Constant action in this thriller. Leine Brasso, a former assassin, now works for SHEN. SHEN is an organization the works to free children from human trafficking. Lenine ends up going to Tripoli. She runs into a street smart kid, Jinn, she offers to help find her family. There are dangerous human traffickers that will kill to keep their business. A refugee camp for children is supposed to keep them safe, but there in underling danger there.
Leine Basso is a character I can’t get enough of. Dark Return has her thwarting evil in a most suspenseful story.
This series just keeps getting better and better. All of D.V. Berkrom’s books are gripping, thrilling and full of action. The excellence in the writing is immediately apparent in the way the stories just grab you and keep you embraced and enthralled until the very last word. The characters and the story are all well developed and easy to follow, flowing at a pace that keeps your blood pumping and not wanting to put it down. There is always mystery and suspense, and let me also tell you that this book is not “the same as all the rest,” it is strong and holds its own. Believable in all the areas it touches, the main character, a former assassin takes you to worlds and places that allow you to put yourself there as well. No spoilers here, just know that whether this is your first Leine Basso book or the 6th, you will enjoy this no matter. This book kept my Kindle pages flipping keeping me up way past my bedtime. I am looking forward to the next Leine Basso story. This book, as the others does NOT disappoint!
A total thriller that keeps you wanting to read more. Leine Basso comes back in full force that keeps you intrigued. A new character is introduced in this story , Jinn, that Basso saves when she is working for SHEN. Can’t wait for the next book to come out.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Dark Return by D. V. Berkom is one of the best Leine Basso stories to date. It has a child’s undying love for her. It tells of an old friend’s treachery and another friend’s loyalty. It also tells how another person wants to start a holy war in many countries at one time. If I’m not mistaken we will see the return of “The Leopard” in the next story. I received this story for an honest review and I’m positive you will enjoy reading this story.

This is another Leine Basso thriller that keeps you wondering what will happen next. This episode is a little different from previous books in the series, as Leine goes dark (like in the title). While she is off the grid Leine has no rules to hold her back in achieving her mission. So, look out as she unleashes her old assassin dark side (other meaning in the title).
Leone Basso goes full throttle and you are just along for the ride. If you can keep up with her, she will show you how to obtain justice for those that have been wronged. Fast paced thriller.
The best Leine Basso to date. Could not put it down. If your reading runs to action, suspense, drama I highly recommend D. V. Berkom & Leine Basso.
Pure brilliance. I loved this book; one of my favorites that I’ve read this year. Jinn is my new superhero. Dark Return was a thrill-a-minute, page-turning suspense that never lets up with action and intrigue. The author, DV Berkom, is a master when it comes to character development and the storyline. There were even moments when I was teary-eyed in some of the scenes.
I hope the next book in the Leine Basso thrillers comes out soon!
Another great Leine Basso thriller. Look forward to the next one
A typical adventure for Leine Basso well written by DV Berkom. Leine is difficult to control and has her own way of solving a problem. Always doing right for innocent people in bad situations. As usual an enjoyable read. I am looking forward to hearing from Leine and any other of Ms. Berkom’s characters.
One of the best reads to come out in this genre in quite awhile. You won’t want to put this book down.
With so many assassin-based books on the market, it’s hard to get excited about another one, but having enjoyed previous Leine Basso thrillers, I started on this one as soon as I could. And – I couldn’t put it down. My entire Saturday has been spent reading Dark Return.
You don’t know what’s coming next – there are surprises after surprises. There are characters who are familiar from previous books, but this one definitely stands alone – though you may want to go back and read any earlier Leine Basso novels that you’ve missed.
Alliances, terrorism, humanitarian causes … trust and caring among all the deception and uncertainty. Leine will keep your interest throughout. The only problem is that it ended – and now I have to wait impatiently for the next one to be written.
DARK RETURN by D V Berkom
Leine Basso had no regrets looking at the dead man, one down, more to go. She was one person against the sale of human beings.
SHEN organization she works for, wanting her to go to Tunisani, children under ten. Before leaving she rescues Jinn, a young girl living on the streets, pick pocket an item, she’s in danger now. Someone wants them dead, and Leine is injured. Plans went terrible wrong, would they get rescued. Leine has a mission, would it ever stop, for her to have a life. I enjoy her books, you meet the main characterizes, you feel like you know them personally. The story flows taking you on a ride you won’t forget. Leine made a close friend with Jinn, but lost some others she had worked with. Each book is better than the last, and readers won’t want to miss. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed the strong character of the heroine. the characters in this book have been fleshed out so that they are very realistic I’m very impressed with this writer’s work and I look forward to reading more of the same type novels
Very good, couldn’t put in down.
It should have been better. I stopped reading 3/4 of the way through. Poor story and plot development and pacing.
Another writer that writes about a superhero who cannot be stopped even though they are wounded
