“Dangerous Duke” by Scarlett Scott is book Three in the League of Dukes Series. This is the story of Griffin, Duke of Strathmore and Violet West. I have read (and Loved!) the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Griffin worked for a agent for the Crown but was wrongly accused of being a traitor then he became under house arrest by the Duke of Arden a fellow member of the government agency. So Griffin is stuck at Arden’s estate which leads him to be in close contact with Violet, the Duke’s sister. Violet is to be married but isn’t to happy to be doing so. When Violet learns of Griffin’s story she starts to feel he is innocent and works to clear his name. Of course Griffin isn’t on board at first but they start to work together finding more than just clearing his name…they find love.
Suspended from his work as an agent for the Crown, Griffin, Duke of Strathmore, is basically under house arrest at the home of the new head of the League Lucien the Duke of Arden & Griffin’s on a desperate race to clear his name by any means.
Lady Violet West sister of Lucien is about to be married to Charles who is probably the most boring man in England & who loves his plants more than her plus his horrid mother is planning on living with them. When the disgraced Duke of Strathmore lands in her lap literally, after tripping over her crochet wool she decides he is the answer to her longing for adventure. Though her brother is convinced of Strathmore’s guilt, Violet is as certain that he’s innocent.
Griffin doesn’t want her interference. Violet won’t take no for an answer. What a partnership it is!
Well written, fast paced, lovely characters, intrigue, mystery & an attraction that is HOT.
I was drawn in from the first page & gripped all the way through. I loved both Griffin & Violet & the way they grew to love each other. I also loved how characters from previous books make appearances. An enthralling captivating read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Whew! (fanning self)… Romantic AND STEAMY!
This is by far, my favorite historical romance this year. From the time that Griffin trips over Violet’s crochet yarn and lands in her lap, you knew that these two were meant to be together. Griffin’s language felt more natural – where in so many historicals, everyone seems so stuffy in their speech and actions, you never feel that with Griffin. What a breath of fresh air!
Perfect amount of romance, danger, intrigue and a couple of people who fell in love back during that trip over the crochet yarn and wouldn’t admit it, this book hits all the right buttons. Highly recommended for the historical romance lovers.
The third book in the League of Dukes. This is a series that I started a couple of nights ago and I just can not put done, once I finish one book I want to read the next one. This is Lady Violet West and Griffin, Duke of Strathmore who is under house arrest by her brother Lucien, Duke of Arden for a crime her did not commit. There is suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, a ball of crochet thread that brings them together. I found myself smiling as I read this book. I want to read the next book when it is out. I read this book through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I love this Series! This book, the story line was so captivating and everything I enjoy about Scarlett Scott’s books!
The gorgeous Duke of Strathmore, Griffin, is being held on suspicion of treason at the Duke of Arden, Lucien’s estate. The bethrothed Lady Violet, Lucien’s sister and their sleepy Aunt Hortense also live there. Violet thinks the Duke, Griffin is a boring person, so she (Lol) decides to trip him. Well, he lands on top of her in an a inappropriate way!
This story was suspenseful, I kept trying to figure out who was the traitor. I love the story line and the characters. The attention to details and the attraction between Lady Violet and the Duke of Strathmore. They each have a traumatic past.
This was a beautiful romance, filled with action and it was also witty, I literally laughed out loud and cried happy tears. It was also romantic and steamy 🙂
With such a beautiful Epilogue, I love Epilogue’s!
In Dangerous Duke, Griffin Lynton, Duke of Strathmore, was in a pickle to say the least! He was not being mistreated while being forced to live under the Duke of Arden’s roof, but he was extremely resentful of his confinement. He was certain that if he did not spearhead the investigation into the claims being brought against him there would be no way possible that he would ever be a free man again. Especially because he was wholly innocent of the crimes that were being attributed to him. It was this desperate caged animal feeling that led him to consider letting Arden’s sister, Lady Violet West, assist him in his endeavors to prove his innocence.
After she proved to be quite tenacious in her insistence that she help him, Griffin had meant to mislead Violet and he was willing to go as far as it took to clear his name. It was never his first intention but Violet had set her mind to his cause and she was very insistent that she be a part of helping him find justice. So, since she was so affable and willing to help him, he brought her into his schemes. What he never expected was to sincerely come to care for Violet. When his trickery was brought out into the open it was going to take a miracle to make things right but Griffin was willing to do whatever was necessary to prove once and for all to Violet what she truly meant to him while hopefully outing the person trying to frame him.
