Harry Bosch teams up with LAPD Detective Renée Ballard in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.Detective Renée Ballard is working the night beat–known in LAPD slang as “the late show”–and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that … Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin.
Ballard can’t let him go through department records, but when he leaves, she looks into the case herself and feels a deep tug of empathy and anger. She has never been the kind of cop who leaves the job behind at the end of her shift–and she wants in.
The murder, unsolved, was of fifteen-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally killed, her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now Ballard joins forces with Bosch to find out what happened to Daisy, and to finally bring her killer to justice. Along the way, the two detectives forge a fragile trust, but this new partnership is put to the test when the case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn.
Dark Sacred Night for the first time brings together these two powerhouse detectives in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. And it shows once more why “there’s no doubt Connelly is a master of crime fiction” (Associated Press).

Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard are an awesome combination! Just READ it!! You will not be disappointed!
Renee Ballard is a wonderful new character; all the dedication ofHarry Bosch with a little more regard for the rules, and with a very unusual background and lifestyle. More, more, more!
Bosch is a great character.
Renee Ballard’s pretty good, too. I hope we get more books with the two of them.
This novel was adapted for the TV series, though the Ballard bits are either absent or mostly done by Bosch. A very entertaining read (or listen, in my case) with a terrific build-up of suspense to the end.
I love Bosch and Ballard. I’ve read all his books (except the latest one that just came out) and this is as solid as ever. Audacious plot that was set up at the end of the last Bosch novel when he finds out about Daisy Clayton having been murdered and on the cold case list. It gets under his skin and he gets under Renee Ballard’s skin. Great team-up of two enticing characters who are different in style but similar in substance.
I did’t find it as good as The Late Show. It had several spots where it moved slowly. OK if you’re a fan of Michael Connelly.
Please, please. No more novels with this women detective. Terrible Connelly attempt.
Could not finish!!!
Love Michael Connelly great writer, and realistic plots
Great book! Two of my favorite characters working together to make the world a better, safer place.
Not much that hasn’t been said already about Mr. Connelly. If you want a fast-paced page turner, you need to read this book.
Love anything Michael Connelly writes!
HUGE fan of Michael Connelly and this book definitely did not miss. Love the characters, love the writing and especially love that I cannot figure who the bad guy is (and why) until it is revealed at the end of the book.
I like anything by Michael Connelly, he is real good!
I have read all the Bosch novels and most rated 5. This is first #3. Story line okay but some of the elements are too outrageous, even by Bosch standards.
Another good author.
Great characters!
Connelly is fantastic writer that draws you in! The whole Bosch series is worth the ride!
I’ve never been disappointed in any of his books. I devour them in one reading.
Detective Bosch with a new partner. Both are champions for justice
