While I wasn’t over the moon about the author duo first co-production, individually I love their works and I had a feeling that Dark glitter is going to be way better. OH BOY, was it better, beyond imagination! I absolutely loved every minute of this dark and sensual fantasy romance and if I would go only by how much I enjoyed the story then the book definitely would get 5+ stars. However there were a couple of things that bothered me so I decided to reflect this by giving only 4.5 stars. But let’s start at the beginning.
I’m not going to analyze the writing style since I did that in a couple of other reviews of books by the authors, I’m only going to say that both of them has an awesome but different style yet they combine their craft beautifully. It not only works together but really engaging and easy to read, has quite a dynamic flow to it. I would say that heavy dark atmosphere is more C.M. Stunich style but I think Tate James also has a bit of a gruesome flare, only not as explored yet.
What I loved most about this story was the utilization of the Wild hunt motive and the phenomenal way the authors combined it with modern elements, like the MC. Combining these effects leads to a hierarchy that lets the whole reverse harem thingy and the public displays be a more believable part of the story. I personally, don’t really like fae stories but this premise is so intriguing and interesting that I couldn’t put the book down.
I think the plot has a lot of promise and quite a few different directions to go and while I enjoyed the progress the characters took towards their goal I also felt a bit confused here and there regarding the events. I just feel that for one the world building is lacking in places, not huge things that some little details that let you navigate the storyline better. Also I found it a bit strange that a lot of huge things simply are not addressed, leaving them open and out there, and however it doesn’t mean they won’t be in future books.
The story is narrated by different POV, so far 4 if I remember correctly, alternating between the different members of the RH, but mainly by Ciarah.
I loved her character, especially her duality with the young human persona and the ageless goddess. I loved how they put this duality in use, which helped to make the fact that her broken and clueless self could became a powerful and commanding persona by a snap of a finger. That saying, sometimes her ‘goddess’ self entitlement annoyed me a bit. I enjoyed how she discovered herself and how despite her brokenness she stood her ground facing every danger.
As for the men in the harem, I liked them, especially Reece even if he and Killian are kinda in the background if it comes to Arlo. They all represent a hugely different personality but all of them are alpha males whom need to learn submitting to Ciarah whims. What bothered me a bit was the whole accent thing written out. That was just annoying; I didn’t like it a bit. But I could overlook it because of the brilliance of the story.
There is one more thing that wasn’t my fave thing about this story was the way it went about sex. While it could have been steamy, okay it was too, for me the way they did the sexual scenes, the whole public display, demanding, no care in the world atmosphere just took away something from it. Not the sensuality maybe a bit of the intimacy and thanks to this for me it felt a bit clinical, sterile or more like as if having sex is just another bodily function like breathing and the emotional element just wasn’t there.
Anyway I loved the book and can’t wait for the next one especially after the way it ended. It was EPIC!! Thanks to the authors for the opportunity to read it early.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Okay it’s official the combination of these two lovely ladies causes the creation of some amazing books with this one being no exception that I was unable to stop reading once I got started. It is filled with incredible world building that is so vivid I honestly felt like I was there. This was created with a mass of details that were all worked very nicely into the story line so as not to overwhelm but enough to answer the questions as soon as you though of them. Then we get the characters that have so many facets to them that I was blown away and when they start putting them together it really gets good. This story took me on an emotional roller coaster that had me feeling everything from sadness, pain, love, excitement, rage, laughter, and so much more without even getting the steamy parts that make it an RH novel to begin with. I have decided that I absolutely must read absolutely anything that is written by this incredible duo. If you enjoy paranormal romance novels that just happen to be RH in nature then you really have to give this book or try but to be truthful I think you should read it anyways as it is that good. I loved it so very much so it gets 5/5 stars and I will so be getting my hands on the next installment so I can see what happens next (I have already pre-ordered it to be exact). Mind officially blown!!