Griffin’s character never came off as a scoundrel to me but he was a man who had suffered and still had demons left to deal with. I felt for Violet’s character because her brother was overbearing and even though he came from a place of love, he was all about keeping his sister in a gilded cage. The interplay between Griffin, Violet, and Arden was enjoyable. I liked that this story included a mystery element but I wish it had a few more unknowns. It was pretty straightforward and figuring out the culprit was easily done. The romance element in Dangerous Duke was a merry little dance with Griffin and Violet both taking the lead at times as they drew ever closer to understanding the truth of what was developing between them. If you like brooding heroes and cheeky women then Dangerous Duke is a story you will thoroughly enjoy!
This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Aurora Publicity. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
1882 “Violet had not intended to trip the Duke of Strathmore. Nor had she meant for him to land in her lap. But as his large body pitched forward into her silken shirts, one hand finding purchase on her bosom, she could not deny it was the most interesting thing that had happened to her since… well forever!” With that opening line I was captured!! Oh yes, Griffin, Duke of Strathmore is definitely dangerous! To the senses, all five of them, yes like never before. Sight (his dark hair, his astounding blue eyes, his lips far to full for a man’s mouth), smell, sound, touch and best of all taste as she could only image what those lips tasted like, but oh, the reality was so much more!!
I was laughing out loud from the first page as Scarlet Scott takes us into the thoughts of Lady Violet, sister to the man who was keeping Griffin under house arrest. An agent of the crown, Griffin was suspected of being the leak in the organization giving out secrets, which of course was ridiculous and Violet decided to help prove his innocence. What? Yes she was bored, set to marry Lord Flowerpot, wait, I meant Charles, Lord Almsley, whose greatest joy in life was horticulture.
What an adventure! There is so much to Griffin underneath that sinfully handsome exterior that I could not wait to find out more.
Every time I start a new book by this author, I am reminded how much her words bring so much joy to my heart. Filled with humor, quirky characters (Aunt Hortense who dressed as if she was from another century, still mourning her husband who had passed when Violet was a girl), suspense, a sizzling attraction that comes off the pages (yes I had to keep the air turned down low) and a wounded hero deep down that needed someone like Violet to bring him to the light.
I highlighted so many passages on my kindle, the entire book was in my notes and I kept going back and rereading some of the best (although that is impossible to define because every word and thought is stellar!)
Scarlett has the magic touch with her amazing words and descriptions that always keep me incapable of movement until I turn the last page. She truly has a gift that reminds me why I love historical romance and only makes me long for her next adventure, which hopefully will be soon!!
An agent for the crown Griffin Lynton, the Duke of Strathmore, finds himself accused of treason, he is innocent of and under house arrest at the Duke of Arden’s residence. The Duke’s sister, Lady Violet West literally catches Griffin in her lap. Up close their house guest is the handsomest man she’s ever scene, and when he kisses her world is turned upside down, her fiancé Charles kisses are just plain boring. Now that she’s met the man accused of treason Violet isn’t as certain of his guilt. Together on a mission to prove his innocence is a great action packed adventure that Violet has been looking. These two fight their feeling, their passions and has Violet wondering does her love or is he using her to gain his freedom? I loved this romance action adventure spy romance and I voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent book.
Scarlett Scott has a new fan. This is the first book I have read by her and I love it. The dual plot and subplot were well balanced throughout the book. Griffin, Duke of Strathmore was fighting for his reputation against an accusation of treason. His nemesis, Lucien, Duke of Arden and the head of Griffin’s special unit for the Home Office, was dead set on his guilt and would see him rot in Newgate. Under house arrest in Lucien’s home, Lucien’s sister, Lady Violet West became the object of his plan to find justice for himself. Little did he know they would fall in love and face many obstacles. These are well developed characters. They are realistic and not over the top or full of too much drama. I really liked them. In each situation they responded as any average common-sense person would. I fell in love with Griffin. He is a unique, facetious and funny person in a dire situation. Violet comes to his rescue to give him the opportunity he needs to prove his innocence. She was taught to be the perfect lady. To be content with a mediocre betrothal arranged by her brother. But when Griffin kissed her, she realized there was another facet of life she never knew about. Passion and desire. None of which she had for her betrothed. I admire Violet. She knew what she wanted and went after it and she wanted Griffin. For example, she wanted to learn to shoot so she could defend herself. Lucien refused. But while on the run with Griffin, he taught her how. In the end, everyone would be glad she did. Violet and Lucien had more in common than they thought and it brought them closer together. The suspense and tension in the story had me glued to each page hurrying to turn the page to keep up with the action. There are several open bedroom scenes but I must tell you that the author has tastefully written them in a way you actually feel the love, passion and desire between Violet and Griffin. Griffin and Violet were equals in the bedroom. They shared their fears, hopes and dreams with each other. Reading how their relationship developed it had a calming effect on me as Griffin understood Violet in ways that surprised even her. Griffin was full of hidden talents. Violet was impressed. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend it.
