A snarky fae, a sexy king, and forbidden desire deep as the sea. The first book in a three-book series.Once, I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Until a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away.
After the brutal king …
After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. What Lyr doesn’t know is that the blade might restore my stolen magic.
But as we journey, the gorgeous jerk is starting to make me feel things I’ve never felt. When Lyr touches me, desire ignites. I see raging passion in his eyes, too. If I give in, I risk losing my chance at reclaiming my power. Even worse… I could be forfeiting my life.

This was honestly my first fae book and it was fun!
Dark King was a fun read for me because I read most of it in a day and the fact that it is fast-paced. I very much disliked how everything started happening after that 70% mark in the book. I appreciated how the romance was building up in the book, but that didn’t make sense to me was how they suddenly had a desire for sex and they sudden;y wanted to fuck each other like what?!
And I might have over missed this too but I don’t recall the ‘dark king’ taking off his clothes before ‘thrusting into her’.
I also liked how violent these sea creatures were because for some reason it made me laugh. I would highly recommend to those who are looking for a fun sea fae creature action-packed book.
One of the reasons I love being a part of the book community is finding reads I fall in love with. This is one of them.
Dark King by CN Crawford, ok I am not sure how the hell I found you…..but I am so freaking happy that I did!!!
The assassins showed up ready to kill Aenor, however she was not ready to go quietly or even at all. Aenor wasn’t going down without a fight. Her and Gina lived quietly underground killing the monsters that were evil. The Fae had come for her but she knew they would. Not giving up and fighting for her and GIna’s lives, she fought the two Fae assassins.
While she struggled with the idea of killing the second Fae who was there to kill her, she knew she had to do it. However, it was not meant to be . With all it’s twists and turns this story kept me captive. From the moment she comes out of the water to fight the two there to kill her to the moment she realizes once her powers are back, she won’t need any protection. She will stand on her own two feet and fight those that come for her.
I loved this! I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal reads! The drama, the attraction of two amazing characters and the story line ! LOVED every second of this !!!
Ru kidding?
I love a paranormal! More than just that, I love finding a new author that makes you want to devour all of her books. The Dark King did all of that! I loved it.
In googling “amazon bestseller list,” I came across this book. In a fit of jealousy (I’m only human) I wanted to hate it. I wanted to thumb through it, and find all kinds of errors, mistakes, and overall boredom.
That didn’t happen.
I inhaled this in one day – less than a day. (My family is still angry for having sandwiches for dinner.)
The plot was phenomenal, the characters addictive, and the sexy stuff was UBER sexy. This is some of the finest writing I’ve come across lately.
I’m sure my modest little review doesn’t mean a whole lot to some of you, but you should trust me when I say THIS BOOK IS AWESOME, and I can’t wait for book 2. Like, I literally CAN’T WAIT.
Hurry up Crawfords…..
Potential, but a bit dark for me
Book 1 in the Sea Fae series (also linked to the Shadow Fae series) this is my first read by this author.
There was some intriguing world building here, and I enjoyed the brief flashes of humor. The plot was interesting enough to keep me turning pages, but I did feel like I was dropped into the middle of the story. I’m not sure if that was the author’s intent to try to pull me in, or if reading the linked series (apparently Aenor, the main character here has an appearance in book 4 of the other series) would have helped set the stage a little better. Note this story ends on what I consider a Happy-For-Now, with a lot of unanswered questions to carry over into the next book.
While it had a lot of potential, the story was just too dark, a little too violent and foreboding for my taste. I didn’t care about the characters as much as I would have liked, and while it was a fast read for me, I found it vaguely unsatisfying. I considered reading book 1 of the linked series to see if getting more background would help, but it’s an academy book, a storyline I typically avoid. Without more investment in the characters, I’m probably just not interested enough to carry on with the series. 3 stars because of the potential, and because I did enjoy it enough to finish.
This was an easy read for me. I found the setting, characters, and storyline easy to follow. I never found myself getting lost or needing to take a minute to connect the dots. I finished reading this book in about a day and found myself eager to read more of the story, but I will have to wait until November 20th! This was an easy read for me. I will preface this by saying, I had never read a single thing by this author before I read this book. I feel like that’s important because she’s written other books, set in this same world, that take place before the events in this book. That being said, I had absolutely no trouble following what was going on in this story, so if you’ve never read her other books, you can still start with this! However, I did stay up all night binge reading this one and then went on to read all 7 of her Shadow Fae books in the next 3 days!!
