Few guys are as boring as Jacob Parker, and moving in with his best friend, Maggie, seems like a good idea at the time. At her place, having walked out on a toxic relationship, he’s set about rebuilding his life. Well, that’s his plan until weird things start happening to him. They aren’t the kind of occurrences you can tell people about—unless you want them to think you’re crazy. But events come … come to a head when somebody or something starts trying to kill him. Like it or not, Jacob’s life has become stranger and more dangerous by the minute and is set to get a whole lot worse.
As far as angels go, Galizur has never been particularly ambitious, which is just as well, having screwed up big time on his first and only assignment as a Guardian Angel. Since then, he’s been working in Purgatory, the most boring job that Heaven has to offer. So, when The Archangel Gabrielle summons him, he can scarcely believe his luck when she offers him the chance to redeem himself. Finally, things are looking up for Galizur, that’s unless he manages to stuff things up like he did the last time.
Events are moving fast, and the day of reckoning, the Apocalypse, is approaching. Gabrielle controls Heaven, The Boss is little more than a figurehead, and she has one thing left to do before all hell breaks loose. A handful of angels and other creatures stand in the way of her ambition, and they need to be taken care of. Only when they’re no longer around and a threat to her, can Gabrielle turn her attention to Lucifer and Hell. Enter Galizur, such a naïve, obedient angel, one that will be the perfect stooge. He’ll lead her to those that would oppose her, and when he has, she’ll get rid of the lot of them. However, Galizur is not what he seems—events may not go the way she intends.

What I Think: Jacob is losing his mind while my slightly sadistic self is already anticipating events to come because I know this will be a crazy ride. I went through the most bizarre conversation ever because in that one conversation, I lost my temper, then got worried, then laughed and fell in lust. All at once! His bestie is the bestie that other besties want to be and you wish you had. Next, I was introduced to a real dark angel. It was such a pleasant surprise that, Oh, be still my heart! As if that wasn’t enough to get me hooked on this tale, my darling Jacob has no filter which I’m realizing I love. I’m more like bubbly magma covered with diplomacy and a charming smile which I would rather not have but you know, adulting and all that. So I’m fascinated by those who don’t need or use it. As events occur to further drive Jacob insane, I found myself breathless and waiting for things to go really wrong because if this is the start, then Jacob and I need to be sure we’re not losing our minds. I never knew a voice could be described as rich and fruity therefore orgasmic which, somehow, makes perfect sense. Galizur’s patience is epic because even though I love Jacob, I’m about to smack okro seeds from his mouth if he doesn’t get on with the telling of his earlier years. Only for the telling to add sorrow, which the truth did not abate. The blasphemy in this tale makes it even more delicious for being so realistic. I thought Jacob was much younger than he really is as his behavior seems much more youthful and now I want to smack him for making an already difficult situation even more difficult. Only for another pang of terror to strike my heart as Jacob faces another near-miss. It’s a phobia he and I both share which made me start pacing. The anxiety! Then things ratcheted up even further and all this is before the halfway point of this tale! As more bitter truths are revealed to be followed by more bitter truths, another phobia of mine occurs just as another myth is debunked. My heart ached for Galizur, just as it did for Denardi. I can’t stand injustice and even though I don’t like what Denardi became, I still want to go to war on his behalf. But I wanted to wrap myself around Galizur because he’s so vulnerable, pure and so damn focused. Eventually, I forgave Jacob because as he begins to trust himself more and dig down deep to find who he really is, pulling off things that are simply unbelievable, I find myself trapped in more fascination. By the time I reached the end, I wanted only one thing – the follow-up because I know both of these men are going to evolve and I can’t wait to see what happens. Let’s not forget that Heaven and Hell are planning some major moves which I just have to know and the cliffhanger was a tease!
Verdict? A tale of the kind of fantasy a lot of us have had, with more dimensions of trouble than we could ever imagine and a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting!
