Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in Dark in Death, by J.D. Robb, the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense, and takes on a case of death imitating art… It was a stab in the dark. On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan’s neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times … the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel’s best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel’s blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.
Then, as Eve Dallas puzzles over a homicide that seems carefully planned and yet oddly personal, she receives a tip from an unexpected source: an author of police thrillers who recognizes the crime–from the pages of her own book. Dallas doesn’t think it’s coincidence, since a recent strangulation of a sex worker resembles a scene from her writing as well. Cops look for patterns of behavior: similar weapons, similar MOs. But this killer seems to find inspiration in someone else’s imagination, and if the theory holds, this may be only the second of a long-running series.
The good news is that Eve and her billionaire husband Roarke have an excuse to curl up in front of the fireplace with their cat, Galahad, reading mystery stories for research. The bad news is that time is running out before the next victim plays an unwitting role in a murderer’s deranged private drama–and only Eve can put a stop to a creative impulse gone horribly, destructively wrong.
From the author of Echoes in Death, this is the latest of the edgy, phenomenally popular police procedurals that Publishers Weekly calls “inventive, entertaining, and clever.”

Love the future with robb. It’s not so far in advance as to be unbelievable. the characters and story lines are believable.
I like this book I have loved The Who series so far
I’ve read every Eve Dallas mystery and love the way JD Robb keeps developing this character, as well as all of the supporting characters. I want to live to see this world and time, to see just how closely she’s gotten. The mystery behind the characters is icing on the cake.
The entire J. D. Robb In Death series is amazing.
I love anything by JD Robb (Nora Roberts). This series is wonderful and you become very invested in the characters as you read more and more of them. I thought this installment was one of her best; it had excellent writing and reminded me of why I started reading this series in the first place. I love the characters. I got my mother interested in these a few years back and now it is a race to see who will get the next book read first! We both love them!
I loved reading the book .
Love J. D. Robb! Great near future crime story overlays tragedies such as child abuse and how adult survivors cope, how prostitution evolves and crime stays the some.
J D Rob never disappoints! I thought I had the killer figured out by the second chapter… I was wrong! Just the kind of book you can’t put down!
It’s a good next chapter into Eve and Roarks Story and even better I think we’re getting closer to finding the candy thief.
I love reading her series. I love how the character evolve. The books can be read by themselves or read the whole see is in order.
Terrific story and characters. Interesting plot
I love all her books. The characters are funny and entertaining. I love her hard personality but soft when it comes Roarke. Also, her interactions with her staff.
A thoroughly enjoyable read with quite a few laugh out loud moments for me.
A well-paced and entertaining ride along as Eve and the gang try to stop a cuckoo wanna be writer from committing another murder, in her own twisted version of how her book is better than the real authors.
Once again I really enjoyed the pace of this book. Strong and steady with a bit of hectic and some serious fan girl and boy, going on with rockstars and author celebrities appearing.
Laughed at Feeney having the sulks with Eve.
Loved when Bella was in Eve’s office and copied Eve’s swear words, how funny, cute and so true.
Some nice downtime with Roarke which I always love as it shows their relationship getting stronger and deeper. Eves attitude to the house being Somerset free was so entertaining.
Not quite sure how I have missed this one coming out months ago but better late than never.
Have the next book on order.
I have finished reading the entire series again. I love these books all 46 of them and I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. Love the characters. This is the 3rd time I have read the entire series. Love this author and all of her books!
It was typical of the J. D. Robb style. Highly imaginative and predictive of future technology.
This is again an outstanding book with a great set of characters.
All of the Death series books are Wonderful! I’ve read them all and eagerly await the next every time!
I love the entire In Death series and Dark In Death is no exception. I adore the imperfect relationship between Eve and Roark. Can’t wait until the next one comes out.
Loved reading t!
First book I ever read from this author…. definitely out of order, but have read every other book she has written since…
