Another fantastic fast-paced and adrenaline-laced romantic suspense from Irene Hannon! The author always delivers intense action and high-level suspense in a well-written story with a believable and detailed plot, propelled by swoon-worthy heroes and noteworthy heroines; this book is no exception. The author also gives the villain a voice in the plot, which truly masks who the villain is until the very end (I love how she does that!). This book is the finale of the Code of Honor series but you don’t need to have read the first two books to enjoy this one. I did appreciate the cameo appearances of the characters from the first two books, though, as well as the lovable characters from Private Justice series (if you haven’t read those, you must read them).
Rick, a former army helicopter pilot turned camp owner, is loyal, protective, honest, tender, and trustworthy. When he comes in contact with mysterious clues left by an old army buddy, he hires a private investigator group to help find his friend. Heather is a former St. Louis detective who has decided to slow down her career by joining a premier PI group, all made up of former military and law enforcement. She’s thorough, dedicated, sweet, and loving….and, of course, sparks fly from their initial encounter. The clues they gather turn strange, mysterious, confusing, and quite nefarious as multiple suspects become implicated in a deliciously complex plot. If you enjoy a heart-pounding romantic suspense (from the romance AND the suspense), you will absolutely love this book and the series.
I received a copy of the book from Baker Publishing via Interviews & Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
It keeps you guessing until the end. Great suspense.
This was an enjoyable read. Nothing deep, but lots of action, good vs. evil, and of course, a love story. The characters were enjoyable and the plot was exciting, but not too far-fetched.
Irene Hannon doesn’t disappoint in this book. Her attention to detail has the plot unfold seamlessly and the characters are well developed and believable. There are so many twists and turns in this book as well as a blooming love interest that is plausible and clean. Since I am from St. Louis, a personal delight, is the familiar locations and sites that are the basis for the book. You will love this and not want to put it down!
Hard to put down! Love all your books!
This is number 3 in the Code of Honor Series and what a finish. You will need to hang on as things get dicey for Heather and Rick as things go south for them on a simple case of a missing person and turns deadly. There are things someone doesn’t want to be known. I so enjoyed this series and I believe you will also.
Suspense taking place in St. Louis! Rick Jordan is a wonder male protagonist as he works to find his former army buddy. Heather Shields is the private investigator Rick hires to locate his buddy but when more people turn up dead, Heather and her firm are determined to find the killer. St. Louis resident, Brad Weston, wants to be governor but can his past be kept secret? Heather’s firm has a policy against dating clients but the sparks fly between Rick and Heather! You will not want to miss this great book by Irene Hannon. Dark Ambitions is part of the Code of Honor series but can be read as a stand alone book. I recommend this fast paced book to anyone who enjoys contemporary suspense! I received Dark Ambitions through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
Irene Hannon’s writing has a depth that many authors do not have. The descriptions in the book make you feel part of the story, but they aren’t over the top that you want to skim page after page. There are many characters in the book, but it isn’t really that confusing. The author gives enough hints about who she is talking about that you recognise the character immediately. I thought I knew who the bad guy was, but I was totally surprised at the end. The ending was one that satisfies your need for justice.
Thank you Revell for an advanced copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Dark Ambitions
By: Irene Hannon
*REVIEW*
Although part of a series, Dark Ambitions reads fine as a standalone. This story is a solid mystery with believable elements, and the suspense is thrilling but not over the top. There are twists and turns. The main characters, Ryan and Heather, are out to solve a crime, and chemistry builds between them. The romantic aspect is an undercurrent and not at the center. I enjoyed this suspenseful dramatic read and hope to read more from the author.
A killer who will stop at nothing…
It’s been awhile since I’ve read one of Irene Hannon’s romantic suspense novels. Even though Dark Ambitions is the third book in the Code Of Honor series it sounded good and I knew from past experience that her books are usually somewhat standalone.
