In a thrilling Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman fights to free herself from the grip of the vampire trying to possess her… In a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city—when she was forced to exchange … city—when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire.
Now, it’s his voice that haunts her…that calls to her in the dark…that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm…

Loved it and entire series
You have to have read all the Carpathian books, from Dark Prince on, to actually give this a 4 star, but I have, so I did enjoy it. As these progress Feehan slightly adjusts the life mate story. Now a life mate is reborn time and time again until her Carpathian hunter finally finds her. This is actually more satisfying since the earlier scenario was such a crap shoot. I mean, if the hunter is living in South Africa, fighting vampires, and his lifemate is born in Korea, lives 40-50 years and then dies, what are the odds the two will ever find each other? No wonder there are so many vampires. But if she is reborn again, in the south of England maybe, and then in New Jersey etc. etc. they have a chance of finally running into each other. Otherwise, this book continues the story of the new American vampire HQ outside of San Diego and also brings in the really old guys from the monastery. I just wish Dragonmire and Lucian and Gregori and Rafael would all get together for a beer and shoot the bull. I was delighted to meet Gary in his new ancient Carpathian mode. Feehan is opening up the back story while the plot just plods along.
I loveeee the dark series but this by far is my favorite in the series. The characters are hilarious and the story is great. I can’t count how many times i literally busted out laughing
