He’s about to find a baby on his doorstep … and his assistant in his bed. Austin Prescott is a lot of things. Ex football player. Sports agent. And as of this morning? Father. Finding a baby on his doorstep should have been a joke but the pink sticky note and baby carrier she came in is deadly serious. What’s an out of his depth bachelor to do? Call his tempting and beyond gorgeous executive … gorgeous executive assistant and beg her to move in.
Quinnlyn Stone agrees to help Austin until he can straighten out his messy life. It’s just another item on her very long To-Do list. It’s absolutely not because she’s attracted to her very single and extremely handsome boss.
Close quarters. A baby. Undeniable chemistry. What could possibly go wrong?
A complete standalone novel!

Another winner from Ms Phillips. This was an easy read and, as always, well written. I liked that Austin and Quinn didn’t just jump into a personal relationship even though there was a lot of chemistry between them. It was understandable why Quinn was reluctant to have a relationship with Austin, especially adding a baby into the mix. The way that she had to take care of so many siblings and cousins would put off anyone to having children in the future. What she didn’t realize was that, as an adult, she would be the one making that decision not someone else. This was a great read to get your mind off of any depressing current events.
In this new series, we’re thrown back into Phillips’ world of the Dare family. There’s absolutely no place I’d rather be! Here we meet Austin Prescott, a former NFL player and bigtime Agent in his “Uncle” Paul Dare’s Dare Nation Sports Agency. Austin’s the whole package ~ brains, brawn and purely alpha. When he hires Quinnlyn “Quinn” Stone as his new administrative assistant, he’s instantly attracted to her, but knows she’s off-limits since Quinn works for him. Then there’s a steamy kiss that happened a few weeks into Quinn’s employment that neither one could forget, however they put it aside for their business relationship.
One night a year later, Austin comes home to find a baby girl on his doorstep with not much more than a “she’s yours” note and one day’s worth of diapers and formula. Austin panics and calls Quinn to come rescue him. Quinn does what she’s always done and gives in (as well as moves in) to help Austin with the baby. From the time Quinn was old enough, she was left in charge of her siblings and her cousins, while her parents, aunts and uncles lived their lives, not giving any thought as to what Quinn’s had to give up. And because of it, Quinn doesn’t see herself ever wanting her own children.
But what’s Quinn to do other than melt over the way Austin bonds with this little girl, after a few really rough days. Of course, the attraction between Austin and Quinn is off the charts and they finally give in to their passion, for at least as long as Quinn is under his roof. Is Quinn going to be able to let Austin and the baby go when his family is able to step in? Is she going to realize that she’s a different person now and maybe opening up her heart to the thought of a family is what she really wants? Is the other shoe going to drop and do they stand the chance to lose the baby after both Austin and Quinn fall in love with her?
This story has everything I love ~ sports, single dad and insane chemistry between the lead characters. I loved meeting this new part of the Dare family and can’t wait to read all of their stories.
Austin Prescott may be a great sports agent as well as an ex-football star, but one thing he never knew he was was a dad! When Austin finds a little baby on his front steps with a note saying baby Jenny is his, what’s the first thing Austin does, call his executive assistant, Quinn Stone for help. Little did Austin know but Quinn is a natural with babies. Ends up she used to watch all her siblings and cousins when she was younger. Panicked, Austin asks Quinn to move in and help him just until his mom gets back from her vacation. Quinn, also panicked, agrees. Both employee and boss are very attracted to each other and decide to continue the living arrangement for Jenny’s sake.
Of course spending a lot of close time together is going to send their sexual chemistry into a frenzy and before you know it there is a lot more going on than just taking care of Jenny. Austin can envision a real future with Quinn but too bad Quinn has stated that she doesn’t want any kids of her own. It will take an adorable baby girl to get Quinn to realize that maybe all of the things she thought she didn’t want because of her past, may just ending up being what she really ends up needing.
I just loved this story! Surprise babies are always so fun and have a way at grabbing at your heart. I just adored Austin and loved the way he stepped up for baby Jenny even when he didn’t know if it was his or not. I also completely understood how Quinn was feeling. I’m glad that they were able to come together to find their happy ending.
Having read the Dare series some years ago, which I might add has been my favourite book series ever, I was excited when Carly Phillips announced that she was writing the new Dare Nations series.
Dare to Resist introduces us to the Prescott family, who have only recently discovered that their “Uncle Paul Dare” is actually their biological father via sperm donation. This in turn leads them to discover a large extended family.
This story focuses on sports agent Austin Prescott.
Young, good looking and happily single, Austin is about to undergo surgery and therefore is needing a competent, hard working assistant that he can rely on while he is out of action.
Quinn Stone really wants this job. She had been “nanny” to her siblings and cousins growing up and wanted to at last do something in her life that she really wanted to do.
