Lethal magic. Sizzling romance. And a ruthless fight to the death.
My name is Sierra Reeves, and on my eighteenth birthday I discovered that my whole life is built on lies.I’m not a regular girl. My telekinetic powers can flip the precarious balance between good and evil. As for the business trips my father disappeared to for weeks, they were high-risk, magical assignments that ended in … high-risk, magical assignments that ended in bloodbaths, not signed documents.
His latest mission went terribly wrong, and he never returned, leaving me an orphan. Soon, the gang who executed him is after me, planning to use me as a weapon to overthrow the magical government.
Forced to leave my childhood home, I find myself on the run to Savannah, a quiet, southern city whose magic-bearing marshal might be able help me. However, Savannah’s only appears peaceful during the daytime. At night, it turns into a city of dark alleys, howling winds, and creaking houses. As for its marshal, Gavin McLoughlin, he’s well connected in the supernatural world and hums with authority.
If anyone can teach me how to say alive it’s him. Too bad Gavin has no interest in training me. He doesn’t trust me and wants me to stay as far away from him and his city as possible.
I can’t. I need him, and if I’m honest, I’m driven to him like a moth to the flame. I know it’s stupid, but I can’t stop staring into his eyes that are as turquoise as the sea. His cedar and woodsy smell soothes me. And no matter how tough and muscled his exterior, I’m certain there’s a soft side hidden underneath.
I don’t care how hard I’ll have to fight to get into his inner circle. I won’t give up. But just as I make the tiniest bit of progress with Mr. Stubborn, corpses sprout like mushrooms all over Savannah. If I’m not careful, I will be next…

I don’t read a lot of young adult books, but I do love Urban Fantasy. There’s just something about the idea of magical beings walking among us mere humans that fires up the imagination.
Fluidus Rising is everything a great Urban Fantasy tale should be. It starts with just a taste of the magic and suspense to come and builds from there with a rising tension that keeps the pages turning. The story revolves around Sierra, who is quite special in the supernatural world. She’s forced to learn about the Ardere world while being uprooted from her life, learning who she can trust, and trying to stay alive and safe. In addition to Sierra’s struggles, we also have a murderer on the loose in Savannah, and while I did figure out who the killer was, it didn’t take away from the excitement of the story for me. In fact, it added an extra bit of tension in the suspense of who would be next.
This first book in the Ardere series does a wonderful job of building the author’s world of supernaturals and while it doesn’t end with an earth-shattering cliffhanger, there are some unanswered questions, and the conclusion sets us up for the next addition in a promising series.
On the night of her high school graduation strange things start happening around Sierra Reeves like her diploma starts floating through the air and she can see the auras of the people around her. And after receiving her diploma her Gran whisk her away from graduation early and rushes home so they can pack and leave. She won’t tell Sierra what all the hurry is Gran says there is not time that she will tell her on the road.
But of course Gran does not give her much information. But she does tell her that she has magical powers and that she is a part of the supernatural world that she has always believed to be a myth. Gran says they are going to Savannah, Georgia where they will be safe from the ones that are trying to either kill or kidnap Sierra. The people in Savannah will hide them and keep them safe.
In Savannah Sierra meets the Andere marshal Gavin McLoughlin. Gavin helps her to accept the supernatural world and helps her learn how to use her new powers. It is a slow go for Sierra in learning how to use her powers. She is having a hard time in figuring out how to use them or make them work when she wants them too.
Sierra is cautioned about running around on her own because someone is out to get her. They either want to kill her or kidnap her for her magical powers. Not only does she have to worry about someone wanting to kidnap her but there is a killer loose in Savannah. Someone is going around killing young women.
But Sierra is an eighteen year old girl/woman who has just graduated high school and is ready to take on the world and doesn’t like being treated like a kid so therefore she doesn’t pay much attention to what her Gran or Gavin tells her to do and is always running off herself.
I will give it to her most of the time she has consulted with Gran before going out but she usually ends up just a little farther off the trail than what she discussed with Gran. To Sierra she is a grown woman now and can take care of herself but on a couple of occasion she does find herself in peril.
Sierra gets herself a job working in a bar after being highly advised against it she meets this young man, Maxim who asks her out. Maxim and Sierra hit it off pretty quickly. Sierra is not sure exactly want she wants as she also likes Gavin. But Gavin is sort of standoffish and seems to push her away but Maxim on the other hand doesn’t no; he takes her in his arms and wraps her up tight.
Fluidus Rising takes off right from the beginning at a very fast pace and doesn’t let up until the very end. It will have you on the edge of your seat flying thorough it wanting to know what is around the next corner. I really loved this new take on the supernatural world that has been created in Fluidus Rising. I can’t wait to learn more about the supernatural world and about Sierra’s new world in the next book.
