See where it all began in the first phenomenal novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series… The only purebred vampire left on the planet and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who killed his parents centuries ago. But when his most trusted fighter is killed—orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her … daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate—Wrath must put down his dagger and usher the beautiful female into another world.
Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of the Brotherhood and blood frighten her. Yet his touch ignites a dawning new hunger—one that threatens to consume them both…

Where it all began. Book 1 of the (now infamous) Black Dagger Brotherhood. My paperback has been read so many times pages are actually falling out. And that was long, long before she was a bestselling author!
Any book in this series is well worth reading. You have these dark, brooding alpha vampires that takes nothing from no one…well except there perfect mate. Maybe pretty predictable at times, but a great read none the less. I’m hooked and I stalk each new release.
In answering today’s question “What book have you been meaning to read?” this was it. Even though it seemed everyone in the universe loved it, I had put off starting this series for a long time, mainly because there are so many books in the series and they’re not cheap (according to me). Well, this book, the first in the series happened to be …
The Blind Vampire King is to die for. The ultimate Alpha man, he softens the stereotype by being kind and gentle with his queen. Finally, a man who can fight like the devil for what is right yet express his love beautifully to his beloved.
Ward’s writing and creativity, effortlessly brings to life stories of a master vampire race and of the elite warriors, breed and trained to give their lives for the protection of their dying race. Forget everything you have seen and think you know about vampires! These guys are not the Cullen’s family! The Brotherhood are battle harden, leather …
Imagine an adults only version of Twilight. One of the best romance/horror/vampire series I have ever read.
While I have my pet peeves about this series, this is a relisten that I have a bit of nostalgia for. BDB is what introduced me to audiobooks. I found I couldn’t get past names with “younique” spellings but really wanted to be able to enjoy the stories so many others were loving, so I thought… aha! Audio. And thus my love affair with audiobooks …
This is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I love these books. The world is quite vast and varied but Ward manages to keep it all tight and understandable. I recommend any book in this series but this is the one to start with if you want to give it a try. It is best to read these in order so you understand all the relationships …
In honor of The Savior coming out today, I figured I’d go ahead and leave a review for Dark Lover, the book that started it all. As a vampire romance novelist myself, I have to say that this series is one of the best out there! Dark Lover begins the journey where we meet Wrath, the vampire king, and Beth, the half-human, half-vampire daughter …
Dark Lover is the book that started it all for me. It opened the door to a world of paranormal romance that I never would have thought would interest me. Since this book I haven’t been able to get enough.
Ward has unbelievable world building abilities and gives such vivid details I swear I can picture myself right there in the story. I also …
This is the book that brought me into the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, and I positively loved it. It’s a new twist on the vampire culture that should not be missed by any SFR readers. It’s steamy, engaging and filled with characters you want to know more about.
Fantastic…a series you should really pick up and keep reading…
This is the first book in the JR Ward Black Daggar Brotherhood. If you like paranormal…or really even if you’ve never tried…this is one of the best series. Dark Lover starts off with Wrath and Beth, a really steamy love story here. The world building starts here as well that will follow through to the dozen or so additional books in the …
This is where the Black Dagger Brotherhood begins. Wrath is a warrior who should be king. But does he really want to lead? Especially when he can do so much more on the battlefield. Or can he? The love of a good woman opens a good man . . . Or vampire . . . To many possibilities. This is an excellent star to a fabulous series.
I loved this book, have read it more than once.
J.R. Ward is always a page turner if you like developed alpha males!
This first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series will have you hooked. It has a good mix of action, mystery, comedy and romance. I’ve read the series a few times over, it’s amazing.
This book got me hooked on paranormal romances. I have read EVERY book written by JR Ward since I got my hands on this first one. Love her, and especially love all the characters in her books, most importantly, Vishious and Zadhist.
This book started my love affair with J R Ward. I haven’t missed one in almost 20 years!
Love everything JR Ward. Especially the Black Dagger Brotherhood. If you haven’t read this series… you. Are. Missing. Out.