Working at Dare Nations was just that, although having a hot boss was a bit tricky as the chemistry between the two was obvious from day one.
Add in an abandoned baby, who Austin apparently fathered, and their lives are turned upside down.
This is a great story to start off what is no doubt going to be another winning series.
I’m blown away by this. It’s a short story and stands alone but it goes along with some previous books from Carly Phillips since it involves previous characters. However, enough background and family connections is given that you don’t feel like you miss anything. Austin and Quinn fight their attraction for over a year before an unexpected event brings them together even more. Their connection is undeniable but they both have to face different truths to what they originally thought they wanted. The story is intense and sweet and sexy and I can’t wait for the next book.
De-café review of Dare to Resist.
Quinnlyn Stone – Executive Assistant to Austin Prescott. She is young and just starting her life. She is career oriented. Goal Focused. She does not see a future for herself as anything other than a work life. As the oldest of a large extended family she was often left to care for the younger children. Giving up her life to help out parents and aunt and uncles.
Austin Prescott- Ex football player turned sports agent. Confirmed Bachelor living his best life. He recently found out the man who thought was his uncle is actually his father.
Jenny- sweet baby girl abandoned on Austin Prescott’s door step with a note claiming she is his.
One of my all time favorite tropes is the surprise/secret baby. When you add a baby into the plot of a love story there are so many chances for unique and funny interactions, especially in this story when the baby was delivered to the door step of a bachelor like Austin.
In true Carly Phillips fashion Dare to Resist turned into a sweet love story. I enjoyed watching Quinn’s evolution and realizations in this book. I also liked seeing a grown man upset when he thinks the baby doesn’t like him. I also enjoyed the evolution of Austin. The realization that he needed to be there for the baby no matter what DNA says was a huge win for me.
I will say I did not overly enjoy how Carly wrote the mother. She just kind of got plopped into the book at the end for the large conflict. I think they could have maybe had some other interactions with her leading up. It felt like maybe she forgot about the mother and just added it real quick. I think this disrupted the flow of the book for me.
Dare to Resist is a quick and romantic read. It is easily digested in one sitting. This was a 4/5 read for me. I truly will read anything that Carly writes. I can not wait to see what the future hold for the other Prescott siblings.
Welcome back, Dares!!!! This is a new nation of Dare’s, Carly Phillips incredible family from the earlier series. And I am so happy to have more Dare’s in the picture.
This begins the stories of the Prescott’s, who are Dare’s from another Dad! (you’ll figure it out). First, we meet Austin. Urgently needing an executive assistant due to a medical crisis, he hires Quinn Stone. As much chemistry as they have at the initial meeting, he doesn’t date employees, so they will be friends only.
Quinn has finally gotten a life for herself. She basically raised her siblings and cousins and managed to get an education. Now she wants to live the life she deserves. She won’t endanger it just because the new boss is hot.
But one little blue-eyed sweetie is going to change everything for both of them.
Loads of family information, lots of steam, and as always, another family I know I’m going to love. Thanks, Carly….
Austin needs an Administrative Assistant, and when Quinn applies for the job, the sizzle between them is palpable. Quinn is smart and witty, and has done her homework. She totally impresses Austin with her knowledge of the company. He hires her on the spot knowing that this is one woman who will be an asset to the company, but he can never have her as long as she works for him. The line between business and pleasure must not be crossed.
This story was so good, I couldn’t put it down! The chemistry is there, lines get crossed, and the story unfolds into a wonderful romance. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Dare Nation Series. Dare to resist is the first book in the Dare Nation Series by Carly Phillips and can be read as a standalone.
One of my first Carly Phillips books was a book from the original Dare series so I was unbelievably excited we are once again returning to the Dare world with a new series. This is an epic read of Austin and Quinnlyn and the ups and downs of their love support. Carly has a gift of grabbing you in the first chapter and taking you on an amazing journey with humor, lust, drama, and love. I can’t recommend Carly’s books enough.
A charming, arrogant, unrepentant ladies man and a surprise baby dropped at his doorstep? Huzzah! Sign me up! It already has the makings of an excellent romance that brings our hero to his knees. Then add in a slow sizzle of mutual attraction with his assistant that neither wants to act on, and I’m already half in love.
The Dare book world is one of the best in romance! With a great big family borne of blood or love or both, there are so many endearing characters to get lost in, and each one is better than the last.
When tough ex-football player Austin has a baby dropped at his doorstep, he immediately calls his competent, efficient assistant Quinn. Austin certainly excels in business, but a helpless baby terrifies him. Although Quinn spent her younger years taking care of many of her cousins, the last thing she signed on for in her professional life is caring for another baby.
