I enjoyed this paranormal mystery. It was an interesting glimpse into rural England and I found the paranormal elements for the most part amusing. I found it a good introduction to the characters and I’m interested to know how things work out for them.
Bewitched by Chocolate is H. Y. Hanna’s paranormal cozy mystery series, and the first of its kind that I’ve actually enjoyed. I’m not really into the paranormal genre, but this hit all the right notes with me. A family secret. An ancient ruin. A cute, small town with lots of gossip. All things that I enjoy in a story. Lots of fun!
This book was just plain fun! When Caitlyn’s glamorous mother dies, Caitlyn discovers that she was found at the side of the road as a baby and adopted. The only clue to her real mother is a runes necklace that she still wears. That necklace takes her back to a small, obscure village in England with a circle of stone and rumors of witches. And a recent murder. The fun starts there and keeps going. She ends up renting a room above a chocolate shop where a magic spoon constantly stirs the cauldron of chocolate. The town is full of interesting people, a big slobbery dog, and of course, a handsome land owner. Gentle humor colors every scene. The perfect book for a pleasant evening.
Fantastic book for the first in the series. If you’ve been reading my blog for sometime, you know that a witch coming into her power is my catnip, so, of course, I had to try out this series. I was not disappointed.
H.Y. Hanna begins developing the characters very nicely. I love how she portrays the vampire guardian, and he made me chuckle a couple of times. And I’m looking forward to getting to know the owner of the chocolate store, her family, and Caitlyn’s cousin even more.
As for the love interest, Lord Fitzroy, seemed like a very good partner for Caitlyn. He holds back, where she rushes into situations. And his for love animals is made apparent, which I think is a great trait in anyone.nI liked that Hanna didn’t over use the trope, I like him, but I’m not good enough, so I hate him, but I really still like him. Now if she introduces a love triangle, we’ll see how I continue to feel about Lord Fitzroy.
The way Hanna doesn’t resolve everything, except the murders, just entices the read to get book two, Witch Chocolate Fudge, to see how the story continues. This is how most cozy mysteries series (or book series in general) end their books, to keep you coming back. The mystery itself was well done, with the perfect amount of false clues.
I will definitely be reading the next book, Witch Chocolate Fudge.
A pure witchy, cozy, funny murder mystery. Fun read with plenty of delightful characters, especially Viktor, an old man in black missing his fangs and turns into a fruit bat!
A cozy set in a small English rural town that is hard to find under the mist and back roads. You have Caitlyn, an American, visiting to find out her past since her mom died and discovering she’d been picked up from the side of a road as an infant. Her sexy cousin in England, Pomona, is worried that Caitlyn will come to harm in a town linked to witches and a recent murder.
Every character is unique and memorable from Bertha and Evie to Widow Mags, and James Fitzroy …..a hunk with a title and money. The scenery is very descriptive and I can picture the whole town and each building. There is a murder to solve, Caitlyn’s past to be resolved and chocolates to eat.
Do not read this book without a piece of chocolate to savor as you will smell the candies and truffles!
I really didn’t expect to enjoy this book but the people and humor are contagious. The plot works, the witches seem believable, and Caitlyn is a worthy character to star in more books . This is a 4.5 star rating.
Predictable but would be good for young adults.
This book is about a woman who goes to a small town that supposedly is populated with witches. She encounters a witch who owns a chocolate shop. She uses spells to make her confections.
Didn’t like the ending.
Enjoyed every minute!
This is a fun, mysterious and entertaining series.
had so much fun reading this it was very good fun
Loved it! Very fun, engaging characters and a great story. I enjoyed it a lot. The only bad part is not having access to any of the chocolates they talk about and eat throughout the story.
This is a wonderful first in a series about a young woman who goes to a English town seeking information about who her real parents were and becomes involved in finding out who is killing off people in the town. She finds out she has latent abilities she never knew she had as her stay in the town lengthens out.
From the sudden appearance and just as suddenly disappearance of a old man the reader knows he/she is in for a magical experience!
The story line is intriguing and it moves along smoothly as it rushes to its conclusion with questions left unanswered because the perpetrator disappears as well! There is magic afoot and I would imagine he will be making future appearances until he is caught.
I recommend this book to all those who love a good cozy mystery regardless of age. If you are one who likes chocolate-well so much the better!
I recommend you have some available to snack on as you read this book for the chocolate mentioned herein will make you hungry!
I can’t begin to say how much I loved this book. With a birthday coming up I’m hoping to get the rest of the series.
Witty, inventive, funny and an intriguing story line. The characters were adorable, except for the girl that was granted a wart on her nose. Who wouldn’t love to do that to someone? LOL.
I felt it a shame to see the use of the words ‘vacation’ and ‘cell phone’ in an otherwise beautifully British book. The fact that British authors have to put a British English caveat at the start of their books… I’d better not say what I think about that! It’s where the language originated, and has to be virtually apologised for hmmmm.
All the little everyday happenings thrown in so creatively along the way in this story were a true delight. I was so very sad to reach the last page.
When I read ‘About The Author’ to find that she had spent so much time near my childhood home in the UK and now lives in Perth, Western Australia where I’ve lived for many years now, well I was really excited all over again. Hello from the Joondalup area if you read this HY. Amazingly wonderful book, and properly proofed (so rare these days) congratulations!
I liked this book a lot. Odd characters, good hearts and a central mystery to be solved. Unexpected happenings abound and fast moving story. Want to read next one NOW!!
Enjoyable paranormal. First of a witchy series.
I really liked this book. It’s the first one I have read from this author, but I look forward to many more.
