BDSM Erotic Romance [Reprint]
After Kari breaks up with her date during Beginner’s Night at Club Shadowlands, she’s given the option to continue with an experienced dominant. Despite her steamy fantasies about BDSM, the inexperienced schoolteacher plans to simply observe. Yet under the unyielding hands of Master Dan, she not only participates, but gives him everything he asks for. There is … There is nothing she can hide from him. Not her passion…or her love.
Still mourning the death of his wife, Master Dan avoids getting involved with women and he never takes a sub twice. But this modest little beginner is such a sweetie, one night is far from enough. As he plumbs her responses, taking her ever deeper into the world of BDSM, the gentle submissive begins to show him how barren his life has become and what a dark citadel he’s made of his heart.
During their three nights together, the teacher will learn to submit…can she teach the master to love?

I love how the author writes such wonderful, and believable characters. I do think in these first few books that the characterisation of the women is stronger than that of the men, though in part that could be due to spending the majority of the time in their heads. Whilst it’s not surprising that I feel more of a connection to Kari (and Jessica), especially as I can identify with them on a whole host of levels, I also felt that their emotions are examined in more depth.
Master Dan was still well written and had most certainly had depth. And boy does he treat Kari to some super hot play times. So much so that I may need to buy some new batteries ! The kink is still fairly tame, though this had significantly more exhibitionism and mild humiliation in it, which I definitely enjoyed. Even though the whole story occured over a less than a week, the amount of time Kari and Dan spent together, along with the intensity of those meetings, was enough to convince me of the connection between them.
I really, really enjoyed this story and am off to read the next book, Breaking Free.

Kari saw a different side to her date when they arrived at the club and decides to leave when Z said that she can continue with Master Dan.
Master Dan knew that there was something about Kari, but since the death of his wife he doesn’t want a submissive but he’s willing to help teach her and although she looked all prim and proper he knew she was a submissive and learning of her upbringing knew it was going to be hard for her to let go.
Master Dan keeps reminding her he’s training her he can’t give her more. Deciding that not to go to the club, she’s surprised when Master Dan turns up to offer to take her. While playing in the gardens and her date corners her Master Dan makes sure he knows not to touch her.
Master Z always the match maker tells Kari that Master Dan’s defences are down, if she runs, he will catch you. Will Kari get Master Dan to love again or will he walk away.
I deeply related to Kari’s sweetness and light, as well as her sense of being a fish out of water in the BDSM scene. She struggles between being turned on by it and feeling like there’s something wrong with her. I also liked the way she came to trust Master Dan with the care and pleasuring of her body. Still grieving the loss of his wife, Dan isn’t interested in taking a sub for more than one night, but the combination of Kari’s innocence and passion gets under his skin. I enjoyed the way he eases Kari into the lifestyle, gradually working his way past her fears and doubts. A scorching hot erotic love story with just the right touch of romance.
Hope we’re not getting into a rut…
Book 1 sets up the series, introducing us to Master Z, the other masters, and Shadowlands in general. Here in this book, we’re exploring the beginnings of Master Dan’s and Kari’s relationship, Master Dan having lost his wife and still mourns her while Kari wonders if she is a failure in the sex department because she can’t really get off. She and a dom wannabe by the name of Buck are taking an intro-to-BDSM at Shadowlands to see if they want to get involve in the kink. Buck really is quite immature, and after meeting mature and solid doms like Master Z, Master Dan, and Master Raoul, she realizes she hates Buck’s whininess and selfishness and jumps ship, siding with Master Dan who is only willing to demonstrate what it is to be a real sub… but only for one night. Since the death of his wife, he can’t get over her, but it is always more than just that. Kari recognizes the genius that is Master Dan as a superb dom, but she is disappointed when told by others that he never takes on a sub for more than one night. Maybe he needs to relook at himself in a more-than-honest light as he demands of her. The sub isn’t the only one that must be honest in a dom/sub relationship.
Nice story… but I get this feeling that I will be seeing repeats of the same over and over again in subsequent books in this series. That’s my fear. I’m already seeing repeat descriptive phrases and responses in Book 2 that were rather original in Book 1. What does that bode for me in Book 3? If I see more of the same, Book 3 might be the furthest I’ll go in this series. I can’t stand repeats, even with TV series, let alone book series.
One of the reviewers of Book 1 complained about the lack of consent. I did not find that to be a problem because we are talking about someone who could be thought of as a mind reader (technically not as clear as a telepath, mind you). But the writer prepared me for that tug on my suspension of disbelief. I didn’t find that as a problem. I have met a few counselors who could do it to a certain extent, so it’s nothing knew. However, Master Dan does not even brag of telepathy, only that he is quite observant as he should be being that he is a detective. The good ones know how to interpret human body language and understand motives hidden behind behavior. There were some extremely grey areas in which the reviewer was more correct but about Book 2, not Book 1. I don’t mind a little nonconsensual behavior, but as Master Dan pointed out more than once, if Kari didn’t want to do something, all she had to do was to say her safe word which had not been forthcoming. Weirdly enough, the only time she used it was to call over DMs when Buck was trying to beat the crap out of Master Dan. So I still don’t see a problem regarding lack of consent. Perhaps the reviewer has his/her own version of what s/he allows in his/her world of BSDM. Makes me wonder if s/he truly is a practitioner of BSDM rather than just a reader of BSDM. There is a difference.
The above begs for me to question a weakness in the choice of protagonists. Are they always going to be some obnoxious dom who doesn’t care to follow the rules of Shadowlands? And why are these rule breakers being allowed in Shadowlands in the first place if Master Z can read minds and intents? Okay, so Buck was too immature, but there was that dreadful creep in Book 1 that groped Jessica inappropriately, even according to Shadowlands’ rules. Don’t know.
One of the things I never thought I’d encounter was a novel in which the POV switches over like craaaaazy! AUGH!! Even in the same paragraph!! I couldn’t believe it! I knew there were some irregularities in Book 1, but that can be just a person’s style. Well, in this book, it was a real grammatical error of the worst kind. If this continues in Book 3, then I won’t be reading any further in this series.
So… I guess it all hinges on Book 3 now whether or not I’ll continue the series. I’ll let you know.
Great author, really like how she builds a series! While the focus was on Dan and Kari, I got to keep up with Z and Jessica. Can’t wait to read the next book. Flow is great, easy to read, hard to put down! Very hot!
Loved the entire series!
Master Z is the owner of club shadowland..one night Jessica wrecks her car and is in need of help when she stumbles across club shadowland. She receives in introduction to BDSM and love.
I own this series! I have read them through at least 5 times! I love the characters! Very steaming and a great BDSM world and family!
Excellent series.