Aenor, what an awesomely unique name, is essentially in hiding at the start of the story after having her home destroyed some 150 years prior. From page one Aenor is in the middle of fairly non-stop action, adventure, and danger and I loved every page of it! As a heroine, Aenor has more than her fair share of hang-ups, but as the story progresses, we are given insight into events in her past that explain why she has those hang-ups and make her feel like a very authentic and real character. I love where this story is headed, doesn’t hurt that Lyr has this totally sexy, broody thing going on, and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!
Hot diggity damn that book was hot! This is probably the steamiest book I’ve read by CN Crawford! I did feel like it was slow to start but really picked up at about 20%. There were a lot of big plot twists I definitely didn’t see coming. I really liked how Aenor doesn’t have much magic she has to rely more on her wits than magically ability. I can’t wait for book 2!
When I first looked at this book I didn’t know how unique it was going to be, but as I started reading I really fell in love with the dynamic of the characters and the plot of the story! Can’t wait for book 2! So excited for what’s to come!
A dark, entertaining read with romance and twists at every turn. The story was engrossing and held my attention, especially with all the twists. Aenor was strong and protective with a fighting spirit and I loved her drive to protect others from injustice and brutality. Lyr has this alluring attractiveness and I adored his subtlety but despite all the pieces being present, his character fell a little flat. I’m torn as the story was a page-turner while reading it, but afterwards left me feeling a little disenchanted and underwhelmed. While it didn’t blow me away, it was still a solid, enjoyable read with strong themes of justice and protection plus romance. I look forward to trying more books from this author.
I rather enjoyed this book. I am not usually one that is drawn to books about Fae, but this book surprised me quite a bit. The story is addicting and the characters fantastic. You can’t help but feel for Aenor at times and Lyr is just intriguing because you never really know how he is going to react next. That these two are drawn to each other, even though they kind of don’t want to be, makes the story even more interesting. I cannot wait to see what happens next in their story.
Absolutely adore this new Fae adventure – I can’t wait for more of Aenor and Lyr!
I loved the pace and the plot of this story. The characters were well developed. When I started reading I had no idea where this was headed. I did not expect the story that I got from it, I love to be surprised and this did it. Aenor was raised by a crazy mother but turned out to be a strong woman. Her relationship with Lyr was unexpected an kept me pulled into the story to the end, As with any series it leaves us ready for the next book. I am very excited for it. I love this author’s stories, I am Never disappointed. I highly recommend this story as a wonderful read. Happy Reading!

But one of the assassins comes back to her. He takes her to his castle in the dungeon. He needs her help finding an artifact. Lyr, is a powerful fae, he will do anything to save and protect to his people. He doesn’t trust Aenor, as he thinks she destroyed her kingdom.
Aenor and Lyr will travel all over to find the missing artifact that will stop the attacks, they have to find out who is behind the attacks. Who is the nameless fae that attacked Aenor kingdom, will she find her friend Gina in time. Will she be able to get her missing powers back.
There are a lot of twist and turns with a some major surprises that will keep you reading until you reach the end.
This book is fast paced with a lot of action. Love the chemistry between Aenor and Lyr, how it was a slowly burned. You will enjoy the different relationships in this book, loads of laughs, sarcasm, so many different emotions.
I am looking forward to book 2 to see where Aenor’s adventures will take her. How she will deal with everything that has happened and will happen. She is a fierce kick butt heroine with a great he
I received an ARC copy of this book, this is my honest review and opinion
in a word: WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! more words: AMAZING, Intriguing, IMMAGINITIVE. I stopped reading book #3 of a series I’d been reading before I saw the description for Dark King!!! It’s THAT good!!! I read it from cover to cover of my kindle!! I couldn’t put it down!!! NO CLIFF HANGER!!!! LOVE that!!! I do feel like there will be some sequels b/c there are a few things the author let us know a little about and INGUIRING MINDS want more info!!! Can’t wait!
This book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting in a good way. The author mentioned this was more romance-oriented than her other books. I lean more to less romance, but since I like this author’s writing, I went ahead and took a chance. Yes, the book has more romance in it, but it does still have an interesting plot about Aenor’s past, Lyr’s past, Lyr’s half-brothers, etc. There was only one that that bothered me, and it is all my preference nothing to do with the author, and it’s that I can’t stand when people hide information from each other. Drives me bonkers! LOL! Anyway, this was a great series starter and I look forward to the next book to find out more information about the bearer of the fruit (no spoilers!). I do recommend this book, and I was provided a complimentary copy.
