One night would never be enough … say he wasn’t mine.
But that would be a lie.
Together, we’re fire. Even though I know I should save myself, there’s part of me that wants to stoke the flames…even if it burns my whole life to the ground.
Blake
I’m an addict.
Penelope Green is my drug of choice, and I indulge in her every chance I get.
The more time we spend together, the more I crave. I want to crawl inside her and never leave. I want—no, need—to possess her.
But my past is as dark as her eyes, and not everyone is willing to leave it buried.
Someone is out to expose me. He wants what’s mine.
Setting her free is the right thing to do.
Too bad I’ve never been any good at doing the right thing.

‘Dark Descent into Desire’ by JJ Sorel is not just an adult novel full of lust and desire, but also a tense thriller that will kept me turning page after page, right up until the end.
This sin;t usual the sort of book I would read, but with things all seeming a little strange at the moment, a little bit of escapism was just what I needed.
This latest offering from J J Sorel is sure to be a hit amongst her many loyal followers and new readers alike. It is an adult novel based in modern-day London but with a dark, gothic feel. The genre is somewhat hard to define, as the story has multiple layers. There are themes running through the book of romance, action, suspense, mystery, and adventure, so it promises to appeal to a wide audience.
The two sizzling lead characters, Penny and Blake, are well developed, being both incredibly intriguing yet still somehow relatable. These characters hook the reader from the very first page and leave you thinking about them long after you put the book down. They have a steadily developing relationship, dripping with lust and passion, that sees the chemistry almost sparking out from between the pages. The story is beautifully written, with vivid descriptions that transport the reader away. It is tantalizing escapism.
The characters were so well defined and the storyline was so well written that I was totally enthralled as each and every page was turned until the very last page!
“Dark Descent into Desire”, by J.J. Sorel, is aptly titled. There is a dark descent into desire here, and the author is the one to take you there.
This isn’t your average billionaire romance story, and to call it chick lit would be a gross disservice, although there are some chick lit passages and phrases. One might be tempted to search for similarities that echo “50 Shades of Grey,” but “Dark Descent into Desire” is deeper and richer, thanks to Sorel’s wording and character-building skills. The characters are credible and seem fully fleshed-out; not just caricatures tossed into a Gothic romance salad. Penny and Blake are people you could know in your own life, and live with issues that you can relate to–a parent with substance use issues? Co-dependency? Dysfunction? Secrets? A yearning to escape and be loved?
But besides the interesting elements of the characters, the novel uses multi-faceted plot lines that are solid enough, but–and here goes my slight criticism–there are a couple of scenes that are borderline creepy and violent, but I won’t give spoilers here. Rather than the explicit sex scenes, I found myself more interested in how Blake and Penny slowly reveal themselves and their secrets to each other, and the thread of addiction in all its forms running through the fabric of the story. These frank scenes take nothing from Sorel’s wonderful writing, however, and the build of the couple’s relationship is suspenseful, the payoff well-earned.
The starving-artist-meets-damaged-billionaire aspect is appealing in its own right. After all, opposites do attract, and create conflict and drama, sometimes with devastating results. But it’s the way Sorel writes the story that keeps the reader invested. She has a poet’s way with words, a classical approach to language while using modern phrasing and situations, with stiletto attention to details and descriptions. Penny and Blake are so realized that you want to read more about them, and you aren’t happy that the story has to end, even though it must. It’s easy to get lost in this story. And isn’t that what a good romance should be about?
If you think you aren’t a fan of Gothic romance, you’ve been reading the wrong books for too long. Give “Dark Descent into Desire” a chance, and you will discover a new twist on an old genre hidden between the covers.
Australian author J.J. Sorel is a professional dancer, flamenco being her specialty. She earned a certificate in Writing Romance with the Australian College of Journalism and began to follow her passion – writing steamy contemporary romance novels of the sort that entice those who love the Chick Lit genre.
One of the reasons JJ’s novel DARK DESCENT INTO DESIRE is so successful is her fine tuned sense of mixing suspense and mystery with erotica. She creates characters that are wholly credible – Blake Sinclair, a hunky nouveau riche guy who frequents sex clubs and we meet Blake with his friend James in a conversation that tells a lot – ‘I’m filthy rich, James.” “But its new wealth, isn’t it?” My beginnings were anything but classy, I liked to think of myself as a man of taste who’d cultivated an interest for the finer things. Why be rich otherwise?” And then we meet artist Penelope, a young girl who cares for her addict mother and the manner in which JJ interweaves these disparate types is what makes the novel ring true.
There is a hint of the classic, classy writing form JJ uses in Penelope’s caring for her overdosed mother – ‘One never got used to this kind of thing. As a twenty-three year old, I felt helpless and eaten by grief. She stirred, and the breath that was stuck in my throat finally collapsed. “Whose that?” she asked. If a zombie could talk, it would sound like my mother on junk – slurry and vague. “It’s me. Penny.” Fury pumped through me…’’ That is how JJ pulls open the proscenium curtain for this erotically charged tale.
The synopsis is seductive – ‘One night would never be enough …Penelope – Blake Sinclair always gets what he wants. And what he wants now? Me. Everything about him screams danger. Every arrogant, sexy inch of him. A smart woman would walk away. Apparently, I’m a fool. I didn’t just give him my heart. I gave him my virginity. Now I’m his new obsession. I wish I could say he wasn’t mine. But that would be a lie. Together, we’re fire. Even though I know I should save myself, there’s part of me that wants to stoke the flames… even if it burns my whole life to the ground. Blake – I’m an addict. Penelope Green is my drug of choice, and I indulge in her every chance I get. The more time we spend together, the more I crave. I want to crawl inside her and never leave. I want – no, need – to possess her. But my past is as dark as her eyes, and not everyone is willing to leave it buried. Someone is out to expose me. He wants what’s mine. Setting her free is the right thing to do. Too bad I’ve never been any good at doing the right thing’
This is one finely scribed novel that is rich in steamy erotica and yet goes beyond the usual Chick Lit realm because of the fine character flaws that tie it together. Recommended.
Two strong characters in this book which is the first one I have read by this author. She has written a delectable story that has lots of suspense, intrigue and steamy romance.

