Harry Bosch teams up with LAPD Detective Renée Ballard in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.Detective Renée Ballard is working the night beat–known in LAPD slang as “the late show”–and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that … Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin.
Ballard can’t let him go through department records, but when he leaves, she looks into the case herself and feels a deep tug of empathy and anger. She has never been the kind of cop who leaves the job behind at the end of her shift–and she wants in.
The murder, unsolved, was of fifteen-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally killed, her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now Ballard joins forces with Bosch to find out what happened to Daisy, and to finally bring her killer to justice. Along the way, the two detectives forge a fragile trust, but this new partnership is put to the test when the case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn.
Dark Sacred Night for the first time brings together these two powerhouse detectives in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. And it shows once more why “there’s no doubt Connelly is a master of crime fiction” (Associated Press).

Michael Connelly is one of my favorite authors and never fails to disappoint. I loved The Late Show and the introduction of Renee Ballard, and teamed up with Harry Bosch is just perfect. He is a gritty seasoned cop and she is working it out, after department politics put her on the back burner for advancement.
They team up on a cold case Harry has been working on, while he continues his auxiliary work with the San Fernando PD, and she on the night shift of LAPD’s Hollywood division.
Harry is aging and I hope Connelly is making it a slow process, because
I’m not through reading his great stories. Love the Amazon series also!
Not as enjoyable as other Connelly books. Took awhile to get into the story. The second half picked up and was enjoyable.
I love the way Michael Connelly has joined Ballard and Bosch.
Another great Bosch story from Connelly.
top-notch writer
Haven’t read a book of his I haven’t liked.
Good Harry Bosch. Looks like he may have found a working partner.
Michael Connelly knows Harry Bosch inside and out. I always feel a little short of breath reading about Bosch, but I keep going back for more.
Another great Harry Bosch book with Renee Ballard added in to great effect.
Meh!
A real page turner.
I have read all of Connelly’s books – for a reason. They are simply the best crime, mystery novels around. I like many others like: LInda Barnes, Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton, but Connelly is the gold standard.
This one introduced two of Michael’s characters, one old and one new, to each other. Bosch and Banner, while coming from different worlds, work well together. This seems to provide an avenue for an aging, retired cop with one who has great potential. t will keep the cornerstone Harry Bosch legend alive in future novels.
Just finished this book. Both Renee Balland and Harry Bosch figure as characters in this new book. It kept me guessing until the end. I really enjoy this series. I feel like I know these characters and the places they occupy and didn’t want the story to end.
Love the Harry Bosch series. I’ve read them all.
I love all Michael Connelly books featuring Harry Bosch
Love all the Bosch books
Not his best. But worth reading
Though my original copy was incomplete and the others on the shelf also misprints, Michael Connelly’s people sent me a good copy tout suite. Thanks again!
Harry Bosch teams up with Renee Ballard on a cold case of the murder of 15 year old runaway Daisy. Twists and turns in the plot kept me fascinated. 5 star Suspense. .
