From author Eve L. Mitchell comes Book 2 in the Boulder Series, a steamy, slow-burn love story about an unapologetic male and unexpected love.
Nice guys finish last. It’s a motto I live by. In my world, it pays to be the bad guy—and I’m very good at being bad. I have a thriving business built on blood, sweat and tears—literally. Illegal fights are my bread and butter, and no one interferes with … bread and butter, and no one interferes with that. Including an expensive-looking, blue-eyed blonde with a mouth that just won’t quit.
Babysitting Lela Morgan starts out as a favour to a “friend,” but quickly becomes more despite my cruel words and her bad attitude. But if there’s one thing I cannot afford to become in this world, it is soft. So I will fight against her charms. I will fight against her bratty behaviour and the way she pushes all my buttons.
As our relationship grows, I realise I’m in danger of losing control—and that’s never happened before. Ever. When all hell breaks loose will my bad guy rep still be intact? And more importantly, will my heart?
*This is an Enemies to Lovers, New Adult Romance.

I really couldn’t get enough of Aaron and Lela! Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes to read, and this book did not disappoint! The author just sucked me in with her words! I could not put it down!
This book is amazing! This author is a genius. I love how Aaron is this tough guy who kicks ass and takes names but has a softer side, even though he really doesn’t want anyone to know it. I really liked that some of the characters from Indian Summer made an appearance. Definitely a must read!
I thought I knew how Dark Heart was going to end. I DID NOT! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found it to be a quick read, which in my book makes it a great book. When I find a book able to capture my attention and hold it page to page, I know I have found an author with true story telling abilities. Eve L. Mitchell has built on one story, Indian Summer, and found a way to share the same universe with her readers from a completely new AND different perspective. I loved reading Aaron’s perspective. I have recommended this book and Indian Summer to everyone I know who is interested in reading and even those who aren’t! I recommend you get this book and treat yourself to a story both enthralling and quite a bit risqué in the most enjoyable way.
I look forward to Eve L. Mitchell’s next book!
This book is so yummy! I love how the author chose to write Aaron’s story, he’s kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I love all the characters and the personalities in the story! If your looking for something steamy grab this book!!
Dark Heart was a first for me by this author. And I will say that I will be adding her work to my TBR list.
Aaron and Lela’s relationship was definitely one that started out as them being enemies. Their back and forth was one that had me shaking my head and saying, “come on already”. There was an obvious attraction, but they were really stubborn. That and Aaron had a lot of other factors at play when it comes to his life.
Their attraction and back and forth is what grabbed and kept my attention. And I will say that this book is one that I would recommend for a good read.
I wasn’t sure what to think of this book after reading Indian Summer but was stoked that as it was about Aaron it was darker just like his attitude as well as seeing he has the hard gruff side as well as the soft and protective side. Lela is all sorts of mixed up but you start to see why and can sympathize with her, but good lord that girl does not know when to stop and check herself….. brat! Be ready for plenty of emotions, twists and surprises, betrayal, celebrations and a whole lot of steamy attraction and interludes.
I think Eve L. Mitchell has writing broody alphaholes down to an art. This book had me wanting to rage, made me cry, made me laugh and of course had me swooning right along with all that. If you’ve been longing for some good angst in an enemies to lovers read with a good dose of suspense look no further than Dark Heart.
I haven’t had a hero make me want to punch him and then hug him this much in I can’t tell you how long. Aaron is a flat out jerk at times, but when this man loves he loves hard. He’s definitely not the person who’s jumping for joy at babysitting a woman with a boat load of baggage, and he’s certainly not one to coddle her either. Especially when she’s the stepdaughter of a man he doesn’t even like. Where Aaron is harsh Lela is fragile, at least in the beginning. Struggling with her own issues and being flung into her mother’s lap, a mother who isn’t even there, she thrust right into Aaron’s world.
There is no sweet to these two for quite some time. Their chemistry is intense and the sparks certainly fly from the second they meet but it’s quick into enemy territory with these two. They battle it out while resisting that pull as long as they can, but ultimately love (and lust) win out.
