Dark Alpha’s Redemption: A Reaper Novel (ebook) by Donna Grant…Why can I give this only 5 stars? Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book. Bradach(Reaper with a deep hate for all the dark) Mauve (how dark is she?) Their story is full of angst, violence, deceit, some laughs, some tears, mystery, UBITCH and steam..all continuing this wonderful story to their HEA… I can’t wait for more.
Bradach is one of Death’s Reapers. When Death says it’s your time, he collects your soul. He is sent to find one of their friends that was taken by the Queen of Darkness. He goes to Maeve and asks for her help. Maeve is Dark and doesn’t know what Bradach is. Maeve knows some of the Queens hiding places and takes Bradach to them. But when the Queen finds out, she sends Trackers to kill her. Can they find his friend and trust each other?
Good story with action. Not really long with one sex scene. Cliffhanger.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Ms. Grant has done it again, another hit with the Reapers. This is Bradach and Maeve’s story. I found Maeve to be witty and cunning and totally a bad-ass..This was a rather short read but filled with action packed scenes and hot sex. I truly enjoyed this one and all the past characters mentioned made for a great read. Looking forward to the next one!
*****I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley*****
I was terribly confused for the first one-third of this book — and it was my fault entirely. I did not observe the subtitle, which clearly states that Dark Alpha’s Redemption is book number eight in The Reaper Novels by Donna Grant. I recommend reading books one through seven, because the author relies on readers’ prior knowledge of characters, places, and relationships.
Even though I was a novice among Reaper enthusiasts, I gleaned enough information from this book to be able to enjoy the action and suspense, and even some romance.
Death and her mate, the Reaper general, are major characters. Also important is Usaeil, a strong enemy of the Fae, at war with the Reapers.
Bradach, hater of all Dark Fae, is forced to pair up with Maeve, a Dark Fae with a reputation. Together they strive to find Usaeil and, against overwhelming odds, rescur Xaneth, who is Usaeil’s prisoner.
The almost Romeo-and-Juliet relationship of Bradach and Maeve is the centerpiece of much of the story, but author Donna Grant has also created enthralling worlds, cultures, characters and situations that will keep readers turning pages late into the night.
I gave this novel four out of five stars, and I recommend it to sci-fi/fantasy fans — with advice that you check out the earlier volumes before jumping into book number eight. It would’ve been a lot more fun for me as a reader if I had followed that advice.
The Reaper saga continues with the other hidden group of Reapers. Intrigue in the court of both light and dark fae…and despite all this, another Reaper finds love. Lot of action and romance…only a small dose of steam. After the last book, this was not as interesting but still a page turner in the series.
Another great story from the series. I loved it. Maeve and Bradach story is great to read. Dark and Light fall in love. It hard especially for Bradach but he still wants to protect their love. Maeve is great, I love a strong independent woman and she is that and more, she is also kind and knows the difference between right and wrong. And that she hurt U-b…. I f… loved it. A lot of things was discovered and the end will be epic. Great enjoyable read!
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
Action packed, emotionally thrilling, sexy and exciting adventure filled with danger, witty banter, intriguing charters, magic and heart pounding passion…. this Reapers Journey has it all! Really enjoyed this engaging story and look forward whatever comes next from this entertaining story teller.
When Donna Grant started this series I was like no way can she continue on each time putting us on the edge of our seats but I was wrong. This is book 8 and each time I feel like we are close to getting Usaiel. Bradach, is a man I didn’t see coming with his history but he is perfect for Maeve. They both in a way come from the same way yet fate has something in store for them. We see Bradach in two different ways it is easy to love him. One minute he is Death’s assistant determined to get the job done. Then we see him as a lover for Maeve, just a man being there for his woman in every way. This is more than just Bradach and Maeve, Usaiel is getting more anxious and the torture she does to Xaneth is heartbreaking. All in all these two are like complete in every way it is hard to see how Death can separate them but become allies as well. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
I absolutely love this series, the world building is superb and leaves you thinking about the characters long after the story is over. I love that this series is at its core a romance, but the complicated world building elevates it far beyond that. This installment is Bradach and Maeve’s story, and while the tension has been building for the last several books, it has finally erupted! This book massively builds up to the next book, and I can’t wait! Thank you for a spectacular gem of a story!
