So, so good!!! Loved every minute and kept me pretty much guessing through the whole book….didn’t want it to end.
Loved this book. Great read.
Outstanding. Simply everything I love in a great romantic suspense. This book grabbed me from the first page and kept me turning pages until I finished. By the end I was actually standing near an outlet because my reader needed charged and I still wouldn’t put it down. I have a new must read author. Holy smokes, A++ and 10 stars.
So the action takes off immediately, I love that. The characters are introduced in such a natural way that there is no having to go back or confusion as to who is who. In fact by the time there is a hint of any crime, several suspects have been established. The plot is really well formulated, the pace of the story is absolutely perfect, and the romance is strong and believable. Just enough of the main characters back stories is provided. Pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed!
It is interesting to read a story that is mixed suspense and romance. The story itself is enjoyable, the plot was nice, characters well built. I’m not going to write about the details because I tend to write spoilers, so I will stop here so there is no way of ruining the pleasure of the other readers
The suspenseful part of the story kept me awake while reading, and the steamy romance part made me turn the pages faster. I was trying to find out who is the killer but I had to guess until the time when the author revealed it to us. I’m looking forward of reading another book written by Dawn Altieri
5 Cranky Stars
This is the best suspenseful romance novel I’ve read in a long time. Jake and Emma are fully fleshed out. I can easily picture them in my head thanks to the writer’s detailed, but not too detailed writing style.
Everything has its place and time in this book. Nothing feels rushed or unfinished. The murder plot. The love story. The danger. The character development all get equal spotlight. The love story doesn’t take away from the murder mystery and vice versa. I was hooked on page 1. None of the characters in the book feel like space fillers. I really enjoyed this one and I will be reading more from Dawn Altieri.
I give this 5 out of 5 stars. Ms. Dawn has a new fan in me.
Wow, this kept me immersed in the story! Loved this romantic suspense novel. It’s romantic and suspenseful!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Dangerous Desires was a great read! I loved how I couldn’t figure out who the killer was until it was revealed. I had my suspicions, but Ms. Altieri kept me guessing, especially with all the red herrings thrown out along the way.
I enjoyed Jake as a hero. He’s the whole package. Handsome, humorous, and of course, drop dead gorgeous. I liked that his past had some things in it that he wasn’t proud of; I don’t enjoy perfect characters, so it was refreshing to read about his doubts.
Ditto with Emma. First off, I love her name. It’s an old-fashioned name that I have always liked. I’m glad to see it on a character. While I prefer tougher female characters than how Emma was portrayed, I enjoyed her growth throughout the novel. She was a layered person who I would like getting to know in the real world.
The action was well-thought out, with lots of suspense. The sex scenes were HOT, and plentiful. And I really like the short chapter set-up; it made it easy to keep reading.
This is the second book of Ms. Altieri’s that I have read, and I truly enjoyed it as much as her first book, Burn. She has become one of my must-read authors. I’m sure you’ll agree once you read Dangerous Desires.
Emma’s finally decided she’s ready to move on from her fiancé’s death three years ago when she’s attacked. Enter Detective Jake Quinn, the detective who worked her fiancé’s case and is on her new case. She didn’t count on the attraction to flare, and when she is in such close proximity to him after he moves her in to protect her, she’s finally starting to see how good her life can be. But Jake’s hiding things from her, he’s told her he can’t give her what she needs, and there’s still the matter of the killer stalking her. Will Emma and Jake be able to make a relationship work, or will the killer have his way and take her away from Jake?
If you like good old fashioned romantic suspense, this is the story for you. It’s fast paced, it’s steamy and the emotional connection between Jake and Emma is as deep and intense as the physical one.
Killer Instincts #1, To me the book was okay, there was nothing really wrong with it but I had a hard time keeping my attention focused on the book. I liked the characters okay and the story was interesting enough, even if it was really predictable. I do enjoy the bodyguard trope and the whole forbidden romance that goes with it but this one missed the mark with me.
Three years ago Emma lost her fiance to a hit and run accident and they never caught the person, now Emma is trying to start over with her best friend nudging her to start dating again. Emma is assaulted outside her apartment luckily her neighbor intervened and scared the guy away. Later that night a woman was murdered who looked like Emma. Detective Jake Quinn was a rookie detective on Emma’s fiancee’s hit and run he’s never stopped thinking about her. He’s lead detective on this most recent murder and when Emma reports the attack Jake doesn’t think it’s a coincidence. Even before he had department approval he starts protecting her. But this killer is escalating he’s sending messages to Emma and calling her and views Jake as a threat. Emma hasn’t felt this way about anybody since her fiance, Jake has awaken a desire in her she forgot she had and now with the threat on her head they both have to fight the desire raging between them or it could risk Jake his career and the case.
Overall, the book had its moments. It’s not one of my favorites but it wasn’t horrible either it was a decent read and I would read more by this author mostly because I don’t judge an author by a single book.
