I really enjoyed this story and the characters. There was twist and turns and political maneuvering. I got into the story and struggled to put it down.
I read it, but not a favorite. A down on his luck man and a strong, determined woman make for a good story. It did have some wit. I struggled to finish.
good read
would liked to have known if the couples wed before the deadline & what happened to the sneaky cousin
I enjoy the characters, didn’t really enjoy the book. It was overly long when it could have been wrapped up in a shorter time. Yea, didn’t really like it.
Set in Rome during a period of political turmoil (1820), a ‘little wren’ of an Englishwoman takes on the might of the House of Savoy for the right to be guardian of her brother’s little daughter. Her only hope – hiring a drunken English major to translate for her . . . and to marry her.
Caught my interest from the beginning Nice easy read. I liked how the romance progressed. A nice cute story. Liked the characters.
Some very big holes in story..
It’s basically a really good read. I loved the characters — very down to earth and believable.
Is a very good storyline.
I enjoyed this story very much… it was a very enjoyable read
It was a welcome change of pace to read a period romance that was not set in Great Britain — Italy in this case — and that had more than the usual level of history-setting context. And, the story was charming.
Excellent read!
Widowed and childless, Nora answers her brother’s call to Rome. She hires destitute Englishman Jamie as interpreter to help her get to know her little half-Italian niece Isabella, who will soon be an orphan. Jamie becomes instrumental in aiding Nora to fight for her place in Isabella’s future. Unwittingly, Nora, the money she pays him, and adorable Isabella are a life-line for him, bringing him away from his alcoholic indulgences and despair. There are adversaries in Isabella’s mother’s powerful family, who mean to thwart Nora. Very well told story.
I absolutely adored all of Ms Warfields books! Have seldom read an author whose research is so well done!!! They are all wonderful!
Caroline Warfield’s books are a cut above. Detailed, rich characters and plots that grip a reader. Set in Rome, there’s a different feel to this book, much more danger and many twists and turns. Her entire “Dangerous” series is superb.
This book is well written but not a page turner for me. It is a women in trouble finds man to help. Nora starts out to be strong but along the way she turns sorta of needy. The story takes place mostly in Rome which is a nice change.
Very hard to get into the story. I honestly made it a quarter a way through the book and could not get into it so I put it down.
I liked seeing the post-Napoleonic War from a different perspective. Italy was interesting before it became a nation.
Love inspiration! every couple should have a romantic story. love the heroine
