Bradach has never once strayed from his path, his duty as an elite assassin to Death driving him forward. However, Maeve’s intelligence, cunning and determination challenges him in ways that he never imagined. The newest book in the ‘Reaper’ series is an emotionally gripping and stunningly exciting one that has pushing reality to the side and remaining in this fascinating world. As usual, the characters are strong, bold and stand out, grabbing readers’ attention from the get go and the romance between Bradach and Maeve is full of angst, passion, sizzling chemistry and sweet romance. The emotional turmoil throughout the relationship revolves around them having trust each other, let go hatreds from the past and listening to what their hearts have already told them and readers can certainly understand where they are coming from and why they feel the way they do.
The plot is fast paced and full of nail biting suspense and adrenaline pumping excitement as Bradach and Maeve try to discover some Usaeil’s secrets in order to rescue an Xaneth who is the Reaper’s ally and Con, the King of the Dragon Kings. During their search they also discover more about Usaeil’s trackers and they set out to discredit her among her own people to prepare for war, this adds additional thrills and excitement to the story and readers really can’t help but enjoy this stunning, heart pounding addition to the series that challenges a Reaper’s heart.
This is the newest book in the Reaper’s series and you absolutely need to read the books before this one or you will be lost! This one is about Bradach, who is a part of the secret group of Reaper’s and Maeve. Bradach doesn’t trust anything to do with a Dark Fae, no matter what other’s may tell him. But when his mission forces him into the Dark court to attempt to get help from Maeve the Merciless, he may have to revise his thoughts and feelings. Especially as she may hold the key to bringing down their enemy.
I absolutely love Maeve! She comes across as this big, hardcore, Dark Fae when in reality she only does what she must in order to survive. And I love that about her! Bradach has issues with all Dark Fae, and I understand his reasoning but to read about him finally getting that they are not all the same was refreshing. There was an instant attraction between them and they just seemed more realistic. I love how this pushed the bigger story ARC that has been happening not only with them but with the Dragon Kings series as well further along. I love that they are interconnected!! It just makes the bigger story more realistic to me! I can’t wait for the next one! Of course I am also impatiently waiting on Rhi’s story!!! I need to know who her King is!!
First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Holy shiznet!!! Braddich hated the Dark Fae, and one reason is because he once was a Light Fae before he became a Reaper. So being made to work with a Dark Fae, Maeve, & the Dark Fae king, is pushing it. This is more of the story of the Light Fae queen and her goal to rule the world. And this is the story of Braddich & Maeve. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
Ok, Maeve was awesome! I’ve mentioned many times before that I love the heroines who can really kick butt, and Maeve can kick some serious butt. She is going to make a great addition to the upcoming war. I also like the mystery surrounding her.
Bradach is part of the Reaper group that was kept secret for awhile so he’s fairly new. He has a hatred for the Dark Fae, and for him to work with the Dark Fae King and Maeve was not done lightly. I like that his reaction to her was instant despite how he feels about the dark and he didn’t really fight it.
I’m getting anxious to get to the final battle. I’m ready to see how this is all going to come together. There is so many players to this that it seems like one big chess game. I don’t know how to play chess and I don’t know how where this is going next.
With the original Reapers having defeated Bran, it’s time for the New Kids on the Block to take up the reins!
This new team of Reapers are continuing with Erith’s orders and keeping tabs on a certain Ubitch and looking for Xaneth. But Ubitch is keeping off the radar and Bradach finds himself wrapped up in the mystery which is Maeve.
They are opposites that don’t really want to attract but keep finding themselves doing just that. Lots of humour and a great way to bridge the gap between the two Reaper teams. Great writing, superb characterisation and witty banter!
Well it was definitely time for Bradach to get his world turned upside down ! This big bad Reaper starts out convinced that he could never trust a Dark Fae and then meets Maeve or should I say Maeve the Merciless ! From their first meeting the chemistry sizzles but thankfully the romance itself went at a more realistic pace. These books are quite short so can occasionally suffer from instant love and rumpy pumpy so I much preferred this.
This story whilst not exactly moving the overall plot along was entertaining and I loved Usaeil, the evil Queen and her Trackers. Plus we get more about the Dragon Kings which in my mind is always a good thing. I’m still anxiously waiting for Rhi to appear but with Death making an appearance I am somewhat mollified . Theres action, deceit and betrayal but most of all a really well written story.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Contains spoilers: may want to wait to read until after you’ve read the book. Warning!!
I like to discuss/just my thoughts.
