Dark Alpha’s Hunger is the sixth paranormal romance novel in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant’s Reapers series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins who wage war on the Fae at Death’s behest–and the women who change their hearts. There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I’m … says your time is up, I’m coming for you…
Where Death leads, I follow. Nothing will stop me from my duty – not even the darkness that claims me. It’s the music that leads me from the dark, returning me to my brethren and a new foe that has risen. Learning who hunts Thea could be the key to unraveling what we need to know to defeat our enemy. The Half-Fae’s music stirs a passion within me that I’ve never known. For her, I will break my vow of silence. For her…I will risk everything.

This was my first Donna Grant book and I can honestly say that I am intrigued. Though it wasn’t the best PN book I’ve ever read, I definitely enjoyed the writing style and the story line. I got sucked in into the characters’ lives, their feelings and fate.
Thea and Eoghan are two quite interesting characters in my opinion. They both lived through hardships and heartbreak that defined them as the people they are when they first meet. Their attraction is immediate and though Eoghan tries to fight it, also inevitable. I did enjoy their story with the slightly suspenseful edge to it and the beautiful and devoted relationship that developed. But to be honest, the ease with which Thea accepted that practically all fairy tales were true was kind of too easy. I would’ve expected a little bit more resistance. Even her best friend accepted all the strange things happening around her with ease. She might’ve protested a little but that was kind of it.
With that being said, I still think that Dark Alpha’s Hunger is a pretty good read. I am definitely intrigued by the series and I am looking forward the next book in the series which hopefully will be about Cael 🙂 In the mean time, I am planning on binge reading the first 5 😉
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh my, mysterious, quiet, and loyal, Eoghan lived up to all my expectations! He was sweet, thoughtful, intelligent, and so full of feels…Ack! I couldn’t help but love him!
Thea had my curiosity peaked from the start. Part human/fae, Thea was smart, quirky, musically gifted, but had a past I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy! She was a great match for Eoghan with her creative temperament, and I loved how the two brought out the better halves of each other.
Eoghan’s romantic timing (rather the lack of) with Thea was frustrating at times, but the end result made up for his delays. I enjoyed their interactions and conversations, yet wish the story focused more on them. Sharing pages with Cael, Death, and one rather unsavory character was great and furthered the overall plot, but I wanted…you know, just more of Eoghan and Thea.
Due to the length of this series, I’m hit and miss when reading the books in order, but I can usually start one and not be too lost. Grant always provides enough background to catch readers up to speed. The Dark Alpha series I’ve read separate from the Dark World and haven’t had any trouble following who’s who. For a deeper understanding of the politics, Dragon Kings, and power struggles, read the books in order for sure. Otherwise, if you’re looking for quick, steamy, action-packed reads, the Dark Alpha series is a good place to pop in without too much trouble!