Shame in good company – A steamy and suspenseful read
—>>> Penny and Blake definitely have a lot of ghosts and shame in their closets to hide. The only difference is, Penny is still living with hers in the present, while Blake has buried his deeply in the past and miles away. Perhaps too deeply, as it has a way of seeping into his present, especially when his instant obsession with a gifted, intelligent, and beautiful artist has him losing his control, needing her more than he has never needed any woman in his past. Warnings and very tangible reminders of his past, however, slowly take over and affect his life, and we are pulled along in suspense when the threats become a reality in the lives of Penelope and others in his life. A steamy and suspenseful read.
This is a dark billionnaire romance. The characters are intriguing and the storyline is different but entertaining.

I really enjoyed this story. The story contained Penelope’s point of view and Blake’s point of view which led to the reader being able to understand both main character’s intentions and personal feelings. We were able to know where the characters were coming from when they acted certain ways. The story was extremely steamy. I enjoyed the story and was wondering the whole time what was going to happen. I was left feeling sorry for James and wish that there would be a story about him finding a happy ending.

Dark Descent into Desire by J J Sorel is the story of Blake Sinclair and Penelope ‘Penny’ Green.
Blake didn’t grow up very well and one of the issues was Dylan Fox. But now Blake is an adult who doesn’t do love but only does instant gratification with sex and never the two shall meet. But then he meets Penelope who catches his eye. But her art also catches his attention too. When he does get to take her he finds that he can’t seem to just walk away. Then something happens that he has to fight against when his past starts to try to ruin his future. Enjoyed this book.
