Another great book in the Kat Drummond world! This book brings a new enemy for Kat and the Crusaders. Kat can’t trust anyone and must assume everyone is compromised. And this time she needs Candace to help save the city. This was another book I did not want to put down!! I love reading about Kat as fallible as she is and how she learns to overcome her fears. If I hadn’t already bought the whole series I would be purchasing the next book now!
I have read every book in the Kat Drummond series, and as her story gets more and more fleshed out, it just keeps getting better. I love the characters and the situations Kat and her team (friends? maybe even family?) get into just keep getting more epic. The world Kat lives in could be our own if it weren’t for the magic and magical creatures. And that’s part of what makes it so enjoyable.
When I pick up a Kat Drummond book I’ve come to expect pulse-pounding excitement, deep, authentic relationships, and a complex plot featuring plenty of moral ambiguity. High expectations, and this book delivers! The story line is just as fresh and compelling as ever. And OH! the emotional impact! Woode-Smith knows how to write a book that really draws the reader in, hits all the feels, and gives you the best kind of book hangover. The heroes are noble, the villains despicable, but nothing is predictable or black and white. Sometimes Kat wishes she could go back to the simple days when it was just monster hunting.
Kat is gaining quite a reputation and a bit of celebrity status – this has its pros and cons, especially when she attracts some unwanted attention. Kat is facing off against a devious and slippery villain and no one’s motivations are what they seem to be. She’s missing things she should have seen and her friends are getting hurt. The plot turns personal in this one and the dark side of good intentions is explored. Relationships are changed, difficult choices are made. What seemed a straight-forward story takes turns you never saw coming but totally should have seen foreshadowed.
This is book 10 in the series and is best read after the other books. **It has spoilers from previous books – read those first, worth it, I promise!** This is a series that progresses chronologically, and while each book has a self-contained plot, there are arcs and themes that span multiple books and lots of character growth and development from book to book.
“A rabid dog cannot be truly blamed for its acts. It is compelled by disease, no fault of its own.”
“All things, good or bad, come to an end. And all things that end, lead to a beginning.”
A headstrong heroine
An excellent story…urban fantasy at its best, with its mix of oblique horror, urban fantasy, and monsters. Woode-Smith weaves a tight, wonderfully-complex plot with Dark Order, and Kat Drummond is a capable, shining heroine you’ll love to root for. It’s Terrific! Surprisingly edgy and with a twist around every corner, the skilled and talented author sets the reader on an unstoppable ride. Authentic, witty and compelling—I could not put it down, can’t get enough of the story! I wish Silver Star #11 was already released!
This is another great installment in this series. Kat finds herself in the spotlight as a hero and a supporter of Jane Phoenix – the politician. Unfortunately she also finds herself the target of the latest evil foe – an elf named Darius and his dwarf side-kick. Most of the people she knows and holds dear are compromised and for the most part she is on her own – except for her secret weapon – Treth – of course.
This is book 10 in the Kat Drummond Series and it is a white knuckles pulse-pounding read. The charactersare very endearingand I’m veryinvestedin the team.
With each book the story-line becomes more complex plot featuring with hesrt reaching decisions that blur the lines of our characters original moral compass as they let mire about the supposed monsters continue to love and help flawed friends. And well yes keep trying to save humanity.
What I love most about the Katverse is that our heroes are noble flawedand strugglingto overcometheirinner demons. The villains are truly despicable and loathsome but the lines are always deeply mired in shades of gray no simple answer or clear cut decisions.
Kat is as usual has attracted unwanted attention as she faces a devious and cunning enemy. No one’s motivations are clear and even friends can easily be foe.
Blinded by trust Kat misses a few things and her friends are getting hurt. The story arc is deeply personal and the dark side of good intentions becomeshaunting. Relationships are changed, difficult choices are made. What seemed a straight-forward story takes turns you never could never imagined. So well written it was nearly impossible to put down.
As story-lines begin to merge I am excited to see what comes next for Kat.
Another captivating Kat Drummond installment.
It’s no longer just Kat and her friends hunting monsters. She realizes that she needs to expand Kat’s Crusaders to deal with larger menaces to Hope City but as she does so, a new adversary appears in the form of a vengeful elf, Darius, from the Conclave and his dwarf sidekick. Some how, Darius is able to control the actions of many of Kat’s friends and the population of Hope City and he threatens them with harm unless Kat turns over Candace to him. Naturally, Kat is off to search for a way to defeat Darius while keeping her friends and Hope City’s citizens safe.
Excellent characters and storyline. A great urban fantasy adventure.
An excellent series.
Things are getting even bigger and more challenging than ever before.
I received this book free form the author and decided to review it.
Kat is still Kat, with both the good and the bad, too often taking the weight of everything on her own shoulders. That is still the case in this book, but as before, Kat is growing. In this case, that also means her acceptance and responsibilities are growing as is her business finally expanding to fight the darkness. SPOILER ALERT! As an IT / tech person, I think the main spell issue in this book could have been resolved by tracking / disabling a user account(s) rather than destroying what was built, but in this case there was also a theme of self-sacrifice, not only for Kat, but also her friends. That said, Kat’s world is changing and it was great to have Candace back briefly. I assume we’re coming closer to the “ultimate” conflict, but hope it’s not too soon as I’m really enjoying the series.
A new evil in town. This is another great story that has Kat getting pulled into another great storyline! The evil has come to town and now Kat doesn’t know who to trust! The action and adventure are great and the suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will she have to fight alone?
I love these books and they keep getting better and better. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m off to read the next one.
I fell behind on my Kat Drummond reading thanks to factors beyond my control, so I’ve binge read through Dark Order & The Silver Star (Kat Drummond, Books 10&11). They were just too good to put down. It’s a great pleasure watching Kat develop in the series that somehow keeps the adrenaline flowing and is masterfully written so as to maximize enjoyment – astounding after so many installments but nonetheless true. Both of these books are super easy to highly recommend.
Dark Order (Kat Drummond Book 10)
ARC REVIEW
The Crusaders (Kat’s Crusaders) have come so far! Kat also has come a long way from book 1.
I love this series, and can’t wait to read them all!
