Would you face down a serial killer to save your brother?Kyra is already undercover in the murder-capital of the country, and she prefers to go it alone. When she stumbles on a plot to kill most of the city’s cops, she has a decision to make. After shouting her warning at a handsome random detective, she’s sure that will be the end of it. Until the same detective shows up at her employer’s … same detective shows up at her employer’s estate…where there happens to be a dead body in the pool.
But that’s not the only corpse in this city. Prostitutes keep turning up dead, and Kyra suspects everything is connected. If she can’t figure out how, more than one person might disappear into these shadowy alleys, and never be seen again…
If you love, dark, gritty urban reality, complete with clandestine serial killers and brooding detectives, you’ll want to join Kyra and Gabe on this pulse-pounding sprint through Abstreuse City. Because darkness lurks in us all.
“On the edge of my seat the whole time! Chilling view of darker side of the city. Kyra is tough and intelligent. I highly recommend it!”

Lovin’ that eye on the cover and it makes me feel like someone is watching me.Could it be the female protagonist, Kyra, or Gabe, the detective? Well, I say we all hook up and do some sleuthing.
Abstreuse City is a very dangerous place. L K Hill does a great job describing it. the homeless, the garbage, the smells and the dark, the pimps and the prostitutes.
Kyra and Gabe’s path collide when she finds out about a plan to turn the cops raid of a drug house into a slaughter house. She knew she had to intervene. And…could they be looking for the same person?
I’m not sure who Kyra is looking for, or why she is so curious about the dead prostitute, but I will find out.
I wasn’t sure if this would grab me like it did with the funny names, like Slip Mire, but I quickly got involved. Dark Remnants is fast paced and action packed, just the way I like it.
Kyra is hard as nails and quick on her feet, yet able to win the trust of others. She is able to read people, using it to her advantage. She looked like a junkie, from her spiky black hair to her black clothes with the hoodie and the track marks inside her elbows. Her eyes are so blue you couldn’t overlook them and she wears makeup to create a sickly pallor. She does no whining and crying, just has an intense desire to get the job done. Love a strong female character!
I love it!

I have read several of this authors books and this is a bit different from what I have read. I really enjoyed the story and hope more is to come. The narrator did an awesome job with the entire story. The story was well written and kept my interest throughout. The plot kept you guessing a bit, and there was a big lead into another book if I ever saw one.

I enjoyed this book very much. The story line moves quick enough to keep my interest, yet doesn’t rush. I hope to enjoy the next book in this series soon. I also enjoyed that even though many of the characters are gang members, pimps, prostitutes, druggies, etc. the language has been kept clean. I enjoyed the interactions between Kyra, Supra, Tonya, and Gabe. The author has done a remarkable job and I’m sure she had some laughs while writing these characters.
This is a shorter, quick read as an introduction to the series but an awesome story in its own right. Just because it is short does not mean it is not fully action-packed with awesome characters. This series (my opinion based on this book) is engrossing and will lead you to want to hurry and get the next book in the series. Another awesome series by this author.

An intriguing story but left on a cliffhanger. There was no major breakthroughs other then the cop figuring out who Supra is. I love the direction this story is going and all the mystery that keeps the storyline going but With so many things up in the air I have to say I’m disappointed that’s something more wasn’t given to make the story the little extra to give it all the stars. A slow unfold mystery with tons of angles will keep you wanting more. I hope that in the second one there will be more of a delivery but the book overall kept
My attention as I drove across Texas and into Oklahoma. The narrator is good. There are moments of going so much above and beyond that it feels more like something your actually there to hear instead of just some one reading. The running scene was amazing!
This was a really good story and I enjoyed listening to it! The characters are well developed (my pet peeve!) and interesting. The story world was interesting and believable. The reading flowed smoothly along and kept me engrossed in the story – the narrator was excellent! I definitely recommend this story!

It was a little hard to follow and keep my interest. I’m not sure why that was. The story was a decent mystery story. I’m not a fan of books that don’t tie up any of the story until you read the next book or several books. It got a little confusing with 4 plots in the one book.
A cat & mouse story line… kept me entertained. I will definitely be looking for the 2nd book. I listened to this one in 2 sitting (cleaning house & in the car). The characters come alive & make you want to know more.
Good action-packed read with a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Interesting characters and intriguing mysteries; when Kyra Roberts and Gabe Nichols paths collide on the dark streets of Abstreuse City, they find themselves in a fight not only for answers to these mysteries, but also for their lives. Great narration.
Really a very good & well written book! Listening was joy! Now I will read the book as well! Engaging is the word that comes t mind to describe this book. I keeps the listener on edge waitng for more all the way to the end!
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for an honest review. The MC has a smart and sassy take no prisoners street smart side, then presto she has another persona. They just both happen to end before a police detective in less than a week. He receives aid from both of her aliases within a week, will he figure out they are the same person? Listen to a very witty crime story to find out the answer, I recommend this story.
I’ve loved some of L. K. Hill’s other books. Dark Remnants had great potential. But, I don’t feel it reached the level of her other books. The book ended without any closure. Maybe the next book will redeem the series.
I really liked the Main Character and her personality. She is one tough cookie and goes through a lot other people would give up and walk away from. Narrator did a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. I wish the next book was already available on Audible because I want to continue this story.
You’ll want to purchase next book for a conclusion to the various mysteries started in this book.
A thrilling adventure. Wonderful characters and an intriguing and exciting storyline filled with action and mystery. A great start to a suspenseful series that draws you in and makes you part of their world. The first part of a much bigger picture.

My sixth read from author L.K. Hill. The opening pages take off like a fighter from an aircraft carrier and just gets better from there! Three pseudonyms, 3 different genres. All good, but this book captivated me the most, in fact, I’ve already started the second book in the series! I’ll be reading more from this author no matter what pseudonym she writes under! Narrator Larry Oblander’s talented narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. “I received a free Audible review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
