Morgan (Dark Justice) by Jenna Ryan is the first book in her series.
Ms. Ryan is a new author to me but there was so much going on that I felt like I spent more time going back to see what I missed so I could understand what was going on with that being said I give the book 4 stars.
Amber/Alexa saw something that her boss would kill for so when the FBI asks her for information she and her sister end up in WPP. But the bad guys find them and Gage Morgan is sent in to find her as well as try to find her kidnapped sister (Who’s a spoiled brat really). Some of the people that Gage goes to for cars/RV’s/trucks are absolutely hilarious which give the story a funny edge. But will they be successful in not only finding her sister, Rachel, but also the mole within the WPP/FBI all while trying to take down Mockerie the drug kingpin who would scare even me.
Great story with well developed plot and characters. A real page turner. If you like romantic suspense, a must read. I read it twice !
It was a little long, but the action kept the story moving along at a sready pace.
Couldn’t put it down.
Enjoyed!!!!
A very entertaining read! I liked the story very much; it kept me on my toes and waiting for the next twist. I loved that the author gave us “No way” moments. You would have to read for yourself to see what I’m talking about. I loved the main heroine; she has a lot of patience for her sister who happens to be the biggest pain. The book is packed with action has so many twists and turns, some hot sexy love scenes and rollercoaster moments. You can only hope the people you trust, are truly the people you can trust.

There are many things I enjoyed about this read and a few that I didn’t. I love how Ms. Ryan gives us a female character that can defend herself and has a back bone. I also enjoyed how we got mulitiple points of view but at times it confused me.
Amber helped the FBI collect evidence against her boss and brother in law Owen Fixx. She was able to succeed but now her and her sister are in the Witness Protection Program. I struggled to have a connection to Gage, I liked him and all he protects Amber and he’s invested in seeing who is after her and how far betrayals go.
The book is packed with action page after page, but to me, it seemed like a revolving door. She would escape, be on the run, hiding, slowly stop looking over her shoulder and then boom it would all happen again. But that is also the part that intrigued me because I was always wondering how long until they find her next time.
The author has a unique way of writing and I did enjoy this book for all that it was, just wasn’t one that grabbed me from the beginning and had me completely hooked.
Amber has lost her career and has been in Witness Protection for a year after helping the FBIgo after her slime ball brother in law. Her sister isn’t happy at the situations. Rachel has always been self centred and she can’t help but be a petulant child!
Owen Fixx, said slimeball, is not about to let Amber and his ex-wife topple his empire. When they blip on his radar once again, he sends a crew of mercenaries to bring the girls back to him.
Gage is a former cop from the LAPD and as a favour to a friend is sent to help out Amber and Rachel. But he basically walks into a maelstrom of trouble; Rachel has been taken, Amber is determined to find her not matter the cost to herself and he can’t trust anyone cos the WPP and FBI possibly have moles on the Fixx payroll.
Brilliantly paced book. I loved the dynamics between the sisters, very realistic! Rachel was so much a Drama Queen and Amber was just so Big Sister! Gage was a wonderfully mysterious package to unwrap! The suspense is amped up by the mole hunt and race to find Rachel. There are great background characters incl the well named Bear! Really enjoyable book and can’t wait to see what happens next!
Dark Justice: Morgan by Jenna Ryan
Dark Justice #1
Suspense, thrills, action, betrayal, romance and more abound in this the first book of the Dark Justice Series. I was hooked from the beginning and could not put the book down till I finished the last page.
Amber (once Alexa) was asked by the FBI to find information on Owen Fixx, her criminal boss, and fearing for her sister’s life she does so. At the point when both sisters lives are in danger they end up in the Witness Protection Program – even though Rachel (once Georgia) does not want to leave her cushy life and does not believe she is in danger. For a short period of time they are safe in a small town but…suddenly Amber’s sister disappears, Amber is contacted by the bad guys and told to come in or she will be brought in and…she runs.
Gage, contacted by mysterious McCabe, agrees to meet up with Amber and provide for her safety. From the moment Gage and Amber meet their lives are in danger and if caught their deaths will not be easy. With two bad guys and the thugs they send after them out for blood it is a chase fraught with suspense as they thwart the bad guys…for the most part. Gage does call upon some intriguing friends during the chase and they end up visiting some interesting places. Through it all both Amber and Gage are tough, tenacious and willing to do what it takes to stay free and eventually try to free Rachel. I am hoping Gage’s friend Bear will have a story of his own and that McCabe will, too. This series could be finished in a trilogy or…if other characters show up then perhaps more than three books will be required.
The book ends with some revelations that are good and some not so good. There is no real cliffhanger BUT the story is not quite finished because the truly evil wicked top dog of a bad guy, James Mockerie, still is alive and needs to be brought down.
I did have to suspend belief after one of Gage’s injuries and move from the book being truly believable to fantasy or believe that the hero had supernatural healing abilities and the heroine had a medical skill set most laypeople do not but with that thought dealt with and then tucked away in the corner of my RN mind I kept reading and thoroughly enjoyed the book. AND am eager to read what comes next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