Not your average review I guess:
This book is amazing! Lots of new details! Another home run by Donna Grant!
https://escaperealitybyreading.wordpress.com/2019/07/15/dark-alphas-redemption/
Another Reaper story! I love this group of tough warriors and their boss, Death!
I loved Maeve! She was feisty yet wary, and her business savvy served her well in the Fae court. She was surprisingly open with Bradach, exposing more then she normally did, but I liked how it gave a chance to understand her reasoning. It also didn’t hurt that she could take care of herself in a battle, but was honest enough with herself to admit she also wanted someone to lean on at times.
I found Bradach amusing. He starts out with one mindset and in one meeting with Maeve, he flipped a coin and started to question if it was all Dark Fae he struggled with or just certain ones. His internal struggle made sense once I learned his past, and while I was sympathetic, I loved when he challenged himself and turned his thought process around.
Because the Reaper books tend to be shorter then the Dragon King stories, everything usually happens at a fast clip, including the romance. Not that it’s a bad thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think it worked well this time! Maeve and Bradach’s attraction was instant, but felt like a fated moment, instead of a quick flame. And while I normally wish there was longer development, having met a few couples who met and married within a week and lasted 60+ years…so yeah, I can easily believe this couple is in it for the long hall!!
Book 8 in the Reaper series (and I don’t know what number in the Dark series), I really enjoyed Maeve and Bradach’s story! It was action packed with a splendid attraction, and there are peeks about Rhi and Usaeil’s eventual showdown as well as mentions about Dragon King Constantine and a few other players on the board. Grant writes theses stories with just enough back info to be able to jump in at any point and not feel too lost and DAR is no different.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and St. Martin’s. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book that focuses on the new set of Reapers that we learned about in Dark Alpha’s Hunger, book six in the overall series. It’s there that we first learn about Bradach and why we should be interested in him in the first place. It’s only a glimpse, but it does tell us he’s loyal, determined, and fierce when necessary. I’ll be honest though, the newer Reapers are interesting, but I can’t say they drew me in as the first group did…at least not yet.
On his own, Bradach took a lot longer for me to warm up to. Not because he was flawed or bad, just because he was kind of subdued, a whole lot judgy and grudge-holding, and sparse on the details about him and his past that would give us some kind of connection with him. Maeve on the other hand, was fierce, strong-willed, intelligent, vulnerable, caring, complex, and just a strong-as female. Definitely worthy of being a female lead to love from the get-go. She was complex in a way that gave her depth and not ineffective half-assed complications.
One nitpick for me was Bradach’s skills. The reason he was chosen for this particular mission was his incredible attention to detail in the broad scope of the bigger picture and his ability to have a level head. They were used only once when that was the push for getting him to agree to the assignment in the first place. It just wasn’t enough to prove it was a skill instead of a gut feeling in one instance. The same with his level head. I know Maeve and his attraction to her pretty much knocked him ass over tea kettle, but there were rarely, if any, moments of cool heads and minute detail observations.
The relationship itself was pretty good because both characters held something within them that was just what the other needed. There were moments that Maeve got all hurt when she jumped to conclusions and Bradach denied things for far too long for my liking, but once they were on the same page I was a believer. Their passion was banked but present throughout the story. It was also sufficiently intense in the one brief moment they had a chance to give in.
As for the plot, it hinged on the problem that is the Queen of the Light. She is a problem for everyone in their world and finding out exactly why, what she’s up to, and who she’s consorting with was the focus. She’s ultimately a problem for the Dragon Kings, but because she’s a fae she also falls under Death’s purview. I loved seeing things ramp up with the confrontation with Usaeil and who all the players will be and why, but unless you’ve read the other connected series or the other books in this series, it would be difficult to see just why she’s such an issue.
If you’re reading the Dark Kings series, this story will be an incredible gem for seeing Usaeil in all her “glory”, so it may serve as a bit of a spoiler for those who haven’t started that series prior to reading. This is kind of a standalone, but best if read in order of the Reapers series and only a “bonus” for the other connected Dark Kings series.
So while I wasn’t immediately drawn in by the newer set of Reapers, I’m invested now and really want to see how each of them find their mates, what dangers they’ll face and why, and how the overall story ties them all together.
Bradach hates the Dark but when a mission takes him to the doorstep of one of the most powerful, he has to put that aside. Mauve took over her father’s business after he was killed and in turn became one of the well known Dark. I love the twists that were in this book. We also finally got the answer to what Erith would do if one of her Reapers fell for a Fae….. well another one, but this one didn’t fight Bran to prove herself. That alone had me wondering what Erith would say. Mauve was a badass and is probably on of my favorite female characters in this book.
