Harry Bosch teams up with LAPD Detective Renée Ballard in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.Detective Renée Ballard is working the night beat–known in LAPD slang as “the late show”–and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that … Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin.
Ballard can’t let him go through department records, but when he leaves, she looks into the case herself and feels a deep tug of empathy and anger. She has never been the kind of cop who leaves the job behind at the end of her shift–and she wants in.
The murder, unsolved, was of fifteen-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally killed, her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now Ballard joins forces with Bosch to find out what happened to Daisy, and to finally bring her killer to justice. Along the way, the two detectives forge a fragile trust, but this new partnership is put to the test when the case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn.
Dark Sacred Night for the first time brings together these two powerhouse detectives in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. And it shows once more why “there’s no doubt Connelly is a master of crime fiction” (Associated Press).

Great book, as usual by my favorite author!
Love anything by this author, I never tire of his books
I have read everything he has wrote. One of. My favorite authors and can’t wait the next book comes out.
What can I say? I’m a Harry Bosch fan. A big fan.
Another great read from Michael.
Connelly’s refreshing Renee Ballard and legendary Harry Bosch make an engaging duo. Young detective Ballard, one of few authentic women in the genre, meets older but timeless Bosch in a clever, entertaining plot. They form a special bond rooted in mutual competence and forensic insight.
Michael Connolly is the best crime fiction author today. His books and characters are always extremely interesting. I read everything he writes as they never fail to be excellent books.
He always comes through with a great story Can’t wait for the next book
One of my favourite authors – does not disappoint.
Michael C.’s books never fail to entertain me. He’s an amazing writer and his plots are complex twisted tales. I love the introduction of a female protagonist and hope to see more of her. The Amazon TV series spoiled my image of Bosch–In my mind, Bosch looks nothing like the actor chosen to portrait him–but nothing can spoil my enjoyed of this author’s work.
Readers looking for a gritty window into the life of an LAPD homicide detective will enjoy this latest novel by Michael Connelly. The office politics and day-to-day hassles of working in that gritty environment make the setting and its characters come to life. Connelly’s approach is reminiscent of a television series as the plot is littered with smaller homicide investigations on a day-to-day basis, some of which are only tenuously linked to the ongoing storyline. While I liked the main character, Renée Ballard, there was very little in terms of story goal for her outside of solving the case. The novel’s main focus was her cold-case investigation, however, while this was exciting, it was less interesting than the largely unrelated parallel plot which featured the shooting of a gang informant which added a sense of urgency to the story.
Books by Connelly are consistantly good but the combination of Ballard and Bosch is a winner.
The personal dynamics and storyline
hook and reels you in and before you know it reading before going to bed turns into reading all night.
Michael C. has great characters and makes them’ come alive’ from the pages. I am a HUGE fan.
Harry Bosch is always good
Have never been disappointed in a Connelly book
Another Great Connelly book!! I have read everything he has written!!
Watch out world–Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard are teaming up to solve cold cases with or without the help of LAPD. Will they only bend the law? or will one of them step over the line? Renee gets involved in an old case that Harry is working on, and they end up figuring things out after a few false starts. Harry gets fired again, but they both survive.
I love the Bosch series. Love that they bring in new characters to go forward with.
Excellent series.
Harry Bosch is one of the greatest detective characters ever!! Connelly is a Master!!