It’s not often that a book’s title matches its contents to perfection, but, Dark Ambitions does exactly that. Irene Hannon’s tale of greed, betrayal, murder, and misplaced love is a story of how ambition can spiral downward into a darkness that is hard to escape. It will also keep you guessing. I had my suspicions about the mastermind’s identity early on, nearly let the author sidetrack me several times, but I stuck with it, and, sure enough I was right.
As romantic suspense novels go Dark Ambitions was a good read. It kept me intrigued and entertained while allowing a few deeper thoughts to slip in. Irene Hannon has been a name in Christian romantic suspense for awhile now and it’s easy to see why. She balances just the right amounts of romantic tension and dangerous situations. Now, what I need to do is go back and read the previous books in the Code Of Honor series…
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This is a wonderful story in a wonderful series. This had a great amount of romance and even more suspense. I love the recurring characters and hope there are more books in this series. I love the twists and turns that made you wonder who the murderer really was. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Dark Ambitions
Code of Honor #3
By Irene Hannon
Rick Jordan needs help – a former army buddy is in trouble and he’s disappeared. When one of his best friends recommends Phoenix Inc. Rick becomes their newest client and case is given to Phoenix’s newest PI, ex-police detective Heather Shields.
When the camp he runs has a visitor who leaves behind clues as to his identity, Rick knows that an army buddy he hasn’t seen in over five needs his help. But with nothing to go on as to Boomer’s whereabouts, this may be an almost impossible case. But Heather isn’t dissuaded by the lack of information that Rick has. Using all the resources at her disposal she soon confirms that Boomer has indeed disappeared. The deeper she digs the more concerned she becomes that the outcome will not be favorable.
Soon it becomes apparent that someone has something to hide and that they are willing to do whatever is necessary to keep their secrets firmly hidden in the past. And anyone who gets too close becomes a target. But what secret is so closely guarded that no cost is too high? That is the question that Heather and Rick want to find out.
Dark Ambitions is the third book in the Code of Honor series which shares the story of Rick Jordan, the third member of the Treehouse Gang. This one throws in several other interesting side-threads that play out in a most interesting way. Let’s just say if you set out to deceive you may want to be careful because the web you weave may catch you so that you can never get free.
As with many of Irene Hannon’s works, this is a contemporary romantic suspense set in the St. Louis, Missouri vicinity. There is a steady build-up in the suspense and the identity of the perpetrator is well hidden with hints that offer potential suspects without completely revealing who is behind everything. Dark Ambitions is perfectly named and well worth the late-night reading that you’ll feel compelled to give this one.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion – all thoughts expressed are my own.
This book has all of the elements of classic suspense fiction! Non-stop action, constant doubts about ‘Who dun it?’, and an ending that kept my adrenaline at warp speed! Irene Hannon wraps up her Code of Honor series with an outstanding conclusion and it will make you want to go back to read the first two books, if you haven’t already.
Dark Ambitions is a tale of ambition gone bad and it is filled with kidnapping, sabotage, murder, and obsessive love. There is, however, a reminder that integrity and goodness still prevail in our world today as Army veteran Rick Jordan and private investigator Heather Shields work together to uncover the reason behind the murders of several innocent people. What has been covered up for so long and who needs for it to remain hidden? It is during this case that Rick and Heather realize that they may both want more than just a work collaboration in their futures!
This book is filled with good versus evil and obsessive, destructive love versus healthy, unselfish love. I recommend Dark Ambitions to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction and romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell but a positive review was not required. These are my own thoughts.
Once again Irene Hannon has provided me with a few hours of suspenseful reading that kept me on my toes as I tried to guess the person behind the various criminal deeds in her story. Each time I thought I had a good idea – and I suspect that was exactly what the author wanted me to think – another character turned up with equally good motives. I loved how the various aspects of the plot were so deftly interwoven. I also liked that even the guilty characters were portrayed with a somewhat sympathetic insight into their background that may well have influenced the direction their lives took.