Donna Grant continues to amaze her readers with this magical world of Dragon Kings, Fae, Reapers, and Others.
Bradach is one of the new Reapers who the author had introduced in an earlier book, and Maeve is a very powerful Fae in her own right. Their romance began with secrets between them but the connection they shared was immediate and intense. The plot had loads of action and twists that were delivered at a fast pace that never once slowed down. The author did a brilliant job of engaging my interest along with my emotions. I went through it all right along with my favorite characters. All I can say is …. everyone has seriously underestimated Usaeil. My heart was completely broken but I loved every second of it.
I was captivated by this story, the characters, and the enthralling twists that were revealed in Bradach and Maeve’s book. So freaking much happened in this one ! I am still recovering from the shock and how my heart was simply shattered by the ending. I cried my eyes out over this book, and yet I can’t wait for the next one !
I WAS GIFTED A COMPLIMENTARY NETGALLEY COPY FOR REVIEW.
Maeve is lonely, she has one person in her life she trusts and in the cut throat world of the dark that is more than most. Something is missing in her life. Her business no longer drives her the way it use too. So when the king comes to her with a stronger who needs her for something she jumps at the chance. She finds herself drawn to him. Bradach despises the Dark with a passion which makes it more surprising to him that he would be chosen to buddy up with one, to interact with the king. But he swore to follow death no matter what and he will. He never expected to find the Fae attractive, fascinating, or any of the other things he sees in her. Keeping his secret is the hardest thing he will ever do. Helping him find who he is looking for may just be the death of Maeve. Will she fight alone or will the man she has fallen for stand by her? Action pact and not to be missed this reaper novel leads us right up to the fight with the Dragon Kings and The Queen.
Bradach has been sent to talk to the dark Maeve the Merciless to see what she knows about Usaeil. There is an instant attraction between them and together they locate Usaeil.
I liked Meave. She was tough, ran her own business, and could kick ass. Bradach is still a new character so it was nice to learn more about him and his backstory. Together these two really did some damage to Usail’s reputation.
Usaeil still hasn’t been defeated though and people are missing still. I hope they finally defeat her because I need to know what happens!
Wow ! What a great story filled with tons of intrigue and romance and intense chemistry.I am really enjoying this series so far. This is the kind of story that anything can happen and you never know what’s going to happen next.
What happens when your attracted to a women who is part of the Dark Fae and they are everything you hate and despise and betrayed you in the past ?
“Fall hard and fast and totally in love!”
I loved Maeve the Merciless as I found her cunning ,beautiful, smart, sexy, confident and a women deadly in her own right that is hiding a whopping secret and we loved her from the very beginning.
We also loved Bradach and his sexy sense of humor,we loved seeing him come to life right before our eyes and not just existing and we loved that sexy brogue of his. Bradach is a deadly mystery that Maeve is determined to learn more about and vice versa.
We loved this couple together and found that they both were learning to trust someone else something either one has done in a very long time. This couple had chemistry and sizzled but, they also worked well together and both struggled with what they were feeling for one another as both were hiding some very big secrets but, for them consequences be damned.
Overall we really enjoy this story that grabbed you right from the very beginning and had you intrigued to the very end that left you wanting more.We loved that the story was filled with a ton of mystery and suspense that kept you turning the pages that had fun characters.I love a story that has strong female characters as well and this story had just that.We can’t wait to see what happens next with secrets, discovered and uncovered and exposed things just heated up yet again .Until next time…..
I just can’t not love these books, even when they keep me in complete and utter suspense for ages over a certain relationship, haha. Dark Alpha’s Redemption, just like all the other books in the Reaper’s series picks up right where the previous book leaves off. With that in mind it is really important that you read these books from the first one to the most current, otherwise you would be quite lost. I think it is also important to note right from the get go that it would not hurt at all to start with the Dark Kings series before diving into this one as they are quite interconnected. Honestly, Donna has been building this world since Dark Sword so if you really want to have the full effect, going all the way back to the beginning would not be remiss, though it isn’t wholly necessary.
Usaeil is up to her old tricks, thinking that she runs the world and taking what doesn’t belong to her. This time two friends of the Reapers and Death, and they want them back. The war is finally beginning to really heat up and this book is the perfect set-up for everything to come in the future. For those that have been reading this series from the beginning we all know that there is one person in this world that deserves to take Usaeil on and end her scheming and tyranny, but time is running out and nerves on all sides are beginning to become frayed. One thing that I loved about this book was the repeated question about why the Reapers don’t just take care of Usaeil, because I think for us readers it is the same question we keep asking over and over even though we know the answer. I think Donna having others asking this of the Reapers is a way for her to say ‘I hear you and it’s coming, be patient because I have a plan!’
