In an explosive novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a human woman ignites the desire of her Carpathian lifemate—and of an ancient vampire with a score to settle. After the devastating loss of her entire family, Lorraine Peters heads to the woods searching for peace of mind and anything to quell the anger in her soul. Instead, she stumbles upon a scene of horrific … a scene of horrific violence, as one man lies helpless in the face of three attackers.
Andor Katona’s existence has been a harsh one, living for centuries as a monk in the Carpathian Mountains. Unable to find his lifemate, he almost welcomes his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of the vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. That is, until a whirling ball of fury bursts onto the scene, determined to save him.
In one glimpse, in one breath, Andor recognizes Lorraine as his lifemate, but it will take more than their telepathic connection to convince her of their immortal bond. Lorraine is a lethal combination of cunning and courage. So much so that she captures the attention of a master vampire, one who has already lost what was once irreplaceable to him. One who will strike with deadly precision at Andor and his ancient Carpathian comrades in a war to end all wars. . .

I have never and I mean never, fallen as immediately in love with a female character as I did with Lorraine.
From the moment that Lorraine stepped onto the scene, she owned this book for me.
So many times I found myself laughing and cheering her on. Not that there weren’t moments where I thought ‘Oh, crap…something bad this way be coming,’ and ‘oh crap, that is not going to end well.’
For me, this book had everything that I love about paranormal romance: heat, humor, action, romance and drama with supernatural elements.
The ‘Dark’ Carpathian series is a long standing favorite of mine that I’ve been reading for well over ten years now.
I have loved watching the characters fall in love as the Carpathian world grew and evolved.
I was invested in the world and watched and cheered as the Carpathian race struggled to survive from the brink of extinction, watching as they learned secrets and hidden truths and lies, and always, always falling more and more in love with the series as each book brought more characters to vivid life.
I have adored every single book in this series and look forward to, hopefully, reading many more to come.
I’m particularly enjoying this new underlying evil arc in the latest books in the ‘Dark’ Carpathian series.
And if you’re reading this review and you’ve never read any of the books in the series before, don’t stress, every book in the series is a standalone, but probably better enjoyed reading the series as a whole.
Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this book. Lorrane and Andor were a really neat couple. Lorraine was so brave and yet so vulnerable. Andor was so understanding and willing to grow in his way of thinking. They were also really funny together. I also loved getting to know more of the ancients in this book. I am looking forward to starting the next Dark book.
I have enjoyed reading all the books to date in the Dark series written by Christine Feehan. This book is no exception. Lorraine (Andor’s lifemate) is a “warrior” female who’s not afraid to speak her mind and fight alongside her lifemate. Excellent read. Highly recommend it.
I love this series, just not this particular book
Amazing, one of my favorite for her “Dark” books
Dark Sentinel is Christine Feehan’s 28th book of the Dark Carpathian series. It is an explosive story about Lorraine Peters, whose telepathy sends her to rescue Andor Katona after he was gravely injured by bumbling attackers. Andor’s existence has been long and harsh, and he’s weary. Unable to find his lifemate, he decides to welcome his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. Then he hears her, sees her, and his dull, grey world burst into colors and emotions. He must live—for her.
Lorraine is Beta to Andor’s Alpha. Together they make a lethal team to fight against a master vampire. Dark Sentinel is a stand-alone book, but it will help readers to familiarize with other dark Carpathian books to understand the Carpathian culture and customs. Believe me, it will be worth it. Dark Sentinel is a dark story about light vs dark, evil vs good. There are hot, hot sexy scenes. Christine Feehan is a powerful storyteller who takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster ride along with Andor and Lorraine in their fight for survival. Whew, what a ride! I look forward to the next wild ride in Christine Feehan’s Dark Illusion.
I loved meeting Lorraine and Andor.
As we’ve come to expect over the years, Christine delivers heat, humour and passion with her Dark Series and I’m glad that at least here, bdsm hasn’t crept in.
The Ancient Carpathians are kind of lost and out of touch with the modern world, too many battles with vampires.
I’m giving nothing away but will say, if you want to see some new twists and turns and the introduction of a new kick-arse female then, this is the one for you.
I don’t know how Christine Feehan does it. I have read all of her Dark series and she keeps coming up with new twists for the plot. This novel focuses on one of the Ancient Carpathians, Andor Katona and his lifemate Lorraine Peters. The story opens with Andor staked out and debating whether or not it is worth it to live or if he should give up before he turns vampire. After a battle in which he defeated 7 vampires and has suffered mortal wounds, he is staked by human vampire hunters while he is weakened. Then a hurricane of a woman attacks the humans and comes to his rescue. When he recognizes that she is his lifemate, he knows that he cannot give up. Now the challenge is how to convince this modern woman that she is his destined lifemate.
Always like Feehan since I read the first Dark book. It’s still my favorite of her various series. Somehow, even using the same tropes, she manages to add freshness here and there.
It was a good book I have read a lot of her books
all of this authors books are really great love to read them over and over
I really love this series. You would think after so many stories there would be the . same type of things happening but they don’t. I hate trying to write a review because I don’t have the ability to express my thoughts of how much I like these books adequately! As long as the sequels keep coming out I’ll keep reading them!!
I should state for the record I am a big fan of the Dark series and have read every single one – and I might also own them all- for the record
This release follows with the new “generation” of Carpathians who are settling in the united states as well as the Ancients, who I enjoy so much, who are also relocating.
Loraine – I got an absolute kick out of her – She is seeking her “Zen” trying to control her compulsion to anger first, ask questions second – Have to say she isn’t doing so well. My heart feels for her at times but darn if she doesn’t pull herself through (do not want to give plotlines). She is battling her past and her own feelings of inadequacy when she happens upon a murder in progress – well can’t let that happen – IMO no matter how much “zen’ing” she attempts she will always jump head first into the fray of things.
Then we have Andor – Andor is like most of the ancients he has lived a long life and is contemplating facing the sun, passing into the next life with honor. That is until when he is at death’s door and his world lights up with color – now he is fighting to survive for his lifemate.
A sweet romance that gave me the warm fuzzies- not a whole lot of “OMG” moments. Steady pace, easy to follow.
I do sort of miss the action we experienced in the earlier releases and some of the original characters, but I get that we must move forward (kind of like the Carpathians it is time to embrace the new era). Quick mention – we get to see one of the future couples and I have to say I am very excited to read their story.
Great book
I have all herbooks, and love all up them
Great book!
In general a good book until the end, story just abruptly ended without offering even a teaser that more was to come in future books. Several characters were introduced and I hope something will follow. Felt the author abandoned here reader. The ending choked what would have and should have been a great book. Was as if the authors came to her word quota and just quit writing. I don’t want or enjoy cliffhangers. Feehan’s last few books have left a similar feeling and I am so disappointed and discouraged, I used to anxiously anticipate all her books but I am really turned off at this point. If a reader is new to her books they will probably enjoy, ive followed Christine for years and expect better and more.
I really enjoy this series; but (there is always a but) for me I am truly sick of the chapter long sex scene’s. She does a wonderful job of making these character’s and world come alive; I just wish that half the book was not taken up with detailed sex. More action would be nice. I hate bringing up cost; but when a book is 1/2 sex I do feel cheated. I understand writing a book takes a lot and they (authors) need to make a living; but again less details on the bedroom activities. My tiny 2 cents.
.I really liked the book, especially the fact there were characters from the past books in it. The only think I didn’t like was the ending. It was very abrupt and several things were left hanging. It’s a series, but its not a serial. Seemed very cut off. I guess i’ll just have to wait until the next one, but let’s hope it comes soon
Always like this authors wor
