There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I am coming for you… My secret is an ancient one. I exist to exact vengeance on the Fae for their wrongs per Death’s orders. When I’m sent as a spy to one of the most treacherous, deceitful places in any realm – the court of the Light Queen – things go … Queen – things go awry. Neve captured my soul with just a look from her seductive gaze. She is who I want, who I crave…who I hunger for. But someone has set out to kill her – and expose me. I’ll destroy any man – human or Fae – who brings harm to her, for she is the light my soul can’t risk losing…in Dark Alpha’s Demand, the next Reapers novel from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.

This is my favorite of the series so far! The intense emotion between Talin and Neve, the camaraderie with the Reapers, the surprises with Death, the pain in the arse Bran, all of plot points was the perfect blend of romance, action, and mystery!
This is my favorite Reaper story so far, but there are so many more to binge on. I am so excited. Talin is at the light court. Listening. Waiting. As he spies on the fae is falling for Neve even though he knows he shouldn’t. Death may have been kind to the half fae, letting them survive but Neve is full fae and from a prominent family.
As Talin watches the light Bran watches him. He puts a plan into motion. He doesn’t care that he uses an innocent to get his way. He is vicious. He is determined. He is cold hearted. The family of Neve is a means to an end and the end he wants is death.
Bran’s power is more than expected. Bran’s coldness is frightening. This story was full tension. There were numerous nail biting moments. The suspense was out of this world. I didn’t see what came to be. I didn’t expect it. But I loved it
Spies and their machinations can lead to distrust, unfavorable outcomes, and learning a lot of what you never wanted to know in the first place. For Neve and Talin, most of these come to pass, to their detriment, but it brings them closer in ways they never dreamed they could have become. It also puts them in a position to reap the full punishment from Death that got the Reapers into the whole situation they’re in in the first place—because Neve is full Fae, unlike the mates of Baylon and Kylan. As their enemy closes in on them yet again, they’ll have to learn more, act quicker, or they’ll lose what little advantage they have. Except the things they learn might not be enough to save them, or their love.
Neve is fierce. I’ll admit I was worried when she was first introduced through Talin’s perspective because she came across as spoiled, vain, and vapid. That opinion was quickly changed when we learned just how involved she is with the Light fae court, Talin, and her mystery watcher. There’s so much more going on than anyone could have guessed and what she goes through in the course of this story is incredibly tragic and yet she finds a way to triumph knowing exactly what she’s getting into. I loved her so hard. Talin came across quite different in this story than he had in the previous stories. I found him to be a good match for Neve but more emotionally chaotic than the others so far. He makes incredibly valid points so I felt him justified, but his character just surprised me a little with how up and down he reacted. The plot is definitely heating up with what happens with Eoghan and yet another attempt from both sides to gain the upper hand. The web is getting more tangled…
Talin has been seeing Neve every time he goes to the Light Court. He hides his feelings because he knows that Death will not approve. Unfortunately Bran realizes his feelings and uses Neve and her family to try and trap and kill the reapers. As with most interactions with Bran things go wrong and people are hurt.
I really liked Talin and Neve’s forbidden love. It was heartbreaking because they both knew it would not end well. Clearly this is a HEA though so we know there is happiness in the end but there was a lot of pain and anguish leading up to it. Overall, this series is tying nicely into the Dark Kings universe and I like that we are starting to see more of a crossover now.
Another Reaper falls in love with forbidden and enemy tries to break them apart. The threat to their leader is slowly revealed but love wins the day until the next danger. Fairly steamy and romantic but characters are perhaps not as fully developed.