Mystery and romance collide in one story
Scott does not disappoint. In Book 3, undercover justice league members are fighting for the crown while romantic distractions are underfoot. Smart women balance this series against the men who can’t resist them or accomplish their goals without them.
This mystery places the heroine between her brother, the romantic duke and a boring marriage match. Not everyone is as they seem and the pages will flip faster than you intend. Quick beach read or must finish before bed book, be careful to leave enough time – you won’t want to stop.
Mrs. Scott’s writing never disappoints. She is one of my favorite historical romance authors. I love her quirky characters, the angst, and the characters’ well-thought-out backstories.
Despite over a decade of service to the crown, Griffin is confined to Violet’s household under suspicion of treason. Violet’s brother is determined to take Griffin down and pin him with heinous charges despite doubtful evidence.
Violet believes Griffin and does her best to save him from her brother’s single-minded determination to destroy him. The characters are forced to elope. Griffin only thinks to save himself from the gallows, or does he? Violet wants to escape marriage to a boring plant-obsessed man, or is that all? Griffin and Violet have a lot in common, including a fear of impending mental illness. We also learn of Violet’s brother’s tragic backstory.
What I love about Scott’s writing is that she writes characters you loathe but simultaneously adore because of their relatable qualities. I highly enjoyed this book! I look forward to the plant-lover’s HEA as well!
I really enjoyed this one! Scarlett Scott is a must buy author for me and never disappoints! When our hero Griffin, the Duke of Strathmore, literally falls into the lap of our heroine Lady Violet West its an instant connection on both sides that neither is looking for. She being engaged to another peer of the realm and he basically under house arrest in her brother’s home due to false accusations of treason. In Griffin, Violet finds someone who sparks life into her somewhat boring day to day existence. Griffin also feels a spark but of course tries to write it off as lust. Violet proposes a plan to help Griffin with his quest to clear his name. He agrees to her assistance but more as a chance to get back at her brother. Falling in love is not part of his plan, but we all know what can happen even to the best laid of plans! This was a fun and steamy read that I highly recommend!
I received an advance copy of this book and I am voluntarily submitting a review.
Intriguing hot romance!
Lady Violet is betrothed to someone who cares more about plants than her and she really doesn’t think much of herself. She has been very sheltered because of her Mother’s suicide. Her wedding day to the plant man she doesn’t love is fast approaching, if she doesn’t do something soon her life will not be one she desires.
The Duke of Strathmore is confined in Violet’s household on treason charges, charges he is trying to prove false. He was in prison before while serving the crown, a horrible time for him that he cannot repeat. Currently there is not enough evidence to send him to prison, but he’s also running out of time.
They first meet because he literally falls into her lap due to a crocheting mishap. They band together to help each other out of their issues.
Extremely well written romance that has interesting characters, smoldering steam, and laugh out loud/rip your heart out moments. It drew me into Violet and Griffin’s world for a while and I enjoyed the escape. I am looking forward to Violet’s brother’s story!
A man who can cook. Sign us all up for this guy. I do love the League. Griffin and Violet are written in way that you believe their journey to love. Violet is written as a bit quirky and she endears herself to us as readers. Griffin, what can I say, he is sex on a stick! I love scenes where the main characters are humbling themselves all in the name of love and the one in this story is so good. You will not want to miss it.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
After 15 years of service to the crown, Griffin Lynton, the Duke of Strathmore, finds himself accused of treason he is innocent of and under house arrest. Even more unfortunately for him, his host, the Duke of Arden, happens to have a lovely sister, a distraction Griffin can ill afford.
Lady Violet West is set to marry a many-titled earl, Charles, who by all accounts utterly adores her and unfortunately happens to be about as dull as dirt. When she encounters the Duke of Strathmore in her home, he makes her take note of just what is missing between her and her fiance. While her brother is convinced of Griffin’s guilt, Violet has her doubts. Helping him clear his name could be just the adventure she’s been quietly craving, but for Griffin this could be his chance to have his vengeance against Arden by ruining the man’s only sister.
But soon Griffin finds himself dealing with feelings and emotions he thought long dead, though it may be too late for him to be with Violet by the time he sorts them out.
