Susan Hunter delivers a superb, over-the-top mystery novel in this third series featuring Leah Nash. In the opening chapter, a friend of Leah’s from her childhood attends one of Leah’s book signings and is verbally attacked by a mother in the crowd saying that this young lady’s older brother killed her daughter twenty-three years ago. Thus starts Leah’s investigation into a cold case that leads to more questions and answers than she or the townspeople ever thought possible.
There are so many twists and turns in this mystery, so many characters and so much heartache involved, and so many people from the past and in the present involved in the final solving of the crime that it’s a remarkable ending to a very well-written and well-plotted novel. I will definitely be reading more Leah Nash and have to share this quote from a book that Susan Hunter shared in the last chapter. It’s from The Kiterunner: “Forgiveness is the fragrance the flower gives when it is crushed.”
Love Leah Nash!!!!
I have read five books by this author and her lead character. All of them are excellent and entertaining.
Caught my attention from the first sentence. The story had nice plot twists sprinkled throughout it. Can’t recommend it enough! Now I have to buy the rest of the Leah Nash series!
I read on my commute to & from work. So my favorite type of book is one that just holds my interest from page to page. Believe me this story fills that criteria. I hated to see the end of the book come! I believe you will also enjoy the story
When you think you know “who done it”…you are not only in for one surprise but multiple surprises. Nothing is as it seams. Kept me turning the pages for more.
Love books that effect emotion. You can actually feel for the main character.
I thought this was an enjoyable read and would recommend it to others.
A great read. Very touching end.
Good book not terribly complicated character which I like.
DANGEROUS PLACES (Leah Nash Mysteries): Susan Hunter
A small-town newspaper reporter writes a successful book about her sister’s death. When she returns to her home town, at a book reading she receives an impassioned plea from an old friend to investigate a decades-old disappearance of a teenage girl. The friend is the sister of the missing girl’s boyfriend, whose life has been shattered by long-held but never-proven charges that he was guilty of her murder.
The writer’s decision not to intervene is upended when her friend dies in a car crash, and she is told by a witness that a pickup truck forced her off the road.
Secrets unfold character by character, betrayal after betrayal, shock after shock. It seems that everyone in town has been affected by the disappearance, and that everyone is related to someone with a relevant secret. The revelations unfold believably, unwrapping the small town’s intrigues. The final secret requires the writer to reevaluate her life, and tests her ability to forgive.
Read the series all in a row. Can hardly wait for the next one !
Great book! Surprise ending!
Leah is back after a successful book tour. Home in new loft, she seeks out an old friend that had asked her help. Sammy, the friend, hasn’t seen Leah for years, and wants Leah to solve a crime.
Leah is a good reporter but her big flaw is interrupting people and therefore not getting all the facts. Sammy wants her brother Eric proven innocent of murdering Heather, his girlfriend, back in high school. But Leah starts shouting and Sammy drives off, only to be found dead in a car accident.
The case against Eric never went to court, his community decided he was guilty and his family left town. But what did happen to Heather, the young, beautiful girl after a fight with Eric? Leah is curious and feeling guilty and needs to start a new crime book for her publisher.
She is also dating her ex hubby, Nick and still hoping Coop, her best friend and policeman, breaks up with Rebecca. Miguel. who worked with Leah on the newspaper, decides to help her on her new case. And detective Charlie Ross is vested in the missing Heather case.
So the gang is back in book three and this is a nice police procedural with Leah getting a bit more from the witnesses than the police did years ago.
This is a book about the sins of the parents and the havoc it inflicts on the kids… like Leah and Sammy and especially Eric. It was hard to figure out but the plot came together and as in real life, sometimes things just happen, the wrong person in the wrong place.
Some big surprises and scares. Leah does need to grow up and shut up a bit as she endangers not only herself but friends. She isn’t twenty anymore and the author makes too many excuses for her rushing to judgement.
A good read that left me wondering about the duties of parents and their children to protect each other.
Well developed twisting plot and characters. Well written.
I bought two more of the authors books because I enjoyed this one
Well rounded characters and setting. Ongoing relationships along with the solution to the puzzle, draw the reader into reading the series of books.
Enjoyed characters and writing style
Has kept me interested.
Enjoyed the premise & lots of twists.
