Andrusha’s story!
Dancer Olivia Childs is in witness protection but even the police don’t know if she will be alive for the trial. Ivan Bunko is in jail awaiting trial for murder but his gang is trying to get rid of all the competition and control Vancouver when Andrusha Sokolov tries to prevent the bloodshed. Andrusha is the head of the Russian mafia and he knows that keeping Olivia safe will keep Bunko in jail and the police away from his business since not all of his business is legal. Andrusha know that his interests will be too much for Olivia to handle but when she starts to challenge him, he still wants to protect her.
Andrusha Sokolov first appeared in The Penalty Box as a childhood friend of Mica Petrov and current head of the Russian mafia in Vancouver helping to protect Charlie but he’s an interesting character to read in the book because he’s not as he appears.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Dark Russian Angel is sexy and action-packed. I loved seeing characters from Odette’s previous books. If you are into mafia romances this is a great pick!
***I am a part of Odette Stone’s ARC Team. This in no way affects my review or rating.
I love anything Odette Stone and this one did not disappoint. A new story about a character we have met before and I love him as much as her other men! Great romance with juicy bits makes for a really enjoyable read!
Dark Russian Angel is a mafia spin-off of Stone’s Vancouver Wolves hockey series. Andrusha is the reluctant hero, and he is old friends with Mica the hero from the most recent hockey book (The Penalty Box). The heroine is Olivia. She is a new character to the series, but you will fall for her quickly. A forced into retirement dancer turned stripper who is the witness to a murder. She’s the star witness to put away a crime boss, and now they are out to get her. Andrusha doesn’t want to get wrapped up in the mess, but Olivia sort of falls right into his lap. This story is a wild ride. Of not knowing who to trust, who is truly a bad guy, and what the heck is actually going on in the Vancouver crime underground. I’d say that this one is more of a romantic suspense. The hockey books have all had a bit of suspense in them, but this one takes it to the next level. The mafia aspect isn’t too in depth, but it’s also done well. The romance is slow-burn, but once it heats up it is hot. All in all this was a great read, and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Stone gives us next!
This book was so sweet. I thought, based on Andrusha’s background and the cover, it would be darker, but it was so super sweet.
And Olivia. She’s a dancer. She’s the light Andrusha never knew he’d been searching for. And she’s just what Sasha needed, too, that silly pup.
They’re different, so different, but they have their love and they’re doing the right thing – Andrusha the Protector and Olivia the Dancer.
I appreciate that they weren’t insta-love. They needed to understand each other because mistakes at this time could cost them everyone everything.
I love their development through their trials. I love the trust between them.
Absolutely wonderful.
I could not stop reading from the 1st page. Andrusha is a fearless strong alpha Male and falls for sweet, defenseless Olivia. She brings him to life. Makes him question why hes in the underworld, and can only dream of the life he wants. Olivia from the get go scares his dreams to life, by being there for him even when shes in danger.
I’ve been wondering about Andrusha since he was introduced in The Penalty Box (totally not necessary to read that book first to be able to enjoy this one – but it’s AMAZING, so why wouldn’t you?!). This was everything I had hoped for and more. Great read!!
This was very different from Odette other books in that it had a lot more suspense. Like her other books it was well written and her chemistry between characters is top notch. She’s definitely one of those authors I buy automatically. My only issue with this book is that the ends didn’t get tied up completely and it was a little vague on what happened to characters like Vlad – I really wanted Andrusha to confront him and Vlad get what was coming but that was taken care of in an unsatisfying way (IMHO). Also after all the build up, I’m not sure what happened to Bunko was believable. But these were minor as the book was overall well written and an enjoyable read!
This is my first book by Odette and I am in love with Andrusha. Danger, dark, action, lies, deception, alpha male & hotness overload. Sexy mafia men galore. I’m so glad they were able to overcome their obstacles. Page turning good. Looking forward to more books by Odette.
Action-packed, complex and interesting, this mafia romance is worlds away from Odette Stone’s hockey series, but still features the same great writing. It took me a little while to get into this one – Andrusha is not the typical romance “hero” and his lifestyle is anything but typical – but the mysterious, seductive romance drew me in as the story progressed. Andrusha may be a cold, hard man with a penchant for control, but with Olivia he is protective, tender, and downright loving. If you’re looking for a read that’s a little different from the norm, this is certainly worth a try.
The story follows Olivia, a dancer turned stripper who has had a string of bad luck leading her to a life so unlike the one that was once in reach. After witnessing a murder, she’s now in protective custody but the cops can’t be relied on to keep her safe. Enter Andrusha, a Russian mafia boss who wants to keep Olivia alive long enough to testify – so that she can put his enemy away. But something about Olivia draws him in, and it becomes more and more difficult to let her go. Given the choice between death and a chance at survival, Olivia is willing to put her life in Andrusha’s hands, no matter the cost.
It’s a dark romance that focuses quite a bit on the grittier parts of the mafia world, but the relationship between Andrusha and Olivia remains pretty light. There are triggers galore here so keep that in mind while reading, but I loved the relationship that slowly builds between these two. Andrusha doesn’t make the best first impression, and I was wary of his sexual preferences, but ultimately none of that stood in the way of the creation of a really great relationship. There’s plenty of action and suspense, but also a solid focus on the romance which made for an intriguing combination. I really enjoyed the direction it took towards the end and now I’m hooked on wanting to find out what’s next for some of these characters.
