Sam and Haley Quaid buried their ten-year-old son and then ended their marriage, all in one week. It wasn’t a volatile divorce, but three years later, except for trading Christmas cards, Sam and Haley have completely lost touch…until a dramatic weather report sets their paths on a collision course once more. Tropical Storm Gladys is heading straight toward coastal Texas, and locals are anxious … are anxious as they prepare for potential devastation. Haley, a Realtor, has an appointment to show a property and is determined to keep it, but a hurricane isn’t the only looming danger: news reports talk of two prisoners who’ve escaped from a nearby penitentiary only a few miles from the house Haley’s headed for.
When Sam’s phone rings with his ex-wife’s number, he immediately remembers the card he gave her when they parted on the courthouse steps. If you ever need me, call and I’ll be there. She hasn’t called in three years, and Sam is sure this can mean only one thing: Haley is in danger, and it’s up to him to save her.
With her trademark emotional intensity and breakneck pacing, Sharon Sala returns with a harrowing story of danger, loyalty and the lengths we’ll go to protect the people we love most.

With Sharon Sala books, I don’t need to read the back cover. I just put it in my cart to buy.
Another brilliantly written tale of drama by this author. Sharon has been on my ‘must read’ for many years now.
This couple had faced such a tragedy in their lives that it drove them apart. Still in love but too broken to reconnect, until desperation by Haley had her reaching out for help. A hurricane, a flooded town, a fall and if that wasn’t enough, trapped with escaped criminals in an empty house. Ex hubby to the rescue but was it over? So many suspenseful moments kept me intrigued. I read this entire book on this lazy Sunday afternoon and loved every moment.
Ever since I picked up King’s Ransom some 13 years ago, Sharon Sala has been my favorite romantic suspense author.
Dark Water Rising just might be my favorite book by this talented author to date.
Ms. Sala has the gifted ability to grab her fans from the 1st page and keep delivering nail-biting drama until the final sentence.
Sam and Haley Quaid weaved themselves into my heart and soul.
My heart went out to Haley and the tragic situation that nearly took her life.
I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to be tied up and held hostage during a hurricane while waters are rising and your kidnappers are escapees from
Prison.
A great and masterful plot as only Sharon Sala can deliver.
You always get a good story with Sharon Sala. Starting sad and ending uplifting. The thing I noticed about this book other than the story was how error free it was. Lately most of the books I have read are full of errors. Authors are getting ripped off by the proofreaders, big time!
Sam and Hailey have a past that caused them to walk away however due to seemingly random occurrences, they are set on the pathway to come together for a second chance for a future. This one kept the pages turning to find out what was going to happen next and how life unfolds.
Awesome book
A wonderful book with criminals, money, and love. One I didn’t want to put down!
This is another exciting romantic suspense by Sharon Sala, with a heroine who does what it takes to save herself. There’s also a wonderful, true hero, one who stands by his woman, and one we’d all love to keep as our own. Great characters. Good story.
Sam and Haley divorce after losing their son to leukemia. I hated that they divorced in a time when they should have held onto each other and helped each other through the grief of losing their child.
*She already knew that she would never be able to look at Sam again without seeing their son,
Her husband left a card saying to call her if she needed him. I felt the 3 years later crap was bullshit because all she had to do was call him. They were married, they had a child together, they lost a child, so I feel the separation was bull shit and could’ve been prevented.
Three years after losing a child and divorcing her husband, Tropical Storm Glady’s is coming. And, that’s when she looks at the number on the card and call her now ex husband. What made me mad was they separated when they should have stayed together. The real storm came through at the death of their child. Why couldn’t these characters deal with the heartache together and throw drama in with Glady’s storm? I didn’t like the characters or the plot.
From the opening of the story was a lot of character thoughts, their regrets, and so on. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the plot, beginning, middle, or end.
