637. That’s the number of children that have been taken in the last thirty years.
All taken by one person. He never leaves any evidence. He never leaves witnesses. He leaves only a name: Mr Panomie. And Panomie is far from human. Eddie is hired to solve the case and bring about an end to Panomie’s machinations. He delves into a world, in which magical creatures are in charge. But Eddie has … magical creatures are in charge. But Eddie has problems of his own.
Rachel is in prison but her curse is fighting to take control of Eddie’s mind. And it’s getting stronger. Each time Eddie gives in to the dark urges the curse gains more ground and he becomes more monstrous. With the darkness inside him rapidly growing he has to figure out a way to cure himself before he becomes worse than Rachel ever was. But it’s getting harder to tell the difference between what’s him and what’s the darkness.

Eddie is now working with police helping to solve the case of missing children. He continues to struggle with the curse of darkness and figuring out what is him and what is the darkness. While this story is of darker nature, there is a bit of fun to it. You can probably listen to this story as a stand alone. While we get characters (Ashley and Inspector Richards) from the previous books, we get a new story line complete with gnomes, mystery, imps, ghosts, black markets, fairy realm, the defunct supernatural investigations team, the new SIT of sorts, and plenty more.
This book certainly brings the series to the next level in many ways. I look forward to the next and what’s in store for Eddie.
“But my grandmother always said we shouldn’t let the trouble of the past stop us from doing what’s right in the present.”
“One thing I admire about children is their lack of respect for social rules. If they have a question they just ask it. If adults did that the world would be a much simpler place.”
“My instinct was to shut the kid in a cupboard but I knew that wasn’t the right way to react to a bit of attitude.”

This is the third book in the Arcane Inc. series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending. You can certainly start with this book but I would strongly recommend that you start with the first book in the series “Warlock for Hire” so you can truly get a feel for the MC Eddie Lancaster.
Here, Eddie is hired to look into a case where children are being kidnapped. There’s a common thread – the name Mr. Panomie but who or what is it? Eddie works with law enforcement to solve a case where over 600 children have disappeared over the past few decades. On top of this, Eddie is still battling with his dark side.
Without a doubt, Eddie grows quite a bit in this book. He is still snarky and dismissive of other people’s feelings but at least he is now starting to realize that he can cause pain. He is also battling with himself over his dark side and whether he can give up his dark side. I love the humor in this series – from his landlord and son antics to dealing with the police to going to his favorite pub. I love this series and highly recommend it!!
I listened to this book – Every once in a while, you see an actor portray a character in a movie and it’s magic – Marlon Brando in
The Godfather or Kathy Bates in Misery come to mind. Same can be
said here – Hannibal Hills is completely magic in his narration of Eddie Lancaster and this series. He absolutely enhances the written word and makes
this series so fun!

This is the third book in the series but the first one I’ve listened to! What a treat it was!!! The story has it all, a dark cursed warlock, gnomes, Imps, a secret paranormal investigation team, a human police investigator mixed up in the middle of all of it. I just loved it. Eddie, well want to say about Eddie, he really is the extreme, kinda sweet one minute and a first rate jerk the next but you can’t help but love him. This was one of the most entertaining books I’ve listened to in quite some time. Hannibal Hills was freaking awesome with the narration. Can’t wait to go back and get the first two to see how this all started
Audiobook review: Dark Warlock is an entertaining adventure of a warlock charged with finding a missing child and encounters more of a world than he realized existed. The storyline is entertaining with plenty of action and banter. You’ll either love or dislike the Warlock as he definitely can come off as a bit of a sarcastic rompus. The narrator did a good job! I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
