“Raw, dark, yet achingly tender, Dark Notes is a scorching-hot masterpiece as beautifully written as the music within.” ~ Anna Zaires, NY Times Bestselling Author
They call me a slut.Maybe I am.Sometimes I do things I despise.Sometimes men take without asking.But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.With one obstacle.Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.He seizes my … plan.
With one obstacle.
Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my will power and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.
He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

Honestly, this book sat on my kindle for a while. I just wasn’t sure that it was a good fit for me and I passed it over time and again. I’m just not a big fan of student teacher romances and often BDSM stories just leave me rolling my eyes. So when a friend suggested we do a buddy read, Dark Notes was chosen simply because we both already owned it. Frankly, my only hope was that it wouldn’t suck. Imagine my surprise, when not only did it not suck, it f@cking rocked.
Pam has taken some well worn tropes and transported them into something extraordinary. I was glued to the pages by her words and thrown squarely into the emotions and lives of her characters. I felt their music as its rhythm beat across the pages. I reveled in Ivory’s strength as she overcame her circumstances and realised her power. I felt Emeric’s need, devotion and passion as it grew, almost beyond his ability control it.
“That tiny glimmer in her eyes is trust. That’s when I hear it. The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air. The exquisite cadence pulses through me, awakening sensations I’ve never felt, composing a melody I’ve never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes.” ~Emeric
BDSM relationships are about power and control. Too often in romance novels, both are given to the Dom, even if we are told otherwise, resulting in a lopsided relationship that I can’t identity with. In Dark Notes, however, the power and control are more evenly divided. Even though the control is all Emeric’s, the strength and power belong solely to Ivory. The benefits extending well beyond the bedroom.
“The power is mine. I bask in it. His hands tremble, and I grab them, hold them, our fingers intertwined. I have him.”~Ivory
If you are on the fence about reading this one, take the chance, open your mind and let Dark Notes fill your heart.
A great read. The writing was great, I didn’t want to put it down.
This book clung to me long after I finished it. Some of the events that took place were very dark, and not in the savory chocolate way. But it added some serious depth to the characters, and made their rise from the ashy pires a joy to read.