Dark Heart was my very first book by Eve L.Mitchell and definitely won’t be the last one. This novel has every crucial element to fall in love immediately: an excellent writing style(for me,it’s highly important, I can easily put aside promising novel if it’s poorly written), some great suspense moments and heartbreaking characters. Aaron Jonson is not your typical bad boy, I loved his character and him as a person.
The trope of this novel is enemies to lovers, I won’t lie this particular trope is easy to fail, I witness it in books too many times, but Dark Heart is almost flawless in this sense. Mitchel has managed to find that perfect combination to balance such kind of stories and made it believable.
To tell the long story short, this beautiful new novel will melt and break your hearts and it’s highly recommended!
Ok, I absolutely love the cover of this book, I fell head over heels for the characters and the storyline is dark, gritty but also full of so much love. Eve did a fantastic job with the writing, the humor of the banter and snippy attitudes between Aaron and Lela are just perfect. I also absolutely fell in love with Shadow and his amazing and feisty little wife. I FLOVE this book, I mean seriously FLOVE it. I will definitely be rereading it and I 100% recommend it to anyone that enjoys slightly dark romance.
I enjoyed this book a lot and even though Aaron was the biggest jerk I have ever read I did love him. He was absolutely brutally honest about everything and anything, from the beginning he allows his brother to be beat down and ran out of town and trust me his brother deserved it and some, but Aaron didn’t even blink an eye and was the one that said for his friend to do it. He is set up to have to help take care of a guy’s step daughter and from the start he already holds a certain amount of animosity towards her, Lela. Lela is said to be a trouble maker of sorts and having her life spiraling out of control, this is where I found my issues with the book because yes she did take some drugs recreationally with friends while they were out partying she never seemed like a true junkie to me. Aaron and his friends kept referring to her as “a junkie” or “the junkie” even to her face and to me that was a little bit too cruel because even if she was you don’t address people that way to help them and you can’t say it was tough love because they could care less about Lela. Also if she was a junkie she never exhibited the characteristics of one, she never had withdrawals, she never went out looking to buy drugs, she never tried to steal to get drugs, all in all the book said she got caught once and then she got high ONE other time in the story so I was very upset they were so cruel to her when they call her a junkie and treat her like a pariah even if they were into some not so legal dealings themselves and drinking around her. Other than that I did enjoy Aaron and Lela’s push and pull, and eventually they did get their stuff figured out to end up together.
Yup I definitely think I’ve found a new book boyfriend!!! At first I just wanted to kick Aaron’s ass especially because of how he treated Lela in the beginning but then when you get dragged deeper into his mindset you have to really full in love with him because he’s just really looking after everyone with very little thought of himself. I laughed out loud with majority of the interactions with Shadow they are just too funny but their friendship and loyalty to each other is truly a fantastic thing. Brilliantly written can’t wait to read book 3…..so off I go
how can i go past Aaron’s story? this is a favourite series and go to for some fun escapism.
Dark Heart is a contemporary enemies to lovers story, that will take you on an intense journey with Aaron Jonson and Lela Morgan (aka Brat).
Aaron is a tough guy, but not completely heartless. I love that no matter how the story progresses the underlying personality of Aaron’s character is solid throughout the book.
The development of his relationships and the storyline are wonderfully captivating and perfectly written.
There’s some truly beautiful and touching moments throughout the story, which turned me into an emotional wreck. But at the same time the underlying suspense of where the story was going, had me deeply drawn in and I wanted more and more with each turn of the page.
Again Eve L Mitchell has blown me away with her writing skills and I can’t wait to read the next book she releases.
I highly recommend Dark Heart, which is a little darker and more mature than Eve L Mitchell’s Indian Summer.
Side note: Dark Heart is set in the same world as Indian Summer, and can be read as a stand-alone if needed. But if you haven’t already read Indian Summer, I definitely recommend reading it first. Not only to give you some background to this world, but because this is also a wonderfully written story and there are some character cross overs.
