Dark Alpha’s Hunger is the sixth paranormal romance novel in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant’s Reapers series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins who wage war on the Fae at Death’s behest–and the women who change their hearts. There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I’m … says your time is up, I’m coming for you…
Where Death leads, I follow. Nothing will stop me from my duty – not even the darkness that claims me. It’s the music that leads me from the dark, returning me to my brethren and a new foe that has risen. Learning who hunts Thea could be the key to unraveling what we need to know to defeat our enemy. The Half-Fae’s music stirs a passion within me that I’ve never known. For her, I will break my vow of silence. For her…I will risk everything.

Dark Alpha’s Hunger is the sixth book in the Reapers series by Donna Grant. While some may prefer to read it as a stand alone, I would recommend reading the full series in order for maximum enjoyment. There is a lot happening in each of these stories that connect the series together, but they also connect to the Dragon Kings series.
I enjoyed reading about Eoghan, a Reaper who had been lost, and Thea, a halfling who knew nothing about her background. They both had an intriguing backstory and we also learn a big secret about Thea. No spoilers, promise. I look forward to reading the next book as soon as possible. These are addictive.
I read a digital galley obtained from St. Martin’s and NetGalley.
The much anticipated story of Eoghan’s return to the Reapers is finally here and Donna Grant does not disappoint her readers. Not only do we have a sexy, intelligent, heroine that saves the hero, but a beautiful story as the hero & heroine fall in love. Thea and Eoghan are made for each other. Of course, we can’t get Eoghan’s story without the background of why he has been silent since the beginning of the Reaper’s series. Many surprises await the Reaper and Dark World fans as you dive into this story – Erith (Death) has kept many secrets from her Reapers and there are lots of changes for this fearless group of Fae. Usail is up to her evil Light Fae ways – I so believe she wears contacts and dyes her hair!!
I floved this story and enjoyed Eoghan’s and Thea’s journey. This is book 6 in the Dark Alpha series and I would read the first five before I read Dark Alpha’s Hunger – there are so many details you will miss without the back story
She’s done it again! Another terrific Reaper story from this fabulous author. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a story in this series and it’s good to catch up. I also like the bit of crossover with her other series. The Dragon Kings is one of my favorites and still the ultimate dragon series. This one had our sexy hero, Eoghan, released from “Hell” after centuries of torture. His release was prompted by our lovely heroine’s violin playing and her magic music. I love this element of the story. Thea as a Halfling is the dark about her heritage and she’s a wonderful heroine. Her heritage comes into play and embraces her powers to save the day as she comes into her own. The instant connection and chemistry between our would-be lovers is fantastic. They team up to defeat the evil Fae. But who is the culprit…the Dark or the Light? The story takes us on a venerable ride into darkness where the line between good and evil is fussy and things are not as they seem. It’s full of mystery, intrigue, danger and sexy romance. There are a lot of characters to keep up with and several minor plot lines that will continue in future stories. And all those sexy Reapers! Guys and gals. Her inclusion of strong heroic women is one of my favorite elements of this author’s writing. Although this can be read as a stand-alone it’s nice to have the background from the previous books. I love them all! You can’t go wrong with any of these terrific stories. A fabulous fantasy story with terrific characters is the hallmark of this series!
Surprise!! Surprise! I didn’t see this coming. Thea is drawn to the portal stones to play her violin. She returns time after time to play.
Eoghan has been lost to the reapers since the last big battle. He is in a realm of darkness running from a creature. He has no direction until he hears the music. He follows the music. He finds freedom. He finds Thea.
He is drawn to her like she is to the portal stones. He can’t seem to stay away. It is a good thing when she goes missing. Get ready to have your mind blown.
Eoghan has finally found his way back to this realm with the help of the music he had been hearing. Thea has been drawn to the portal stones since she was a little girl. When she sees Eoghan’s hand coming from one she helps pull him from the portal. Death want Eoghan to lead a second set of Reapers that no one knows about. You find out so much in this book, even that gives info and clues about the Dragon Kings, that it is a must read even if you have only read the Dark Kings up to this point.
What a Great way to get the first books in Three of Donna Grant’s series. I Absolutely loved it, it’s a Wonderful idea you get fantastic books for a really great price. They will not disappoint you will love them all. The hardest part will be deciding which series will be first. I recieved a arc copy for free for a honest review. Loved it.