An interesting story with many twists and turns. Emma pops back into Jake’s life as another tragedy is taking. He is determined to not let her slip away but he has a job to do. Emma feels like only bad things have happened in her life and doesn’t know if she can trust her instincts. We follow the trail as the find and eliminate suspects never suspecting who the true criminal is. It is an adventure that will leave on the edge of your seat until the happy ending.
This was a good, solid romantic suspense novel. Emma and Jake are both enjoyable characters, as are many of the half dozen or so peripheral players. The mystery evolves at a reasonable pace, but doesn’t manage to at all keep up with the relationship developing between these two. Even with repeated warnings from themselves and others, they pretty much just proceed full-speed ahead into things, both physical and emotional. It definitely seems to compromise the judgment of both on several key items, not least of which is the investigation itself. There are some false starts and misdirections, along with several twists and turns to the intrigue. The ultimate resolution is not what I expected; definitely an intriguing plot twist! However, while we do get an answer to the puzzle, we do not get a lot of details; and I would have really liked more explanation. The only other negative for me was that both main characters tended to be a bit too self-deprecating, at least within the confines of their own thoughts, to which the reader is often privy. They were starting to sound like broken records at some points. But overall this was a nice romance and a good mystery; one I would certainy recommend, especially for those interested in the genre.
Dawn Altieri is a new-to-me author, but I’m a huge romantic suspense lover, and I’m always on the hunt for fresh meat…I mean new authors that I really like their books! Sometimes, these new-to-me authors are a hit. Aaaaaaand sometimes, unfortunately, they are a miss. I’m happy to report that, for me, Dangerous Desires definitely falls under the “hit” category!
Homicide detective Jake Quinn is obsessed with the one case he’s never been able to close. When Emma Sloane is attacked in broad daylight, and women that look eerily like her keep showing up dead all over the city, their paths cross once again. The question is, will he solve the case in time or will he lose her forever?
NICUnurse’s Rating: While a just a little bit predictable as far as the plot goes, and a bit frustrating with the two main characters seemingly unable to make up their minds and being a bit wishy-washy, I still felt like Dangerous Desires had enough positives to put it in the “hit” category mentioned above. The plot was easy to follow, the backstory wasn’t a huge information dump, and there were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing for the majority of the book. While it may not top my list of most memorable reads, it was still a pleasant read that had me turning the pages to figure out who the murderer was until about the last ¼ of the book. And even then, I was waffling between two characters as to which one was the real culprit As far as I’m concerned, a romantic suspense book is a good one if I don’t figure out who the bad guy is in the first ¼ of the book, and I happily recommend those. And, as far as I’m able to find out, this is only the author’s second book, and I liked it enough to check out her first book, Burn. So putting those two things together, combined with the fact that I’m honestly looking forward to more from this author,
I give Dangerous Desires by Dawn Altieri a solid 4 out of 5 stars!
Emma Sloane is still trying to get her life back after the death of her fiancé three years ago. Justin was killed by a hit and run driver with no arrest made in his death. Emma is attacked outside her home and luckily her neighbor scares the attacker away. When women who look like Emma are murdered, the police believe that she was the original target. Homicide Detective Jake Quinn assisted with the investigation in to Justin’s death and is now in charge of Emma’s case. He has been attracted to Emma since they met and knows that he can’t compromise the investigation and his career by giving in to his feelings for her. The murderer seems to be someone close to Emma, but if so, why would he want her dead? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Jake wants to protect Emma!
Emma Sloane wanted to move on with her life after the death of her fiancé in a hit and run accident that was never solved after three years. Emma’s plan to move on was stopped when she was attacked in front of her apartment building and was the first attack on women that looked like Emma. Detective Jake Quinn had always kept the hit and run in his mind but when Emma reappeared in his life in a new possible serial murder case, he wanted to protect her at all cost.
Dangerous Desires is a romantic suspense with equal romance between Emma and Jake and some gritty suspense finding out who is the murderer.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC of Dangerous Desires from the author, but I am under no obligation to give it a good review. This was my first book by this author, and it was in one of my favorite genres. I found the storyline to be intriguing and action packed, I loved Jake and Emma and the chemisty that the two sparked off of each other. I look forward to reading more books by this author. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romantic suspense.
Three years ago Emma Sloane’s life was turned upside down when she lost her fiance, and it has taken every bit of those three years for her to move passed it. She is just now started to feel comfortable in her own skin again, and has even considered to start dating again. But there is someone in her life who doesn’t want her to move on, they want to settle a score, and they have their sights set on her.
Good thing she has a strong, determined, caring and oh so handsome detective watching out for her… and perfectly equipped to keep her safe!
Within the pages of Dangerous Desires readers will find a suspenseful, steamy, and highly mesmerizing story line certain to keep them on the edge of their seat from start to finish. This first time read had me sitting up and taking notice within minutes, the words grabbed a hold of me and I couldn’t let them go. There was a perfect balance or romance and suspense, and the writing style made it really easy for me to just fall right in and get lost in the pages. I adored the characters too, they had amazing chemistry, and you could tell the author put a lot of time and care into their development, making sure their backgrounds were accurate and believable. If you like steamy romance with a touch of thrilling suspense, then this is the perfect read for you!! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
