn’t give me everything I was expecting. I normally devour her books, but this one took me a long time to get into. To be honest, I was never fully invested in it which is a complete shock to be because it has all my favorite things, a great storyline, witches, romance, and good writing.
Dark Witch, the first novel in The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy, is an entertaining book. If you enjoy stories about witches and magic, you will like this tale. Overall, a quick and easy read.
Wonderfully developed characters. If you like reading supernatural novels with witches as the central characters, the three books in this series will not disappoint. It is also a “period” novel and the countryside, lifestyle and architecture are described in so much detail that the reader has a Birdseye view throughout the trilogy. This is also a story full of love-both romantic and familial. I wanted to join the family! Even the pets make the reader wish to interact with them.
I read the first two books before the third one was published and pre-ordered the third. You must read all three to get story closure, but I promise you will enjoy the journey.
Great start to the trilogy.
I liked it and the other two books alot. Love reading ms. Roberts stories.