I also throughly enjoyed the banter and relationship between Bradach and Maeve. Seeing Bradach and Maeve in her own way, have to overcome his prejudices against the Dark/Light and to realize that it’s not all ‘black and white’ was a wonderful aspect of this story and a reminder that there are no easy answers, sometimes one just has to follow their heart! I loved both of these characters, especially Maeve, she was just plan kick butt awesome! I loved how she clearly could take care of herself, wasn’t afraid to do what needed to be done, but also has one of the biggest hearts out of any of the characters in this series in my opinion. She truly just wants what is right for everyone, regardless of where they came from. Bradach was just a great character to for his development, I felt like he was a bit overshadowed by Maeve and the on-going fight, but he still makes an impact for learning to open his mind and heart through his journey.
We still don’t know, or in my opinion, can even guess, how this is all going to end and while I do think we’ve moved a little closer to that conclusion, I don’t know that we are anywhere near the end and that has it’s ups and downs. I love that suspense and I love getting more books each time, but we have been on this journey for a really long time now and while I really don’t want it to end because that would mean we were done, I also just want to know all the answers to my many questions, ha.
If you have been reading the series for a while, you definitely want to get this one in, just to see what’s up with Usaeil, but don’t expect any real answers to what’s coming. We moved one small step forward with this book but we did get a lovely new character out of it and a nice little romance! If you are new to the series, stop! Don’t start here, go back to book one so you get all the details, this is a long journey but I know one that will be worth it in the end!
~ HAPPY READING ~
Love in the Dark & the Light
Usaeil’s threat to the Fae is stronger than ever and the Reapers need all of the allies they can get. However, she’s got two of their own in her clutches. Bradach, who has a healthy dose of hate for all dark fae, is chosen to locate Usaeil in order to rescue Xaneth. He’s got to rely on the knowledge of Maeve the Merciless, a dark fae with a reputation that precedes her, because she’s got information about Usaeil they wouldn’t get otherwise. She’s everything he’s supposed to hate. So why is he so drawn to her?
I’ll be honest, although I wasn’t really lost while reading this story, I do believe that it would have been a better experience if I had read all of the stories that came before it. I’m intrigued by all of the characters who played a part in this book. While Bradach and Maeve were the spotlight couple who stole the show, I couldn’t help but want to know more about Death and her mate, the Reaper general, the dragon kings, etc. Between the continued world building, the history, the battle scenes, the friendships, the intricacies of what the reapers do, and the love found amidst it all, I’m definitely going to be reading the other stories.
I highly recommend this book to fans of the fantastical and lovers of romance. Maybe just read the other ones first
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
Ah! These Reapers. These characters are pretty awesome creation. They’re the ones Death sends out to claim Fae when it’s their time to go. In this edition of the series Bradach (Light Fae) is sent on assignment to work with a Dark Fae (Maeve.) She’s known to be able ruthless and to hold her own in any bloodshed that may come her way.
Maeve doesn’t disappoint. She truly does hold her own against the Queen of Light’s tracker creatures. The one thing she runs from though, is her own heart. I like that she questioned some of the important things but didn’t make a huge deal out of the little ones.
As for Bradach, no matter how hard he tried not to like a Dark Fae he couldn’t help himself but being proud of Maeve’s ability to push through anything. She really impressed him and of course the more time they were together the more he really found himself wanting to be with her.
I can’t wait to see how these two continue to shake things up in the Fae world. They’re not alone as you know what’s about to hit the fan!
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Maeve was a kick ass heroine.
Bradach will do anything to get the job done.
Even work w/ a dark fae, a sexy dark fae.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
We are getting closer to get rid of Uwitch. V and Ulrich do bring of some good points comparing Uwitch and Deidre. I am happy another Reaper has found his true mate. Maeve is a perfect match for Bradach. I do have so many more questions after this book but as that usually happens between this series and Dark Kings.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
This is the next instalment of the Reaper series. You can read i talone but I feel you’d get more enjoyment if you have read the others so you know more what is going on. In this one Bradach sho is a Reaper that hates the Dark Fae finds he must trust Maeve and work with her and the Dark Fae King to fight their enemies. this is a great action and romance. Great world building once I remembered what was happening in the series I couldn’t put it down! Now to wait for the next one!!