Where fantasy and romance wonderfully mix…
This is the second of the series I’ve read and I just get more invested, the more I read! Thea and Eoghan’s courtship is filled with bravery and trust, which sometimes are hard to find. Not with the Reapers though and definitely not with the women they find at their sides…
Eoghan was rescued from the he** he had been existing in and was instantly taken with his rescuer. Thea was another great character – unique, warm-hearted and completely enthralled with Eoghan as well. Together, they were going to do battle. For Erith, for themselves. So many questions and they were determined to get answers – while falling in love…
This is great story-telling as usual with a story arc that is continues to build the tension… Erith is at the center of this series and I can’t wait for her and Cael’s story!

4.5 stars
Thea’s music is the key to freeing Eoghan from the hell realm he is in. Things have changed on Earth while he is gone though. He also can’t stop thinking about Thea.
I really enjoy this book. Eoghan has always been a mystery since he rarely talks. His history is so heartbreaking I just wanted to give him a hug. Thea is the perfect person for him because she brings out the best in him. She is also great for the new team. Thea’s lineage was surprising and unexpected. I quite enjoyed that twist even though it was quite emotional.
I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next after the epilogue. Death is finally ready to kick some ass and I can’t wait.
Reaper, Eoghan, is trapped in what seems to be another dimension, being chased by a demon. What could save him is the music being played by Thea, a half-fae, extremely gifted with the violin. There is a rock formation that calls to her. She doesn’t know how or why, but when she was finally able to travel there on her own, she made the most of it. She just had no idea what was waiting for her on the other side. Can Eoghan come into the right dimension to help prevent a war, or will he stay trapped in his own version of hell instead?
In typical “me” fashion, I read this series out of order. I did not realize this was a series when I requested the book. I won’t say this could be read as a standalone, but there is enough backstory on other characters which allowed me to follow along with ease. Both Eoghan and Thea have such heartwrenching pasts, and it makes you root for them. Donna Grant has a way of taking a novella and making it feel like a full-length novel. She gives so much information without you feeling overwhelmed. She also made me feel so intrigued by other characters, and I can’t wait to go back and read about them!
“Dark Alpha’s Hunger” is an intense and gripping thrill of a read. I have been waiting to discover Eoghan’s fate ever since he was ripped from the Reapers by Bran and I have to say that his story is one satisfying read. Not only does Eoghan get his story but Thea is a strong and fascinating heroine that is perfect for Eoghan and their first meeting is a spectacular and unique one. The chemistry is electrical and the passion is hot but the romance is full of danger and emotional turmoil that will have to be overcome before they can reach for the HEA and the fast paced, smooth flowing plot is thrilling, full of excitement and suspense that keeps readers turning the pages. The story is further enhanced with secrets being revealed and surprising twists that ensure readers want to know every last detail and of course ensures that they come back for more.
This fascinating world just keeps getting better and while the story was a bit on the short side, Donna Grant fit quite a bit of information, excitement and suspense in and blended it all together seamlessly so that reader get quite the story. I loved “Dark Alpha’s Hunger and definitely can’t wait to read the next book, especially after all the twists and plot reveals that took place in this one.
A Reaper lost is found, and another love finds a Reaper. The battle with evil continues. As usual, a story full of magic, action, fated love and romance…a formula to keep you reading until the end. The Reaper series is a shorter length series compared to others, but doesn’t lack much in detail. There is a slight cliffhanger for the story that will continue, but is enjoyable as-is. Highly recommend reading the other ones in the series, at least the Reaper series.
Voluntary and honest review after receiving ARC (advanced reader copy).
Thea is an orphan who wss lost until she discovered the violin at a young age. It became her escapes; her way of dealing with life and people. And then came the day it lead her to help save a man (being?) from a dark place. She didn’t know who he was…..but secretly wanted to. Eoghan it’s the Fae she saved from the darkness. He wants her but didn’t think he can have her. He’s a Reaper who Death (Erith) has tasked with creating a new (and secret) team to help in the war against Bran. But before they can really go on any missions, Eoghan discovers that Thea has been kidnapped…and he’ll do anything and everything to get her back. Can his team work together to freed Thea? And who kidnapped her and for what reason?
I’m leaving out so much…you just need to read it for yourself.
Wow! I started reading this book and could not stop until I was finished. It held my attention the entire time and I just had to know what would happen next.
I missed reading a few of the Reaper books but I didn’t feel lost on who the characters were.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
Great book. Loved his if followed the dark king timeline and connects. Learning so much about the fae queen and a little more about Rhi and hey dragon king. Can’t wait to finally know who he is. Still have my theory.