**I received a copy of Dark Alpha’s Redemption from St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are mine alone and not solicited in any way**
Dark Alpha’s Redemption by Donna Grant is the eighth book in her Reapers Series and I have to say that having not read any of the previous books I was lost and had a hard time following the story. After you get beyond the first half of the book it does get better however it leaves the story open for the final battle with Usaeil. I give the book a solid 4 star because I really like Donna Grant but I should have read more of the previous books.
Maeve the merciless is one kick butt and take names heroine and even though she relates to being aligned to dark side she came across to me as more half light and half dark Fae. But she’s looking for the same person, Xaneth and hope to rescue him from Usaeil. Can they rescue him from her and once Maeve and Bardach finally fall in love the sparks really fly.
Bardach works for Death and even though he may not agree with his leader Eoghan that Maeve could lead them to finding Xaneth. But first he has to convince her to use her “friendship” to get into Usaeil castle. I agree with a few off the other reviews nothing seems to be resolved other than both Bardach and Maeve falling in love and I felt that it was a cliff hanger leading to a huge battle.
Another great installment in the intricate world of the Reapers, Fae, and Dragon Kings!
Bradach is one of the new and barely heard of reapers. He hates the dark fae but has to work with Maeve of the dark fae because she has information about their warrior Xaneth who is a prisoner of Usaeil. He can’t help being attracted to her even if she is dark. Maeve is a strong heroine who can take care of herself in a fight. She finds Bradach attractive and would like to have someone to be with as a couple. A cast of different characters make this story even more interesting and will make you want to read. If you like paranormal and romance you will like this story.
I had a hard time with this entry to the series. It took me a bit to remember the threads of what was going on in the overall arc, mainly because there were very little clues left by the author! I would definitely say that this is NOT a standalone book because of that alone, but there were other factors that lessened my enjoyment of this book overall.
I really felt that nothing special happened in this story! The overall arc was barely advanced, and the romance was practically non-existent! It was a case of insta-lust that got turned into the basis for a true relationship and it didn’t seem strong enough to hold up over time. I liked Bradach and Maeve though, especially the dichotomy between their fundamental natures. The thing that irked me was that Maeve’s nature really wasn’t that well explained, nor why she had to keep it hidden so.
There’s a lot of unanswered questions in this one, and mainly felt to me like it was phoned in, since no meaningful advancement happened in the overall arc. Perhaps the author did this to build suspense for the next book? I don’t know, but after this installment, I’m not that eager for it either.
Donna Grant’s DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION (Reaper #8) is a thrilling read. In this story, Reaper Bradach enlists the help of Dark Fae Maeve to help discover the location of his fellow Reaper, Xeneth, who had been kidnaped. Despite hating the Dark Fae, Bradach finds himself attracted to Maeve. This paranormal romance is suitable for adult readers.
I really enjoyed DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION. It was a creative and exciting novel. Donna Grant does a great job with both her storyline and character development. Both Bradach and Maeve are not what they seem. They both have secrets. They have incredible chemistry. I appreciated that they both discover things about themselves through the story.
DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION was skillfully written. It has interesting twists and unexpected outcomes. It is a praiseworthy addition to the Reaper series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Dark Alpha’s Redemption was an exciting story. I felt that it was more of a filler book in the series — the calm before the storm (ie, the final battle) book. I didn’t mind that at all.
Dark Alpha’s Redemption focused on Bradach and Maeve’s relationship. It was a romance that I didn’t see coming. If the author had told me, a few books back, that they were going to get together, I would have laughed — not those two. So, yes, I was surprised when I saw that it was Bradach and Maeve.
Maeve and Bradach had some intense sex scenes. I liked that the author chose to build up their sexual attraction. I also loved where they first had sex. It was almost like a vast EFF You to Usaeil. The sex scenes themselves were steaming hot. I was expecting my Kindle to short circuit, that is how hot they are.
I loved that the Dragon Kings were included and they were still searching for Conn. I was waiting for Rhi to show up. I was expecting her to make an appearance. Where was she and what was she doing?
The storyline with Xaneth was heartbreaking. I hope that someone finds him. Because I have a feeling that Usaeil is going to injure or kill him.
I want to know how the Trackers are made!!! I was fascinated by them. The end of the book hinted that the Reapers were going to look into it.
