Rhys EvansSixteen years… now Ariel Hamilton was back—the onetime love of his life and the daughter of Dark Fall’s infamous serial killer. She rolled into town with her icy smile, furious eyes and baseless accusations of police corruption. Damn it to hell, Hamilton had been the X-factor killer, he was absolutely certain of that—no matter how desperate Ariel was trying to prove him wrong.
Ariel Hamilton
Sixteen years…
For sixteen years she’d lived with the knowledge her father had been framed, and watched him waste away in prison for crimes he hadn’t committed. Nobody had believed her back then. Even Rhys, the boy she’d loved with all her heart, had walked away. It had been a hard lesson, but she’d learned it well—count on no one. Well she finally had proof of her dad’s innocence. Proof that Dark Falls police department had framed an innocent man and covered it up…were still covering it up. She wasn’t nineteen anymore, she wouldn’t be cowed and ran out of town. She’d stay and fight to clear her father’s name. Even if that meant drawing the real killer out…even if that meant making herself a target and losing a second chance with the only man she’d ever loved.

This romantic suspense is a mind blowing and thrilling read that readers can really sink their teeth into. Ariel and Rhys are strong, captivating characters that make it easy for readers to connect which in turn makes it easy for them to become completely caught up in the story. The chemistry between Rhys and Ariel sizzling with lots of electrical intensity that readers can feel leaping off the pages but it also has some strong emotional vibes flowing from the characters as well, which isn’t really surprising considering the situation these two are in. The past relationship between the hero and heroine play an integral part in the story and is the cause of a lot of the emotional turbulence which keeps the outcome of their relationship in question.
The plot is steady to fast paced and steadily builds the suspense throughout which keeps readers glued to the pages as a sixteen year old crime begins to unravel and truths are revealed. Ariel was always convinced of her dad’s innocence while others including Rhys were sure that he was the infamous serial killer. This keeps emotions in constant turmoil while surprising twists and betrayals keep readers on the edge of their seat. The story takes place in an intriguing small town which adds ambiance to the story and as more information and evidence comes to light, everyone starts to realize the far reaching consequences of ‘what if they were wrong’ which ensures that there is never a dull moment to be found in this thrilling romantic suspense.
There appears to have been some issues with the downloading of the full book, I’m expecting those are cleared up now for everyone. From my version I can say that the author is a very talented writer and has a wonderful imagination to think up and then write such a great, interesting plot. I loved the book and I look forward to reading other books by her. The plot is wonderful, the characters are well described and believable, it’s a wonderful mystery book.

The great plot was well written and the characters were so well developed that as I turned each page the chemistry between the characters kept me totally hooked until the very last page!

I love second chances and reading about the one that got away. And the reason that Rhys and Ariel need a second chance is one of the most tragic I’ve come across. The story sucked me in and pulled me along for the ride. I didn’t want to put it down when distractions like my day job interrupted me. I can’t say that the true villain in this story was a big surprise to me, but I’m going to blame that on my own overly suspicious nature. I enjoyed this and look forward to reading the next in the series.
This story is filled with great characters with lots of drama and suspense. A second chance romance with a difference.

This was a really good read I loved how there were plenty of twists and you were kept on your toes wondering who exactly it was after Ariel and how they had potentially gotten things so wrong years ago. You could really feel the emotions both Ariel and Rhys were going through especially as they both have such strong beliefs on her the killer is. As things unfold there is plenty of shocks, nail biting moments and some great sexual tension that has you turning the page wanting to know how things will end!
Okay…. This had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. It starts with a murder that leads to a copycat murderer or the original murderer from fourteen years prior. The man convicted for the crimes fourteen years ago was Ariel’s father. Ariel has always insisted that her father was innocent. Now she was on the trail of the murderer to prove her father posthumously did not commit the murders. Ariel Hamilton is a kick-@*s character. She is smart, wise, ingenious and is willing to head into the new situation one thousand percent. Her ex, Rhys Evans, was now a detective on the Dark Falls Police Department. Rhys walked away from Ariel, when her father was accused of murdering his twin sister. There is a lot of suspense and danger in the story. Now the killer was after Ariel. Why? she did not know. On more than one occasion he tried to get at her, but failed. Ariel did not take anything for granted and did all she could to protect herself. When the detectives became aware of her safety measures, it garnered their respect. The flame between Rhys and Ariel was not dead and it showed up from time to time. It was creative the way the serial killer orchestrated everyone around him to his will. He dropped hints by phone and by letter. He arranged for things to be found that would incriminate him. But he laughed at the police force for their stupidity that he was right under their noses all along. He played them. But it wasn’t until the end that we find out who the serial killer is and why he did what he did. There is only one drawback. The story did not resolve the situation between Ariel and her younger sister, FBI agent, Ashley. That was disappointing. Also, it would not have hurt to have had an epilogue perhaps covering the exoneration of Ariel’s father and the reestablishment of Ariel and Rhys’ relationship. Did they move in together? Did they get married, have kids? What about Ariel’s career as a non-fiction crime writer? Did she write about the X Factor Killer and make it into a book? So many unanswered questions. Other than that, this book provided a tension filled, suspenseful, dangerous, wild rollercoaster ride. There were so many twists and turns. It was hard to guess what would happen next. An exciting read and I do recommend it.
First I have read in this series and by this author. Intense gripping full of suspense. Everything I would have wanted in a mystery book. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Story line was indeed intense. Didn’t know until almost the end who the killer was. Love that in a book. Keeps you hanging until the end. I will be reading more in this series.
3.5 Stars
Dark Legacy by Trish McCallan is book Three in the Dark Falls Series. This is the story of Ariel Hamilton and Rhys Evans. I haven’t yet read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book. Ariel and Rhys used to be young an in love but after her father was blamed for murders…one being Rhys’s sister they broke up. Ariel moved away to become a writer and Rhys worked for the police force. Ariel felt her father was innocent of the crimes and when a new murder happens it may be the chance to prove it. Really good mystery story line with a second chance at love undertones.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Ariel + Rhys were childhood sweethearts.
Then her father was accused of being a serial killer.
Ariel was sure of his innocence
Rhys was sure of his guilt.
Sixteen years later, they are back at Dark Falls.
This time, will they give love a chance ?
Will they be able to move forward ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
DARK LEGACY By Trish McCallan
This is the 3rd book set in Dark Falls. I wanted to read it as Trish McCallan is always writes a great story. I buy all her books as soon as I see one is released. This is an excellent read! You have suspense, intrigue, and romance. It will certainly keep you engrossed and turning pages.
This is about Dark Falls P.D. detective Rhys Evans and crime writer Ariel Hamilton. They were together through high school and college. They fell apart when Rhys’ twin was murdered and Ariel’s dad was convicted of it, she always believed and maintained her father was innocent. Rhys was convinced they had the killer. Sixteen years later something happens that brings Ariel back to Dark Falls to investigate and to see if she can find out how he was framed. You need to read this book. I am giving it 5 stars.
ONE INTENSE ADVENTURE!!!
Wow! Talk about wasting time. This is one action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, nailbiting, page turning bombshell that’s as riveting as it is captivating. No holds barred, not pulling any punches and not backing down. With all the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for incredible experience. One sensational storyline with a strong plot keeps your focus on the pages and frozen to your seat. The characters are complex, well developed and realistic it pulls this little treasure together beautifully. The scenes are so graphically descriptive it’s easy to picture each scenario as it plays out in perfect balance. You get it all, with a whirlwind of emotions and events that really make this bad boy pop. McCallan and Falls did an excellent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Great job guys, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Absolutely A fantastic story.