This is book 6 in the Reapers series. You can read this as a stand-alone book like I did but it might make a little more sense if you read them in order. This story starts with Thea playing her violin at the ancient stones in Ireland. They start to glow and something starts to come through. She reaches out and grabs a hand. Okay, people. This is beginning to sound like a horror story, doesn’t it? Her life changes in this moment and in a good way so no horror story happening here. The reaper Eoghan appears but she’s not staying here to find out his life story. This was a really good story and so interesting. The background of Thea’s life was fascinating to learn. There’re all kinds of things going on here that keep you interested in the book. You have intrigue, romance and mysteries to solve. I’m going to go back and read the first books in this series now.
Absolutely riveting! Dark Alpha’s Hunger is everything a romance is supposed to be. Donna Grant is a master storyteller who ups her game with each subsequent book. This one is by far my favorite. From the very first page I was utterly enchanted by the story. I couldn’t set the book aside and read well into the night. This one definitely knocked my socks off! I was utterly crushed when it ended!
So happy to be back with the Reapers again. So much is going on in this world between the Reapers and Dragon Kings. This is not a book you can read by itself. As the description doesn’t say who of the Reapers this book is about I am not going to spoil it in my review. I was happy with this book. A lot does happen and there are surprises. War is coming between Death and Bran and I look forward to seeing how Donna does that book. If you have read any of the other Reapers books you will enjoy this one and be happy too.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Just when I thought we were getting closer to the end, we get introduced to a bunch of new characters. I have to admit I have no idea where the author is going next, but more is good.
I’m enjoying this series. It’s unique and has very appealing characters. I also like how this gets intertwined with the Dragon Kings series.
It’s good to see Eoghan. I like him more now that his role has been expanded. I’m curious how much Thea is going to be able to do now that her identity has been revealed, but the one I’m really looking forward too is Erith. I’m guessing her story will be the last one in the series.
I would recommend starting at book 1. There are too many characters to keep up with and an overall storyline that continues in each book. The great thing about this series is that each book is about the size of a larger novella and they sure do pack a punch.
Donna Grant is clearly talented and this one had so much potential, but it still fell flat for me. The story felt rushed and I never quite felt a connection with the characters. To be fair, I haven’t read the whole series, so I did feel like I was missing some things that are mentioned in this one. On the flip-side of that, the blurb does mention that this is part of that series, and maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t see anywhere that mentioned a continuing story. A small disclaimer in the blurb to warn readers of the necessity to read earlier books would go a long way toward avoiding reviews like this one. That said, I did manage to follow the story well enough, but I feel like I would’ve gotten more out of it with more world building and depth. Based on my lack of connection to the story or characters in this sixth book in the series, I am undecided on whether or not I’ll check out the earlier books.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.
Once again we’re in the world of the Reaper’s. These g uys are fascinating. Their job’s to be the Grim Reaper for the Fae. Human’s can’t see them neither can the Fae. So we have Thea – a violinist with amazing talent, and Eoghan a Reaper.
Thea’s music is what saves Eoghan from the pits of Hell but not only that – she’s also getting under his skin. Something he’d vowed he’d never do again!
Oh these two. Well lots of information is uncovered in this book. There’s still a whole lot to come in the Reaper world. I just love the visits from Death. Erith (Death) has some hard decisions to make for herself and her Reapers. There’s things she can see in the future it’s whether or not she wants to change those truths or not.
Eoghan and Thea have a little bit of help in changing those truths. It’s all about to come to a head though. Wow. If you like to read stories about the Fae and some hot love stories entwined. This series is one you should start reading if you haven’t already.
I read books from all three of Donna Grant’s related series and it is always nice to be able to pick up any book from any of them and get the gist of what’s going on. However, I would suggest reading all of them in release order as the intertwining plots are becoming more and more complicated.
Dark Alpha’s Night focuses on Eoghan, one of the original Reapers who has been trapped in another dimension for some time. Thea is a Halfling of unknown heritage whose melody from her violin is able to free Eoghan.
The novel was the perfect length for me, about a four hour read. There was a great balance between the romance arc and the action/suspense of the novel. The introduction of the new Reapers is very exciting and I can’t wait to read more about them, particularly Aisling, the sole female.
There is an intriguing revelation regarding the heroine’s origins which ties in to a major character. I’m sure that Thea will play an interesting role later.
All in all, this was a good addition to the series and entire world that includes the Dragon Kings and the Warriors. I must admit that I was getting a little bored with them, but Dark Alpha’s Hunger breathed new life in to overarching plot.