Dark Alpha’s Redemption did have a typical romance HEA. But, before that could happen, I thought that Death’s interrogation of Maeve was perfect. I already can’t wait for the next book!!
DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION is the eighth instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary adult REAPERS paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Reaper Bradach, and Dark Fae business woman Maeve the Merciless’ story line. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spinoff from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but many of the events overlap with the events of the Dark Kings. DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION unites the Dragon Kings in their search
SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone. If you have read Donna’s DARK KINGS series you will recognize the familiarity between the two series as both follow a similar plot and premise including betrayal by one of their own.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Bradach and Maeve) DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION follows Reaper Bradach as he is tasked with locating the only surviving descendant of the Light Fae Queen Usaeil. Missing and presumed imprisoned, Xaneth’s whereabouts are unknown. The Reapers are desperate so they send in Bradach to search for the Fae but Bradach needs help in locating Xaneth and looks to an unlikely friend for help. Enter Maeve, a Dark Fae who may or may not know the last known location of the Light Fae Queen. With the help of the Dark Kings, who themselves are searching for one of their own, Maeve and Bradach go in search for Xaneth only to come face to face with a creature created to destroy them all.
Maeve the Merciless keeps secret her past, a past that has forced our heroine to use glamor whenever she is in the open or public. With the recommendation of Balladyn, the King of the Dark, Bradach employs Maeve in his search for the missing Fae, a search that will push Maeve and Bradach together towards their own happily ever after.
DARK ALPHA’S REDEMPTION is another revealing and intriguing instalment as the author continues to build towards the denouement of several interconnected series including the Dark Kings, the Reapers, Dark Sword and the Dark Warriors. We learn how Bradach came to be a Reaper-the betrayal and heart break; the circumstances surrounding the decision to keep the Light Fae Queen alive, and Usaeil’s spiral out of control as she ascends into a madness for power and control.
In Dark Alpha’s Redemption, the Dragon King’s take a backseat as the story delves into a love story between a reaper and a dark fae. Bradach is a Reaper on a mission to find a missing friend. Using a Dragon King for an introduction, Bradach ventures into Maeve the Merciless’s domain. Maeve stepped up to run her father’s business and created a ruthless reputation to survive when he was murdered. Trust no one has been drilled into her head after countless betrayals but she is instantly intrigued by the strange fae asking for help. Bradach hates the dark fae with good reason but sees something in Maeve that feels like fate. Fighting the good fight and trying to stop the dark fae who masquerades as a light fae queen, Bradach and Maeve win a hard fought HEA. The continuing saga with the Dragon Kings flow smoothly in the background and familiar characters make cameo appearances. Tough as nails, Maeve is memorable heroine that kicks butt in her own right for a enjoyable action-packed romance. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
This is Book 8 in the Reapers series. Bradach is a Reaper who used to be Light Fae. He hates the Dark Fae and he is sent on a mission among them. When he goes to a get together and sees Maeve, he is attracted to her. She’s Dark Fae so he’s not a happy camper. There is so much happening in this story that makes you realize how strong Bradach really is. He overcomes so much from his past that you will be amazed with him. There’s something for everyone in this book and it’s full of action and intrigue so you stay interested in it from the first page until the last page. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
Exciting describes everything happening in this book. We get to see Usaeil, Balladine, Erith, Trackers, Xaneth as well as the new group of Reapers.
There is so much action that I couldn’t put it down. Usaeil’s actions are coming out. The Light Fae are discovering little by little exactly who their queen really is.
Spoiler…
Bradach is the Reaper we get to learn more about as he goes on the mission to find Xaneth. Part of.the mission is to meet Maeve, a dark fae. Since Bradach hates everything about the dark fae, can he accomplish his mission or will his prejudice get in the way?
Bradach is a Reaper who hates rhe Dark Fae. So when he is sent on a mission to find a Dark Fae named Maeve the Merciless, he is decidedly not thrilled. After meeting her, it doesn’t take long for his attitude to start to change. Could Maeve actually be more than a means to an end?
I loved Bradach and Maeve. They both deserved all the love and happiness they could have together.
I love the Reapers series by Donna Grant. The characters are interesting and engaging. The stories are fast-paced, exciting, and keep me flipping pages as fast as I can. Each book moves the reader along to the ultimate showdown (and the revealing of Rhi’s King). I can’t wait for the next book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or remuneration.