I adore Austin and Quinn together, and their story had me glued to every word. I hated to see this one end. With plenty of laughs, scorching chemistry, and a book full of heart, their story is a humorous, touching, amazing read that I highly recommend!
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is the first book in the Dare Nation series about cousin’s to the Florida Dare family. Technically they are Prescott’s but they have just discovered that their father was not their real father and instead it was their moms bestfriend, a gay uncle related to the Dare family.
In this story we meet Austin, who is about to have surgery to donate a Kidney to his newly discovered father and former uncle and he has to hire a new assistant. That’s how he meets and falls into lust with Quinnlyn Stone his new assistant.
The story then picks up a year later and Quinnlyn Stone and Austin have been working together and fighting the lust. Until one night he comes home to a baby crying on his patio. Not knowing a thing about babies he calls her for help and so begins their story.
The thing about Quinnlyn Stone is that she grew up taking care of her brothers, sisters and cousins and so she does not want any kids of her own. And that’s a big part of the story that the author tells as Austin falls in love with the baby and he has to find out if its really his child.
I really enjoyed meeting Austin. Q was a tougher character to like. As she was very serious about not wanting kids, while at the same time opening her heart to Austin and the baby. I actually loved her cousin Amy more than her, because of how she was with the baby and insisting that she never wanted a child EVER.
This was a fun story and a fast and light read with a great twist near the end. If you love the Dare family we get to catch up with Riley, Ian and a few more characters from the original Dare family which was lots of fun.
Dare to Resist is book 1 in The Dare Nation and what a great start to the new series from Ms Phillips. The Dares are one family I can’t get enough off and I was excited to see we were getting a spin of from their series and let me tell you this book was everything I expected and more.
Austin Prescott is at the top of his profession, he was a great football player and now he is a great sports agent but is he ready to be a great dad!!! Well he is about to find out because he just found baby Jenny on his doorstep……
Austin does what any top professional would do and that’s call his executive assistant Quinn Stone to get help. Quinn is used to babies and she comes in and takes over organising the nursery as well as teaching Austin how to care for Jenny , what neither of them expected was for the time spent together left both of them fighting feelings for each other. Will Jenny bring them closer together or will the pressure force them further apart…….
This book ticked all my boxes, we have a swoon worthy ex football player and a strong and confident woman who both want the best for Jenny, this couple are adorable and easy to love and once you add in the rest of this extended family and friends you get the perfect read. This story has the perfect mix of passion, humour with a hint of angst and teal,y can’t wait for book 2. Great start to a new series.
This book was fantastic. I’m a huge fan of the Dare series and this one was awesome and to throw in an adorable baby just made it even better. As I was reading this book and getting introduced to Quinn’s best friend, Evie, I was hoping she would end up with a book. I liked her sass. So glad to know that her book is next
Dare to Resist is the first book in the Dare Nation series from Carly Phillips. The Dare family is absolutely one of my favorite series of characters from Carly Phillips. I was so excited to discover we had more Dares with the Prescott children. Paul Dare, who is Robert Dare’s brother, helped out his best friend and her husband when they couldn’t have children and only recently shared with Austin Prescott and his siblings when he needed a kidney transplant. I loved getting to finally meet Paul Dare, and all the new Prescott-Dares.
Austin Prescott is a former NFL player and sports agent who needs a fantastic assistant to keep him in the know and everything running smoothly while he recovers from kidney transplant surgery. When Quinnlyn Scott applies, he knows she is perfect for the job…even if Austin feels an instant attraction to her. Quinn is smart; super organized, and knows what she wants out of life, and willing to work hard to get it. She also knows what she doesn’t want thanks to her family, and that is children of her own. When Austin arrives home from an evening out to find a baby with a note stating Jenny is his, he knows he needs the help of his organized and amazing assistant Quinn to help him out.
I loved both Austin and Quinn from the very first. They worked amazingly well both at the office and at home as Quinn taught Austin how to care for Jenny. Thanks to Quinn’s family always relying on her to care for her younger siblings and cousins, she is like a baby-whisperer. I loved how she stepped in to help out and how protective she became over anyone other than she or Austin caring for Jenny. The mutual attraction between Austin and Quinn had been there from their very first meeting, and I loved they grew closer to one another and their chemistry only grew stronger with each passing day. I absolutely fell in love with them as a couple. I loved how Austin saw the real Quinn and accepted her exactly as she was, and Quinn was always honest about what she wanted and didn’t want. Both Quinn and Austin are such strong characters, their finding each other and accepting each other made me so happy. Seriously, this book was like catnip to me.
Carly Phillips gave me all the happy feels with this secret baby, office romance. Readers will fall in love with a whole new family of Dares! I can’t wait to read more stories in this series.
