A decade ago, 18-year-old Hannah Docherty was arrested for the shocking murder of her family. It was an open-and-shut case, and Hannah has been incarcerated in a secure psychiatric hospital ever since.
When psychotherapist Frieda Klein is asked to meet Hannah and give her assessment, she reluctantly agrees. But what she finds horrifies her. Hannah has become a tragic figure, old before her time. And Frieda is haunted by the idea that Hannah might be as much of a victim as her family — that she might, in fact, be innocent.
As Hannah’s case takes hold of her, Frieda begins to realize that she’s up against someone who will go to any lengths to keep the truth from surfacing — even kill again.
Utterly compelling and enthralling, Dark Saturday speeds readers down a twisting trail of secrets, suspense, and murder.

I love this series. The main protagonists captures you from the start. I don’t recommend reading these books out of sequence though.
4 stars for a dark, intricate mystery. Psychotherapist Frieda Klein is asked to meet with a woman convicted of murdering her family 13 years ago. She reluctantly agrees because Walter Levin had done her a very big favor in the past and she owes him. She does meet with Hannah Docherty and realizes that there are holes in the case against Hannah. Frieda slowly peels back the complexities of the case to find out what really happened. The real killer is desperate to keep this buried and kills more people to do so. This book 6 in the series and the relationship between Frieda and Walter was explained sufficiently for me to enjoy this book as a stand alone. However, it would probably be better to read the series in order.
The author bio explains that the author name is a pen name of Nicci Gerrard and Sean French, a husband-wife team.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thank You William Morrow/Harper Collins and the authors.
I won a copy of this from a Goodreads Giveaway
Thirteen years ago Hannah Docherty’s entire family was murdered and she is locked away in a mental hospital. Therapist Freida Klein does not think that Hannah is the killer and is asking a lot of questions about the handling of the case. This story was full of twists and turns and hard to figure out who did what, it kept my attention. I wish I read the prior books in this series so that I would have understood Freida’s history better, but this was very good.
Intriguing
I won a copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was not required to give a favorable review. This was a very intense book. When a teenage girl is accused of killing her mother, step-father & little brother she is put into a state hospital for the criminally insane. But years later the police officer who led the case is now be review for doing things wrong. Dr. Klein has been asked to look into it. But what happens has many twist and turns. I enjoyed this book.
I started this series in the middle and now I’m anxious to start from the beginning. Great group of characters brought together in these stories. Love the psychological aspect.
I know some of you have been fans of the Frieda Klein series of which this is book #6, but this is the first one I picked up and loved it. Now I have to start the series from book #1. Lucky me.
could not put it down. Read all night
Slow start but an engrossing tale
I love this series. Frieda Klein is a great character.
I love the entire series… can’t wait until new ones comes out. They are good reads and do surprise!
I like Noci French’s characters, especially Frieda Klein. Her dialogue is ironic, witty and thoughtful, even as the dark, dark plot draws you closer to a tragic, unanticipated ending. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed the carachters. Want to read the other books in the series now. 🙂
I love this genre and this was a great example of it well done