I loved this one. I found myself taking forever to finish it because I kept going back to reread and make highlights of terribly romantic dialogue. I’m a sucker for the broody tortured heroes and Griffin fit the bill and both he and Violet showed good character development as well. It was great to see Violet learn to be her own person and stand up for herself and what she knew to be right for her.
This was my first read from this author but I’ll be following the rest of this series now and catching up on the previous installments.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
To say this book had me hooked by the first page is an understatement!! This story is about Duke Griffin Strathmore and Lady Violet who are staying in Lady Violet’s brothers house. The Duke is not staying here of his own choice, he is under house arrest being accused as a traitor. Lady Violet is bored and engaged but gets intrigued in the Duke and wants to help him prove his innocents. Griffin is a delightfully wicked, irresistible, dangerous (to my heart) hero. I love how Griffin gives people nick names – Aunt Hortense is Aunt Horrible, Lord Charles Almsley is Flowerpot. Violet is a loving, caring and strong women. This story of them bonding was fun, interesting and a little hot. I am so glad I read this story and I know you will enjoy it. Scarlett Scott is now one of my top Authors.
Crocheting…not knitting 🙂
I ADORED Dangerous Duke!! Once I started, I could not put it down. Our main characters, Griffin (Strathmore) & Violet are adorable, hilarious, but also complex. From start to finish, we see the layers slowly peeling away…and these two characters find not only themselves, but each other as they work to prove Griffin’s innocence in the crimes of which he’s accused.
Violet lived a careful/cautious life of deliberate choices & wanting to please others, caused mostly by some emotional fears. I loved the thoughts & feelings of “Wicked Violet”! With Griffin at her side, Violet’s fears slowly dissipate, but is it enough to overcome the fears caused from the past?
Griffin is also scarred. Though he appears to be carefree & confident (and hilarious!), we see this is a facade. There are so many layers to Griffin. At the core, he lacks confidence in himself though he tries not to show it. He also fears losing his heart to this amazing woman – “He had to remain immovable.” But when both characters are able to let their guards down, can healing begin & love take root? And can they heal each other enough to fully acknowledge that love?
This book had me laughing – the seed pouch, crocheting vs knitting, Griffin’s new favorite color, and oh poor Lord Flowerpot! Now there’s someone who is in desperate need of an awakening & a wicked side!
This book had me crying- such beautiful & sweet moments between these two characters!
And…this book had me fanning myself…WOWZERS! :)))
Yet another fantastic book by Scarlett Scott!! I love reading her books and am never disappointed!
I received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Dangerous Duke is the third book in the wonderful League of Duke series. Each book gets better and better! This is the story for Lady Violet West (sister of the Duke of Arden) and Griffin (the Duke of Strathmore). Griffin is an “honored guest” in the Duke of Arden’s house while he is being investigated for crimes against the Crown. Violet is engaged to the Earl of Almsley, whose only interest is plants. She finds her fiancée a bit boring after Griffin steals a kiss. She is convinced Griffin is innocent of the crimes he is being accused of and decides to help Griffin. The characters provided so much wit that I was laughing through the entire book. There was humor, mystery, action, romance and a HEA. It was such a great book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Griffin, Duke of Strathmore, has been suspended from the Special League due to suspicions he is a traitor – he has worked for the Crown for 15 yrs. & now Lucien, the Duke of Arden, & leader of the Special League has placed him under house arrest at Lark House (Arden’s residence). Griffin has been trying to come up with proof that evidence found in his office was planted but is running short of time before Arden orders him to Newgate prison.
Arden’s sister, Lady Violet West, lives with her brother & has now created a wonderful distraction for Griffin’s prisoner status. He literally was tripped by her crochet thread & landed on top of her in a not too innocent positioning of hands & legs. A kiss sends both of them in to feelings not felt before but Violet is betrothed the most boring Lord in London. Violet wants excitement, she is tired of her brother’s constant watching & protecting of her. She knows what Griffin has been suspected of being & that her brother is sure he is guilty but she knows in her heart he is innocent of the charges.
Griffin finds Violet breathtaking & he wants her more than he has ever wanted anyone but he will not be hurt or lied to again, so love is out of the question. However; Violet has already begun falling for him & insists on helping him prove his innocence.
They agree on forming a partnership that benefits both of them & so their journey begins to find the truth – but will the suspected criminal of a duke & a feisty, loyal lady find more peril than planned & what about their admitting their hearts desires?
I loved this story & Griffin & Violet were such wonderful characters – Scarlett always pulls me in to her books & in to the lives of her characters. I am looking forward to Lucien’s story in the next book in the series! I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