Dark Ambitions has all the elements that are necessary for a good suspense novel with its fast-moving plot, plenty of mystery, action and danger as well as a touch of romance. Plot twists abound with surprises around every corner. A fairly strong thread of faith was also included which added depth to the primary characters relationship.
In my opinion, one can never go wrong when choosing a novel by Irene Hannon. Dark Ambitions certainly lived up to my expectations!
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Dark Ambitions by Irene Hannon is book 3 in the Code of Honor series, but it reads well as a stand-alone. I have not read the first two stories, but I am definitely adding them to my TBR!
This story starts off quickly, but the pace slows down a bit for the middle part of the story before it ramps up again at the end. I thought I had quickly figured out who the villain was – several times! I ended up being correct while totally wrong at the same time!
I liked both Rick and Heather and I thought their chemistry was good, but I would’ve have liked to have seen more development in their relationship throughout the story instead of just an immediate attraction. I was really glad that Ms. Hannon added the epilogue because without it, I feel their story would have been lacking.
Overall, this is a good solid read and I’m looking forward to reading the first two stories soon!
I received a complementary copy of this book from Revell publishing.
Dark Ambitions is the third book from Irene Hannon’s series, Code of Honor. I have enjoyed this series and I believe this installment is my favorite to date. It is full of mystery, suspense, action and danger. There are quite a bit of twists and turns I did not see coming. I could not have predicted what was going to happen next.
I am giving Dark Ambitions five stars and recommend it for readers who enjoy to read romantic suspense.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Although I keep thinking that it will be hard to top each of the books in this series, this one is even better than the last! Rick is a solid guy with great character and treats Heather in a respectful manner as their friendship and romance develops. I liked the other secondary characters as well and the camaraderie that they share. There was great suspense with twits and turns that I did not see coming, which made the plot flow well and made the book hard to put down! I do not think you have to read this series in order, but doing so will allow you to enjoy even more great suspense! I highly recommend this book (and this series) to those who enjoy Christian suspense!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is, hands down, my favorite series of Hannon’s! Rick, after years running a camp for foster children, is thrust into his past when he believes he receives a disturbing visit from an ex-army friend. He hires Heather (of the beloved Phoenix, Inc.) to help him find his friend and make sure he’s ok. It doesn’t take long to track him down, but that just leads to more questions! Full of twists that will keep you guessing until the end, Rick and Heather uncover more and more crime the farther they go on the path to finding the killer.
Hannon is so skilled at getting you in the mind of the “bad guy”. Each new revelation will have you changing your mind on who you think is behind it all!
Hannon is a master of romance, and never lets me down (even though I much prefer the suspense). She creates powerful connection, and just the right about of sizzle, with just a few well-placed words. I always appreciate her unique balance of romance and suspense.
This is not your cookie cutter story, and you will love seeing all of your old Phoenix favorites as they tackle this new case. Another A+ from me! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good suspense read.
I was given an early copy of this manuscript through NetGalley for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
“Dark Ambitions” is a fast paced drama full of political ambitions, secrets, murder and intrigue. Heather and her PI team are hired by Rick to figure out what happened to an old army buddy of his when he goes missing after leaving behind clues for them.
I liked how the team worked together to agree on strategies moving forward with the case, especially as it got more complicated. There were lots of twist and turns and multiple “bad guys” in the story which kept me on the edge of my seat.
Rick was a great character-honest, hardworking, and worked great with Heather and her team. I liked the clean romance between Rick and Heather, while still keeping it professional as they worked the case.
Highly recommend this book and series! I loved it and read it from cover to cover without putting it down!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
This is a fantastic finale to Irene’s latest suspense trilogy! The characters of Rick and Heather were superb and the story line for this one can’t be beat. I was immediately swept up in the mystery from the beginning of the book and the conclusion to the book was extremely satisfying. There were multiple twists in the story which made it even more intriguing. There are political elements as well that were a perfect addition to the story. Irene writes some of the BEST Christian suspense out there and this is another great one. Highly recommend!