Rating: 5 Stars (A+)

DARE TO RESIST is the first instalment in Carly Phillips’ contemporary, adult DARE NATION erotic, romance series focusing on the Prescott/ Dare family-another spin off from the author’s DARE TO LOVE series. This is sports agent Austin Prescott, and PA Quinnlyn Stone’s story line. You do not have to have read the previous series to understand or follow the current timeline but like the original series, there is a back story involving the Dare family, and by extension the Prescott family.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Quinn and Austin) DARE TO RESIST follows the forbidden relationship between thirty four year old, sports agent Austin Prescott, and twenty-eight year old PA Quinnlyn Stone. Austin Prescott was in desperate need of a new PA; with his father / uncle’s upcoming surgery, and Austin donating a much needed kidney, our hero was struggling with his depleting time line. Enter PA Quinnlyn Stone, and the woman with whom Austin will fall in love but all does not go according to plan when an abandoned baby is found on Austin’s doorstep, a baby Austin knew nothing about. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Austin and Quinn, and the potential fall-out as motherhood was never in the cards for our story line heroine.
Quinnlyn Stone never wanted children but ‘working’ alongside Austin as he struggles to raise the daughter he never knew finds Quinn reconsidering her options but in the end, our heroine refuses to give in to her heart and her soul. Austin had no idea that he had fathered a child. Knowing nothing about raising a baby, Austin begs Quinn Stone to move in and help, placing temptation within reach for our story line hero.
The relationship between Quinn and Austin is one of the forbidden. Austin Prescott is Quinnlynn’s boss, and our heroine refuses to jeopardize her position for an affair with our hero but the attraction is palpable; and everyone including family knows that in the end, our couple will end up together. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Ian and Riley Dare (Dare to Love #1), Alex and Madison Dare (Dare to Desire #2) : Austin’s siblings-baseball player Jaxon, doctor Braden, sister Bri, and football star Damon, their mother Christine, and their biological father Paul Dare: as well as Quinn’s best friend and PI Evie Wolfe. Evie and Damon’s story line is next in DARE TO TEMPT.
DARE TO RESIST is a multi-troped story of family, friendships, revelations and love. The premise is emotional and inspiring; the romance is seductive and spicy; the characters are energetic, lively and sassy. DARE TO RESIST is an encouraging and animated look at family, blood or otherwise.
I loved this little prequel, I read it in one sitting because the story kept me entertained, it was one of my favorite tropes!
I do so love me a Carly Phillips romance and this one did not disappoint! Sexy hero and heroine with added great secondary characters that will put a smile on your face…literally…I caught myself smiling while reading!
This is the 1st in a new series and in my opinion, this is a wonderful start. Austin is an ex NFL player and is now a sports agent, and when he finds a little baby on his doorstep, he is clueless, and calls his new assistant Quinn to come to the rescue. This is a well written story which is entertaining, a slow burn romance and with undeniably chemistry which all has me intrigued throughout this engaging page turner. I highly recommend for all.
5 star review Dare To Resist (Dare Nation #1) by Carly Phillips
I was so excited when I learnt that Carly Phillips was commencing a new series and with Dare to Resist she is off to a flying start.
There is something about her style of writing that I love. The Preston siblings sound like an intriguing group and I cannot wait to read more in their series. Dare to Resist ticks all the boxes for me, from Alpha males, to feisty heroines, to family love and support, throw in a surprise baby and I was riveted from the first to the last page.
This is Austin Prescott and Quinnlyn (Quinn) Stone’s story and though not a particularly long read, it was highly entertaining. The chemistry and attraction between Austin and Quinn has simmered for over a year as she works as his assistant and they have done their best to ignore it although it is scorching and intense.
When a surprise baby is left on Austin’s doorstep, he immediately asks his assistant to help. Quinn of course is happy to help and unknown to Austin she has had plenty of experience with babies, having virtually raised her siblings. When he convinces Quinn to move in to help out, the chemistry that has been simmering explodes.
I loved the slow build in their relationship, it was sweet, romantic and steamy. I also loved how all in Austin was with baby Jenny, even though he didn’t know whether she was actually his. Watching Quinn’s growth as she realized that all her pre conceived ideas of not having children needed to be re assessed was heart warming.
Dare To Resist was an emotional, totally hot and altogether great read which I didn’t want to put down.
Carly Phillips can do no wrong…she has done it again let me tell you…she wrote a story about couple trying to push aside their desire and want, in order to be able to work together. But when life throws a curve ball all is turned upside down, both Quinn and Austin are left to learn a thing or two about what they truly want in life.
In true Carly Phillips fashion she had me rooted to my couch, reading this in one sitting. This book was exactly what I needed and wanted. I’m in love with this family already and I can’t wait to see the next Prescott brother take the fall for a unique woman.