I must say this story is a suspenseful and purse pounding read .

The chemistry between Rhys and Ariel is smokin’ and off the chains . The story leaves you on the edge of your seat . This is a fantastic well written story . A second chance romance included . The characters are incredible . I really enjoyed reading this book . I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy this story . I’m looking forward to more in this series .
Another great read.
Dark Legacy is a romantic thriller. Rhys and Ariel loved each other but, they were separated by a crime that her father was convicted of. Now Ariel is back in town so she can prove that her father was innocent but, Rhys is still sure that he was guilty. This is great romantic suspense and I would definitely recommend it.
Though I read book one and missed book two in the series, I decided to check this one out.
We are back in Dark Falls. This time the story belongs to Detective Rhys Evans, and crime writer Ariel Hamilton. They were HS and college sweethearts until the day her father was accused of being a serial killer, jailed, while Ariel believed in his innocence and Rhys not believing he was. But he had reasons for those feelings.
They both left town going their separate ways, until sixteen years later. An anonymous call prompts Ariel back to Dark Falls and now she is more determined that ever to clear her father’s name.
The attraction is still there, but more importantly, someone wants Ariel dead. This begins a cat and mouse chase filled with suspense, whodunit, and lots of sparks flying between Ariel and Rhys. Will she survive the attempts on her life and be able to clear her father of wrong doing, or will the killer get to her first?
Non-stop action with strong characters that will keep you guessing.
Quoting a comment from the author, I am “a thousand percent” sure that I will read other books in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
A really good book, full of suspense, police corruption and bit of romance. Ariel always knew that her father was framed for a crime he didn’t commit, it took her sixteen years but she finally has come back home to prove it. A well written book rich with intriguing characters this will satisfy all your cravings for an action packed, mystery.
This was a wonderful book and the people who got the wrong file should go back and download again. Ariel was a strong woman and was intelligent and definitely loyal. I loved her character as she gave as good as she got. She defended her father all the way and believed in him. Rhys was also a great character as a detective. Lots of action and a touch of steam. The two had great chemistry and the book was great. Loved this addition to Dark Falls.
Book 3:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the Dark Legacy in the Dark Falls Box Set 1-5 Dark Falls, CO Romantic Thrillers: Rhys and by Trish McCallan et al and this review was given freely.
A twisted story of revenge and serial killing blended with a second chance at love for Detective Rhys Evans and his teenage girl friend Ariel Hamilton. contains a strong attraction but only hints of steamy scenes.
Fourteen years after Rhys’ twin is killed and three years after her father dies in prison, Ariel Hamilton receives a call from the X-factor killer proclaiming her father’s innocence and luring both her and her sister, FBI agent Ashley, back to Darks Falls, Colorado.
18+ recommended for violent content.
3.25 Stars. Since the last book in this Series involved police corruption inside Dark Falls Police Department, I was disappointed this plot was similar
with involving law enforcement in the role of the villain.
Ariel is taunted back to Dark Falls 14 years after her father was convicted of being a Serial Killer. She always believed in his innocent and felt a cop set him up. The police think there is a Copycat murderer on the loose, but Ariel is determined to clear her father’s name. Her former boyfriend, Rhys, is now a Detective and he isn’t buying into Ariel’s beliefs. That is, until he realizes someone is out to make her the next victim.
The plot was disconnected. Also, there wasn’t an even balance between the suspense and romance.
