A twisty small-town mystery—with a killer ending. Reporter Leah Nash has a plan. She’s rebooting her career with a true-crime book. Until it’s published, she’s trying to keep her head down under the icy glare of her new boss at the Himmel Times Weekly. Then a local surgeon commits suicide–though but his daughter insists it was murder. No one believes her—not the police, the district attorney, or … police, the district attorney, or even her own brother. She asks Leah to investigate.
Hard-headed Leah has a soft spot for under dogs. She agrees to check a few things out. But the farther she follows the leads, the less things add up. Soon she’s at odds with her boss, her best friend, and the Sheriff’s Department. When her prime suspect becomes the next victim, Leah realizes that she’s hunting a cunning killer who has intention of stopping. But then, neither does Leah.

What Readers Are Saying …
“My second read in this series. Very talented mystery writer. It never turns out the way I think it is going. Well done!”
“This book and the series reminds me of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, in that we have a cast of colorful characters and family drama to offset the murder and misery. Throughout the story, there are fun, comedic exchanges, along with heartfelt moments with emotional depth.”
“Susan Hunter’s second book in the Leah Nash series is another page-turner. The characters are well developed and the story flows effortlessly. I thought I figured out whodunnit, but I was wrong. Can’t wait to read the next installment.”

I enjoyed reading it. I hadn’t read one quite like it as to the reporter/investigators.
As I was reading this book I was reminded of drivi ng on a Crooked mountain road.
If I drove to fast I would be in trouble. The switch backs on those roads can mean trouble.

Love this series, love the characters. 🙂
Very good, couldn’t put it down.
Really enjoyable. Twists and turns. Great characters.
Not the ending I thought of.
Love the series
The plot developed in an engaging way. I especially liked how we learned about who the killer was…very well done. A few things that happened were a bit unrealistic but this was easily overlooked. I enjoyed it and had no trouble starting with the second book.
Just as the first book from the same author, Dangerous Habits, I read this one in one night, staying awake till morning just to see who is the killer. I still suffer from that decision, but it was worth it.
The main story is interesting as much as the back-side stories and I really enjoy reading Leah Nash Mysteries Book from Susan Hunter. She, the author, has a peculiar way to write a bunch of interesting side-stories which do and do not collide with the main story, and at the end, you are really not sure which one of those stories will lead you to the real killer.
I like the depth of characters, and enjoyed the story. I’m on the 4th book now, and have enjoyed each one.
Had a lot of fun with this book. If anyone can make up a story to fit the crime, this reporter can. Interesting twists and turns.
Nice modern feel very entertaining. Kept you guessing
I thought this book was excellent and a page-turner. I plan to read all her books!
Haven’t finished reading it, so it’s not a complete review. But, I’m enjoying it immensely.Very likeable characters.
If this isn’t Janet Evanovich, there’s a mind-meld somewhere. The book is fabulous, well-paced, and has unexpected complexity. Just when you think that the answer is obvious, you’re wrong. Great pacing.
Dangerous Mistakes (Leah Nash Mysteries, #2) by Susan Hunter. Kindle edition.
Got this as a free e-book on amazon.com Have not read Book 1, but there is enough background information for this to be a standalone book.
I enjoyed the overall story arc. I like a main character who is strong willed and assertive, but Leah has an attitude that is not very appealing. Nice read if you can put up with an annoying opinionated know it all, who has a total disregard for other people’s feelings and opinions. Despite the fact that she is portrayed as a experienced journalist she throws out wild accusations without any solid evidence, is completely self absorbed and has little pity parties when things do not go her way and/or people are not at her beck and call. She is like a 30 year old toddler throwing tantrums.
Based on the 4+ stars the books in this series rated, I kept on reading hoping that by the end of this book , I would like her a bit better. No, at the end of the book she is still smug and self absorbed. I will not be reading any more books in this series. 3 stars.
I had a hard time getting into this book. I thought about quitting after a few chapters. I am glad I continued reading because it turned out to be a pretty good mystery. It does leave you hanging at the end as to what is going on with her mom. Overall, I gave it 4 stars because I enjoyed the plot once I really got into the book.
Good mystery series with a flawed main character with warmth.
I was excited to start this book but only part way, I was ready to scream…..the reporter, the main character, the star, is just such a royal pain!! For a grown woman to act and react as she does throughout the book is infuriating. Leah Nash thinks her ideas and opinions are the best and totally puts down or ignores advice given by her best friends.
It starts out well with an interesting premise, did Isabel’s dad commit suicide or was he murdered. And Isabel’s brother is an ex addict….let the action begin.
Her instincts lead her to the druggie brother and then to an ex girlfriend and also maybe the dead doctor’s partner. And Leah just jumps head first and insults everyone that disagrees with her. Carol, Leah’s mom, becomes the sound one in the family. Two thirds through the book, Carol is having problems but Leah is too busy to even realize her mom needs her. Leah puts herself in danger several times, lies to cops, quits the paper she writes for…..because she hates her boss. Oh boy
The thing is near the end the real plot comes out and it’s a doozy!!! If they had tied this in much sooner, it would have been a winner…the idea for the plot is great and really interesting….but it was dropped so Leah could play detective in her little town. The editor really should have pushed to keep Leah a little more real, not like a goofy teenager, and brought the real plot back in at the halfway mark. AND, I figured out the killer before the halfway mark…bummer…..not the real reason why until the end of the book. But once you know the killer so early…ugh. This book had promise but it fell apart.
I really like this series so far.