4 Solid Stars
While I liked ‘Master of The Shadowlands’ better, I still really liked this one too.
This one seems centered on ‘Self-Discovery’ and ‘Courage’. At least for Kari.
I liked Kari more than Dan.
Both are great characters. I just think Kari was the more courageous and honest of the two.
Dan definitely had a lot of baggage he needed to let go of. He seems determined to ignore the truth and punish himself.
There is some great humorous sayings that make you grin & giggle.
There are some really intense moments. Some of these are heartbreaking and some are erotic.
Speaking of erotic……..
You will feel the tingle from the top of your head down to your toes. The adult romance is electric!
A fun and fast paced adult romance that will leave you craving ‘MORE’!

OMG….I loved this book. I have to say Dan is an idiot. Since I don’t do spoilers that will be all I say about it, so go get the book and see how I can say that. A well written story and characters who you will love. Please remember the story is BDSM when your getting it, so if that isn’t something you like to read you shouldn’t get this one. Cherise Sinclair is a wonderful author and I can always count on getting a great story. She is one of my go to authors. A wonderful book and a great series.
Cherise Sinclair leads her readers on an erotic journey with the sensual word pictures she pens. Her characters have depth, strength, and flaws. Humor, melancholy, grief, anger, frustration and so much more are interwoven in an evenly paced storyline.
Master Dan has been clinging to his grief like a badge of honor for the past three years. He is stuck in a cold hollow place. Taking on Kari as a D/s classe trainee he pushes all her goid Catholic girl sensibilities and boundaries. Kari spends as much time being embarrassed as she does being aroused by Master Dan. Each time she sees him, he tells her it’s the last and yet he keeps showing up for more. No matter how great the sex is or how well he masters her body, she deserves more and resolves to walk away. Master Z encourages her to give ir one more try. She agrees and ends up with her Prince Charming.
