Creepiness to the nth degree! Ghostly creepiness. Human creepiness. All together in one creepy tale! I loved it!
Winter loves working in the family business. Her family owns Lago Caverns where they do tours of the caves. Winter loves doing the tours and telling stories to the customers.
Winter is in love with one of the ghosts that lives in the caverns. She wants to spend more time with him but he keeps disappearing on her. While he is disappearing other ghosts are showing up and causing a ruckus among the customers. Winter is getting worried about the ghosts and what they may do or is it really ghosts that are causing the entire disturbance?
Someone is sending Winter’s aunt threatening letters and leaving little surprises at the caverns and the house. Winter cares very much for her aunt and is determined to get to the bottom of it if it is the last thing she does. An old boyfriend from her aunt’s past shows up out of the blue one day. Why has this old boyfriend come visiting now? What does he want?
Dark Refrains is a fast and very enjoyable read. I love all the characters and the world of the ghost. I love hearing Winter tell her stories. I can’t seem to get enough of this world of Winter’s Cavern. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I highly recommend Dark Refrains to all fans of ghost stories.
So creepy!
There is a stalker threatening the family so Winter’s mother and aunt have agreed to sell the property and move away. What will happen to Winter’s best friend? He can’t come with, he’s a ghost that lives in the caverns and tries to protect Winter from all manner of harm. The other spirits in the caverns are upset and Winter can’t figure out why. This book was so good, I couldn’t put it down.
I love Ms Vane’s writing style, settings, and characters so much. She gets the “creepy” so good without ruining it with gore and violence. If you have read her first trilogy (Blood Flesh Bone) there is a nod in this book. Did you find it? By the way, that trilogy is just as good as this one, if you haven’t read it yet, you should. Can’t wait for the next installment!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
I loved this book. It is full of mystery and intrigue with an unexpected twist at the end. There is strong characters in the book especially the female characters. I couldn’t put it down as you didn’t know what way the story was going to go and kept you captivated until the last page.
Dark Refrains, the second novel in the Haunted Halls: Winter’s Cavern series is even more exciting then the first. The characters are developed a little more as you get to know them. In this story, not only is someone stalking the family, the malevolent ghosts are creeping around the caverns again. Looking forward to reading the grand finale to this story.
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review.
