Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in Dark in Death, by J.D. Robb, the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense, and takes on a case of death imitating art… It was a stab in the dark. On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan’s neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times … the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel’s best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel’s blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.
Then, as Eve Dallas puzzles over a homicide that seems carefully planned and yet oddly personal, she receives a tip from an unexpected source: an author of police thrillers who recognizes the crime–from the pages of her own book. Dallas doesn’t think it’s coincidence, since a recent strangulation of a sex worker resembles a scene from her writing as well. Cops look for patterns of behavior: similar weapons, similar MOs. But this killer seems to find inspiration in someone else’s imagination, and if the theory holds, this may be only the second of a long-running series.
The good news is that Eve and her billionaire husband Roarke have an excuse to curl up in front of the fireplace with their cat, Galahad, reading mystery stories for research. The bad news is that time is running out before the next victim plays an unwitting role in a murderer’s deranged private drama–and only Eve can put a stop to a creative impulse gone horribly, destructively wrong.
From the author of Echoes in Death, this is the latest of the edgy, phenomenally popular police procedurals that Publishers Weekly calls “inventive, entertaining, and clever.”

The “Death” series needs to be started at the beginning for the first half dozen or so books in order to follow character development (and make you care one way or another about them)
I love this series. The murder mystery is always well done, but the relationships between all the characters is even better. If you haven’t read any In Death books be sure to read them in order as the relationships build over time.
I am a great fan of J.D. Robb, have read all her books.
Okay I must admit I’m only about 3/4 of the way through it, but so far so great. A little different than her usual as she gives a glimpse into the world of an author and the downside of an adoring public. I thought I had it figured out in the first chapter-so, so wrong. And isn’t that why the world loves J D Robb?
I own every book J D Robb has written, but wanted a Kindle version to revisit old friends as I wait in Dr offices, airports etc. I really love these books.
Wonderful book. Read all her books. They are exciting and unpredictable
I loved it. I have read all In Death Books and most of Nora Robert’s books. She is the greatest writer I have ever read. I read them all over and over.
I luv J.D. Robb Death series. This series is fabulous. Hard to put book down. The characters are brought to life and makes you feel you know them personally.
Avid reader of Det Eve Dallas. This is my least favorite of this series, especially with the cost of this book
Nora Roberts (AKA) J.D Robb, never lets me down when I buy a book. One problem she needs to write faster.
Love all the J D ROBB series
Not as good as the others in the series but still worth the read.
Great futuristic police procedural with great romance included. Loved the entire series, can’t wait for the next one.
My favorite series and this one did not disappoint!!
Loved it any book by JD Robb/ Nora roberts
Love all of her series. This book continues well. Very good.
Not as quite at the level of most of the series. Still worth reading.
As usual J D Robb doesn’t disappoint!!! I have been reading this series for years and am just as excited when the new ones come out as I was back when. This is my favorite series, favorite characters, favorite stories, yadda yadda yadda. And that’s saying alot! sorry Stephanie Plum…..
J.D. Robb at her best. She always has a new angle of crime and a creative way of solving it.
I always enjoy J.D. Robb and this is no exception. I have read all the “In Death” books and I have enjoyed them immensely.
