Loved the character’s. Keeps you guessing who is her real family. Liked how she learns she’s a witch, but wish they had had her do more magic. Such as when Angela ruined the carved sets of chocolate, have her replace it
Delightful whimsical mystery series set in magical mysterious English village with great characters and touch of paranormal and romance to make it fun. REALLY appreciate not having to wince through a story with bad language. Thank you Ms Hanna for a special place to escape to!
After the death of Caitlyn’s mom Barbara (an American singer), she receives a letter telling her that she was adopted. Barbara found her abandoned on the side of the road near a tiny English village with a runestone around her neck. Deciding to search for answers, Caitlyn heads to Tillyhenge against her cousin Pamona’s (Pomie) wishes. Apparently, Tillyhenge is famous for an ancient stone circle and Pomie suspects a town full of witches and magic.
Caitlyn gets a room in the only place available above a chocolate shop run by the Widow Mags, whom the town believes is a witch. Before Caitlyn knows it, she becomes wrapped in a murder mystery while trying to find out who she really is.
This is a whimsical paranormal cozy mystery filled with vibrant and enchanting characters, a playful mastiff, a great storyline, lots of twists and turns, and of course magic. The perfect makings of a delightful new series.
DW&C had a lot of potential, but it fell a little flat for me. Don’t get me wrong, three stars is still respectable. That’s a solid book, but it just didn’t wow me. It played into a lot of tropes I don’t enjoy/find a bit shallow, and the writing seemed a bit forced. I’m glad I read it, though.
I really enjoyed this series. A fun cozy mystery with magic and chocolate…what’s not to love? The author does an amazing job of writing fun characters and making your mouth water with the delectable descriptions of chocolate in the pages. Highly recommend to the cozy mystery lover.
I love, love, love, this new paranormal cozy mystery by H. Y. Hanna as much as I love, love, love Chocolate. My mouth watered the whole time while I was reading this delightful paranormal English cozy mystery which revolved around a shop called Bewitched by Chocolate. The descriptions of the Bewitched by Chocolate shop and its contents is so realistic that I had to take several breaks while reading to have a piece of chocolate.
Caitlyn is the main character who arrives in Tillyhenge to research her heritage after finding out she is adopted. Look for the cameo of the “old biddies” in Ms. Hanna’s Oxford Tearoom series as they pay a visit to Tillyhenge. The characters are well fleshed out with each having their own unique characteristic. My favorite was Victor, Caitlyn’s self appointed protector. I laughed out loud every scene he was in. Ms. Hanna’s writing is so good that as I was reading I felt like I was strolling throughout this quaint village, climbing the hills, and walking through the woods.
Ms. Hanna just made me a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries with this delightful witchy story and I thank her for sending me an ARC copy of “Dark, Witch & Creamy” to read. This did not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
“Dark, Witch, and Creamy” earns 5/5 Mouthwatering Chocolate Truffles Dusted with Cocoa! Yes! It’s that delicious of a tale!
I am so deliciously in love with this first book, “Dark, Witch, and Creamy,” from H. Y. Hanna’s new Bewitched by Chocolate Mystery series. Author of the very entertaining Oxford Tearoom Mysteries, she has once again written a clever, but ‘dark,’ mystery engaging at ever turn. Caitlyn shows strength and determination as her search for truths leads her to some quirky characters from an ancient guardian to the antagonistic village gossips. The writing is clear and realistic; you discover your mouth is really watering with every ‘creamy’ description of the chocolate delights. Is there a hint of a possible romance? Are there more secrets to uncover? The conclusion was a delightful “Oh my!” but offering a cliffhanger leaves you wanting more…