Come join Sierra as she takes us on this epic journey with her while she learns about her new world and her magical powers and all the magical powers that is around her.
I would recommend Fluidus Rising to anyone who loves to get lost in a magical world.
Fluidus Rising by Margo Ryerkerk a fluid and fitting five-star read. This was my first read by this author and I really hope it’s not the last as the quality of writing was sublime, there was a little of everything in this story. I’m a fan of the YA paranormal genre but It’s not my favourite genre, but this was a great example of the genre and a great overall read. Sierra Reeves was a girl a simple girl with a normal life and then suddenly she’s not things start to change and she deals with it like a champ but no matter how hard she hard she tries things keep going wrong for her. While Sierra deals with everything and starts to get a handle on her stuff with a little help from a handsome Marshall, the face many battles but will they both come out the other side?
Well done Margo Ryerkerk on a great well written, thrilling read.
I can’t believe I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would! For me it was a new challenge – a new author and that means different style of writing, creating the world I love in a new way. Yes it was different but very interesting, action packed fast paced with unexpected twists and turns which pulls you in to the story wanting to know more. Great storyline full of magic and supernatural powers, mysteries, relationships with a hint of romance. The only thing which made me give 4 stars it was too easy to guess who the killer was. But that’s not the main story of the book. Great characters! I loved Sierra and Gavin with all their demons from their sorrowful past, I would like to see what author has up to her sleeve for them in the future.
I see the real potential and promises of this book so I’m looking forward to read the rest of this series
Thanks Margo Ryerkerk for giving me the chance to read this really good book!
LOVED this book!
An intriguing, unusual & promising Paranormal Fantasy Romance!!
I loved how this book flowed. Sierra, I think & hope, will turn into a real badass of a heroine in subsequent books. I feel, as she learns to control all of her powers & faces more threats & matures, that she’ll start to wield her powers with confidence & with the snark that we were starting to see creep in to her personality, Yes !!
She was completely out of her element in the beginning, having had no idea that Supernatural’s even existed. All that changed for her on graduation day which was also her 18th birthday. They go on the run as Sierra has suddenly come into her ‘Fluidus’ powers. She will become extremely powerful with unique powers so therefore the Rulers want her on their side, as do the ‘Bad guys’. Both will want to use her to get her to wield her powers for them!! Gran wants her to choose for herself
Gavin is the ‘Marshal’ of Savannah. That means he’s the person in charge of supernatural’s & dealing with their crimes & punishments if needed in that area. He then reports to the area’s Ruler. He’s known Sierras’ Gran since his childhood & they go to him for help & protection when they flee their home!! He a nice guy, runs a lovely bar but he has high thick emotional walls guarding his heart. They were formed since past heartache. He’s loyal though & has a few close friends!!
The characters are well rounded, the plotline is interesting & I’m really looking forward to reading more in this series The secondary characters, even the one’s we’ve only met very briefly & others we haven’t met at all yet, are all pretty intriguing!! The concept of these different factions of power, though not unique, is a spin I haven’t read before & the way the concept is written makes it stand apart & feel new!! My only real negative, it could do with some lighter, humorous moments interspersed throughout!!
(I can’t get the feeling that Sierra’s Mum is going to be alive & running the Umbra Gang out of my head, I don’t know why, but it would be a great twist )
I definitely recommend this read, I’ll be back that’s a certainty

Highly addicted action pack book. Loved every word written. Can’t wait to sink into the next one!
Want to go on more about how great this book is but, afraid I might spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet.
Dark Legacy (Dark Legacy Series, Book One) is the first book in this ya paranormal series that brings magic, mystery and suspense. This author has created a complex world with a original storyline. The story is fast paced with compelling characters. Sierra is a interesting character to get to know. This author weaves mystery into the storyline. Thee is more time the story which picks up in book two.
Winona Owen narration was smooth and easy listening. Her inflection is sweet and fit the mc Sierra Reeves.
Audiobook Obsession
There is a lot of action in the first book of this series but there’s also a ton of information to process as we are thrown smack dab in the middle of an oncoming mess. Sierra is whisked away from her graduation and friends and dropped into a world she had no knowledge of. There’s plenty f action and chaos, murders and kidnapping that happens and we receive pieces, just enough to keep you holding on. This author quickly draws you into her dark web and leaves you reeling with each revelation. Yes you are left with many questions and left hanging other places while one leg of the adventure ends and another begins. Blood will be shed and trust will be broken. Not knowing who to trust and now left to rely one she isn’t sure of all Sierra knows is she needs answers. A great start to the series and hints of more to come make it hard to not continue the series just to see what happens next. I am loving this author and looking forward to the next book in the series.
A great read <3
